Released in April 2023, Drax is part of the Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 wave that is exclusively turned over to MCU figures from the movie and includes a Cosmo Build-a-Figure. The wave is packed in plastic-free packaging, using figure imagery alongside the usual artwork around the standard Marvel Legends box to depict the contents. Drax as a figure is made up of the older legs from the 2017 Guardians 2 Drax with a new upper torso and arms. The head is a neutral look and is taken from the Disney Store box set. Like the other uniformed Guardians from GOTG2, Drax in the main is cast in that base blue of the uniform - a blue that is too light vs what we see on screen. There are then a variety of painted red panels across Drax’s chest, arms and thighs. A black belt with a painted silver clasp sits as an individual piece around the waist, and the final paint details are added to the sculpted logo on Drax’s chest which is picked out in a gold finish. The head sculpt is excellent, and recreates Drax in his more serene moments as he contemplates what is going on. The head is a base blue plastic over which the salmon colouring is added over his embossed facial markings. The eyes appear photo-printed, but there is no other direct facial detail added with the lips left the same tone as the skin and the sculpt of the face left to create its own light and dark shading. Drax has 19 points of articulation with pinned legs but a totally pinless upper body. While he is a bulkier figure in stature, he can be posed in a number of options and the only thing that doesn’t quite work for me in terms of more dynamic action positions is the lack of expression on Drax’s face and for this character in particular I’d have loved to have seen both head options (neutral and screaming) included. Accessories include the twin blades Drax has carried throughout the Guardians trilogy. These are cast in silver and are left unpainted, despite some nice looking scroll work on the handle and blades which would have been brought out a treat by a single wash or more. In this regard, the accessory quality here has taken a backstep vs the release 6 years ago which had a much better finish. When in use the knives fit in either hand, and when not in use they slip into the holsters on Drax’s boots. It is finally good to get a different look for Drax and the figure replicates the uniform pretty well apart from the colour which remains too light. Drax’s head sculpt is good but the figure would have been much improved including the screaming head that is also already in circulation. The weapons would have benefitted from an additional paint application, but work well enough in the hands or the holsters. And overall Drax cuts a pretty impressive figure in both stature and posing opportunities with or without the other Guardians. NECA have announced a new addition to their Ultimate Halloween line with a brand new Michael Myers release from 2022's Halloween Ends. The 7-inch scale figure will include two head options and alternative hands. The accessories will include three knives and a pumpkin. This new Michael Myers release will come in the closed-box collector packaging with an opening front cover. He is due to be released in October, so should be with collectors for Halloween itself. McFarlane previewed their DC Multiverse Megafig's of Justice Buster and Anti-Monitor in early June, and now both figures have opened for pre-orders with an August 2023 date. The Justice Buster is taken from Batman: Endgame while Anti-Monitor is based on Crisis on Infinite Earths. Both figures include the usual display base and collectible card. Released in April 2023, Star-Lord is part of the Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 wave that is exclusively turned over to MCU figures from the movie and includes a Cosmo Build-a-Figure, although Star-Lord is not packed with any parts. The wave is packed in plastic-free packaging, using figure imagery alongside the usual artwork around the standard Marvel Legends box to depict the contents. Considering the new outfit, the figure is actually partially re-used from older Star-Lord figures with the legs and arms from the GOTG2 releases (short jacket version). That leaves the waist, torso, and head as the new additions. This still works aesthetically although it won't be 100% accurate if you compared the figure closely with the onscreen costumes. The body is cast in the base blue, which is too bright compared to the movie and potentially based on earlier concept images and colour schemes. Over the blue, we have painted red piping, black panels on the arms and right shoulder, and a couple of silver buttons on the tunic. The Ravager icon sits on the front of the chest as sculpted detail and is painted bronze. The head is probably the best Chris Pratt likeness to date although the facial hair is still not quite right and looks muddy in places under the sideburns. The head features the now standard photo-real paint printing and sculpted hair which would have benefited from a darker wash. Controversially, Star-Lord did not wear his helmet at all in GOTG3 so that iconic look is not replicated in figure form - but I can tell you the older helmet will fit the neck peg although they are quite tight. As the arms and legs are re-used from the 2017 figure they are pinned, but do provide 21 points of articulation including a small range of movement at the boot cut, double joint knees and elbows, waist swivel, and torso T-joint, and a ball joint neck. Star-Lord is a breeze to pose with plenty of options for display with or without his included blasters. The pair of blasters are new pieces and based on the pair he gives to Groot to hide before they head to face the High Evolutionary. The blasters themselves are nice enough and include a two-tone gunmetal silver finish and clip securely into each hand - with both hands presenting a trigger finger. The problem is the fact that Star-Lord’s standard Quad Blasters used through GOTG3 - are not included. You can borrow these from previous releases, and they do fit in the hands, but there is no holstering option - again a look seen in Vol. 3. The 2023 release of Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 delivers the best Chris Pratt / Star-Lord head to date in the line, but a slightly disappointing execution of the classic comic-inspired blue uniform which is too bright across all of the figures. It is also a shame the blasters are incorrect, but thankfully the older parts are compatible for those who want to pose Star-Lord with his usual blasters. The NECA 7-inch scale figures from the 1990's comedy series Dinosaurs were first previewed a year ago at SDCC 2022. We now have confirmation of their release starting with Ultimate figures of Earl Sinclair and Baby Sinclair coming in October 2023. Earl will include full articulation including his tail. he has two head options, alternative hands, and a number of accessories including a beer car, mug, TV remote, captains hat, and cigar. Baby Sinclair will also feature two heads and alternative hands. There is also a number of toys including George the Hippo as well as accessories like a baseball bat, bowl, spoon, frying pan, and slingshot. Baby Sinclair will also come with a high chair. Unfortunately for overseas collectors, Dinosaurs fall under the Disney license umbrella and like NECA's Gargoyles figures, these will only be available in the US and Canada. Released in April 2023, Adam Warlock is part of the Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 wave that is exclusively turned over to MCU figures from the movie and includes a Cosmo Build-a-Figure. The wave is packed in plastic-free packaging, using figure imagery alongside the usual artwork around the standard Marvel Legends box to depict the contents. Adam is a brand new figure with no obvious re-used parts. He is cast almost entirely in golden plastic with one tone for his head and hands, while a darker and more metallic finish is used for his outfit. The outfit is sculpted with a number of angular lines that work up to a V-shape around his chest. The key lines are picked out in a deep red paint and the only other addition in terms of paint to the costume is a white painted skull that looks to act as a clasp on his cape. In the movie this skull piece was coloured the same gold as the rest of the outfit, this is then a minor inaccuracy and may be due to initial concept art or proofs being used. The body is finished off with the cape in soft plastic that flows down the rear of the figure and stops just above the ankles. The rear of the cape is really nicely detailed with more of the angular lines, but this time with an intricate pattern that is most likely photo-printed. The head sculpt is cast in gold and represents an acceptable likeness to Will Poulter in terms of how he looked on screen but without that expressive sulky pout, he carried for much of the movie. The forehead gem is a sculpted detail and is picked out in a darker colour, with further variation added to the eyebrows and lips and the photo-printed eyes. The head is lacking a little bit of depth and detail with no distinction in colouring from face to hair - although the hair does get a secondary wash to add some depth. Adam is a pinless figure with 18 points of articulation. Arms and legs are fully mobile, with the cape providing some level of restriction for how much posing you can do with the legs. Adam comes with no accessories, and while that is OK considering the movie a second pair of hands to vary from the clenched fists provided would have been appreciated - as maybe would have been an alternative head sculpt with more expression. Adam Warlock is a general release and retails for around £24.99. but there are deals to be had to get him cheaper and he is unlikely to sell out any time soon. As a figure, he ticks the basic boxes for an MCU figure but would have benefitted from some extra paint depth on the head, alternative hands, and maybe a second head to mirror his sulking pout. A new Spawn Gold Label Exclusive is being released as an Entertainment Earth Exclusive. There will be two variants of the Spawn with Throne 'Sketch Edition', available first at San Diego Comic-Con 2023. Hasbro has released the details for two new Star Wars Black Series releases from the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series. The 'Duel's End' Darth Vader was confirmed as a pipeline release at Celebration, and we can now see this as an update of the existing Vader figure which now comes with a smashed helmet with the battle-scarred face of Anakin beneath. Vader's red-bladed lightsaber is included. Joining Vader is a new Clone Commander Appo figure - another pipeline announcement from Star Wars Celebration. This is a re-use of the existing Clone Trooper figure with an updated head and removable helmet. The figure features both DC15 carbine and DC15 blaster rifle accessories. Both Appo and Darth Vader 'Duel's End' are Target exclusives in the US and sold via the Fan Channel elsewhere. Pre-orders open on the 14th of July and the figures are Autumn 2023 releases.
