Mezco have announced a new King Conan One:12 Collective figure planned for release in 2024 between May and July. Based on the Conan the Barbarian series, King Conan features three head options, alternative hands, two removable soft goods cloaks, alternative chest armour, and a selection of weapons including an axe, a sword, and a shield. "You and I are family. Sometimes, family doesn't see eye to eye..." While Vincent D'onofrio's Kingpin has been around since the first Daredevil series on Netflix in 2015, it is his latest Marvel live-action appearance as the key villain in the Disney+ Hawkeye series in 2022 that has provided us with the first Kingpin action figure. It was released in September 2023 in the latest Disney+ Marvel Series wave alongside figures from WandaVision and the latest offering, Secret Invasion. Kingpin is packed in windowless packaging with the usual black backing, images of the figure to the front and reverse, and stylised artwork on the side spine. The final side is turned over to a checklist for the wave’s BAF, the Hydra Stomper, although Kingpin does not come with any parts. Kingpin utilises some parts from the Happy Hogan figure released in 2021. The legs are directly carried over, cast this time in a purple-hued finish with gloss black shoes. The arms are also taken from Hogan, cast in white to match the jacket - which is a new rubberised sleeve that sits over the main torso. This torso is new, or at least tweaked, featuring a black shirt with the top button undone. The neck is cast as part of the torso and the only element of the figure with any paint. The head is new and a pretty impressive likeness to D’Onofrio and in particular, his almost emotionless frustrated look he carried through his time on Daredevil and into the Hawkeye series. Facial print technology brings out the detail of the eyes, mouth, and nose in particular. The head is quite glossy in finish, which would usually frustrate me but this does work for Kingpin in giving him a sweaty look. Kingpin features two sets of hands, a pair with gripping functionality and a second pair in clenched fists. The first pair are designed to hold the included cane accessory which is cast in black with a white top and gold trim around the handle and halfway down the shaft. The hand is not orientated enough to have Kingpin hold the cane in a walking position but rather the grip is more aligned to Kingpin holding and using the cane as a weapon. Articulation is a mix of pinned and pinless. The legs are newer and pinless with dual joints at the knees. The arms are pinned thanks to their origin being a bit older than the legs. These are also double-jointed. The figure has 19 points of articulation in total although the chest joint you can feel under the jacket has virtually no clear movement. The joints all work as they should, and a number of poses are available including some more action-orientated positions for when Kingpin gets his hands dirty. There has been a lot said about the stature of this figure considering Kingpin’s larger-than-life physique, particularly in the comics. If you do look at the shots from Hawkeye, then D’Onofrio is not massively taller than any of his fellow actors standing half a head taller than Fra Free as a comparison which is exactly where Hasbro have positioned the figure. The bulk is probably what is missing, with the broader torso not translating into the figure due to the re-use of the Happy Hogan figure. It does a job and fits into a Hawkeye display or a more Netflix Daredevil-inspired setup with the original Matt Murdock figure and the likes of Punisher and Electra. Considering Kingpin’s role in the Disney+ series going forward, this won't be the last D’Onofrio Kingpin figure and it will be interesting to see if the Hasbro team sticks with the stature they’ve created with this figure or go bigger and broader for the next release with a specific Kingpin sculpt. New York Comic Con 2023 is almost upon us, running from the 12th to the 15th of October. “You've no idea what you have unleashed…” The latest batch of Marvel Legends that are drawn from the various Marvel TV shows on Disney+ includes figures from newer properties like Secret Invasion and Hawkeye, but also goes back to the first Disney+ series of WandaVision from 2021 and a long-awaited figure of Agatha Harkness, Wanda’s nemesis in the show as revealed during the finale. Agatha arrives in windowless packaging with the late Summer 2023 wave not quite in time for the reversal back to windowboxes as promised by Hasbro. The standard packaging is in use with artwork down the side panels and illustrations of the figure posed on the front and laid out in a more neutral stance on the back to show off the contents. Inside the box, all the contents are packed into waxy paper bags, and secured in an inner cardboard tray. The figure is part of the What If? Hydra Stomper BAF wave, and comes with the Steve Rogers head, Hydra Stomper head, and rocket pack. Agatha is sculpted in full witch mode as seen in the WandaVision finale, resplendent in her purple and blue robes. These are cast in the base colours with a blue tone on her dress complete with woven lines and both light and dark blue applications on top with an almost pearlescent finish. The neck of the dress is a webbed pattern with dark blue lines, overlaid with a sculpted & painted pendant and finished with a white and blue collar. The arms of the costume use the exact same sculpted design and paint work and feature long flowing sleeves that are fixed in terms of their position so that does render some arm movement a bit odd looking when the sleeves don’t follow the laws of gravity. Agatha comes with a single pair of hands, brought into a magic casting pose with fingers outstretched on both left and right. These are flesh-toned, but with a black tip to each digit - a result of her use of the Darkhold. The lower part of the dress is executed in the same finish but is a softer plastic over a pair of sculpted legs. While the majority of Agatha is new, the figure does re-use a set of female pinned legs under the skirt. These include heeled feet which makes the figure pretty difficult to stand straight even with the extensive skirt. The feet could easily have been flat-footed as they are not seen at all under the robes. Over the dress is a flowing cape which is an individual item and can be removed by edging it out from under the sculpted hair. This is cast in a translucent deep purple colour and includes flowing sections blowing out a the rear while the two front panels flow down over the shoulders and to the floor. When the cape is removed, Agatha still looks particularly striking. The head sculpt is new and emulates Agatha’s smirk with a strong likeness to Catherine Hahn. The photo-real decor brings out the intense blue eyes with dark rings, the mouth, and the shape of the face as she smiles. The hair is a big flowing piece glued into the head and shaped down and around the shoulders. Cast in a brown finish there is no obvious secondary colour, the piece relies on the depth and crispness of the sculpted hair strands and allows the light to create the definition. Agatha does not come with a single accessory, a disappointing decision considering a Darkhold accessory already exists in the line - released with Multiverse of Madness Wanda - and there are also plenty of magical effect pieces that would have complemented the figure. Articulation count is quite low for a Legends release, just 16 in total with the pinless upper body - but with a single joint neck and visible neck joint under Agatha’s chin. The arms have a range of movement, but the sleeve design does mean certain aesthetics are lost as the arms are posed. The legs are pinned and include double-jointed knees, but this is all rendered useless by the plastic skirt. Agatha is designed very much as an aesthetic figure and shows how gorgeous sculpted plastic robes and clothing can be versus a soft goods option that may support articulation, but often feels flat and lifeless. Agatha has a wonderful shelf presence once posed - the difficulty is getting those feet to support her under the dress. She would have benefitted from some level of accessory, considering other figures in the line include alternative hands and weaponry - but I can also see where the cost has gone on the figure with the clothing paint finish somewhat more expansive than what we would usually see. There are two McFarlane DC Multiverse Gold Label 'DC Classic' releases due for release in late November 2023. Both Midnighter and Waverider are Target exclusives in the US and come with the usual display stand, collectible card and appropriate accessories. "Hey, you! Stop! Hold it! Freeze!" Following their debut in Rogue One, the Shore Troopers made a welcome return in the 2022 Andor series on Disney+ which led to a new variant of the Trooper making its way into the Star Wars Black Series. The Andor Shore Trooper was a 2022 release exclusive to Target in the US and sold via the Fan Channel elsewhere. It is number #03 in the Andor section of the Galaxy Collection and comes in the window packaging with slanted side panel and red-hued artwork and labelling as per the accent colour assigned to the Andor collection. The Shore Trooper has had some cosmetic upgrades since the Rogue One release, but the base figure remains broadly the same physically apart from an update to the belt/skirt section which has been widened slightly, had the pouch size increased, and a two-strap holster added to the left-hand side. The figure is cast in the brown shades of the Shore Trooper armour, with the upper sections the tan sandy colour which is more intense in colour than the original Troopers, and the legs a dark brown finish. Over the top of this goes the key markings in white in a rough-edged stripe across the chest and shoulders, and the red arm section with its central yellow boxes. browns and blacks are used to pick out other details on the belt and midriff and there is a hint of weathering on the chest and legs but nowhere near as extensive as the original figure. The Shore Trooper helmet remains the same as well, cast again in the sand-coloured plastic with a black gloss painted visor, black trim around the helmet face plate and mouth section and a small red decal to the right-hand side. The back of the helmet and back of the figure have lost most of the paint detail we saw on the original release and the various vents and panels are left unpainted. Our Shore Trooper is a jointed body being based on older stock, and while that makes the joints more visible in the legs they do offer the advantage of being double joints at the knees which have extended options for posing. There are 16 points of articulation in total and while the legs benefit from the older parts, you can start to see where the improvements have been made over the last few years. Losing the butterfly shoulder joints reduces arm movement, and the single ball joint head is more restricted in terms of a natural position. All the joints work as intended, and the Shore Trooper is secure and stable once posed. The sole accessory is a new smaller blaster as seen in Andor during their scenes on Niamos and is more reflective of their role on this planet as security personnel rather than all-out soldiers fighting a war as seen during Rogue One. The pistol is limited in detail and is cast in the same tan plastic as the figure's armour with some black painted detail on top of the barrel and again on the clip. The blaster fits in the Trooper’s right trigger finger hand securely but is holstered on the left which is accurate to the onscreen look but feels impractical. The holster too isn't the best design, reminiscence of the straps used on the Rogue One Death Troopers. In this instance, the upper rubbery strap pops out to allow the blaster to fit in the slot and it secures back again over the weapon pretty easily compared to other holsters of a similar design. As a release, the Andor Shore Trooper was an obvious one considering the existence of the figure already within the Black Series line. The decor and belt section are updated sufficiently to match the Andor appearance but overall the figure lacks the weathering of the original release as well as quite a bit of painted detail around the back of the helmet and armour. The weapon is accurate to the Andor scenes but is limited in detailing and decor. As an exclusive, the figure will be tricky to Army Build - but it has been part of the large volume of discounted UK stock at Game stores, so I would think those who wanted a squad of these Troopers have been able to obtain one at a much reduced total cost. McFarlane have revealed a pair of new DC Multiverse Platinum variants via their online random draws through EQL allowing those selected to order and receive the Platinum variant rather than trying to track it down in stores or via online orders where they are randomly inserted into waves.
