"There's more to life than your farm, Owen. He needs to see that. There's a whole galaxy out there.” Following the 2022 release of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+, a number of new Star Wars Black Series figures were unveiled and subsequently released. As the main focus of the show, Obi-Wan was always going to feature heavily in the line, and following on from the general release of Obi-Wan in his Jedi robes we were also given a release of ‘Ben’ Kenobi in his blue work clothes from his work at the Tibidon Station Sandwhale farm on Tatooine. This variant of Obi-Wan was an exclusive release, sold at Target in the US and via Smyths Toys in the UK. It was packed in the standard Galaxy Collection packaging with a blue hue assigned to the Kenobi releases used on the side artwork. The figure is number 06 in the Kenobi series of the Galaxy Collection sitting between the other exclusives of Teeka and the Phase II Purge Trooper. The Tibidon Station figure is the same base figure as the mainline release with the robes on this version cast in blue rather than the off-white of the original. The belt is painted over the top of this blue and quite poorly in parts with areas of the belt still left in blue around the edges. On the Tibidon release, Obi-Wan’s hands are painted with a black 'gloved' section part way around to recreate the fingerless gloves. The costume is finished with brown cast legs with wrapped angles and boots - all identical to the first release. Despite Obi-Wan’s role at Tibidon Station and the harsh Tatooine environment, there are no attempts at any weathering. While the base figure remains identical, the soft goods are changed on this release to a sleeveless cloak that sits around Obi-Wan’s neck and flows down the back of the figure, finishing just above the knees. This is the same softer robe fabric seen on other Jedi figures and it flows well enough considering the scale but still sits quite flat without the folds and creases we would see on the full-size costume. This can be removed if you wish, granting further options for this Obi-Wan on display. The head sculpt is also the same as the first release, a good likeness to this older Obi-Wan and actor Ewan McGregor. The beard and hair are picked out in the appropriate colouring with facial print technology picking out Kenobi’s eyes and details around the nose and mouth. Like quite a few of the most recent Black Series figures, Kenobi does have a glossy finish to the face. While Obi-Wan remains disconnected from The Force, he utilises a small blaster pistol which is included in the set and again is the same as the general release. This fits into the right hand or can be holstered on the belt. For its size, the blaster carries some clear details and is cast in a metallic bronzed finish with a painted grey grip. Obi-Wan also comes with his lightsaber, comprising of the cast hilt with black, silver, and bronze detailing, and the removable blue translucent blade. It can be held in either hand as well as across dual-handed posing and there is also a slung option by way of a small peg on the saber hilt that lines up with a hole on the left of Kenobi’s belt. The final accessory is a brand new backpack which is made of a softer brown plastic with flexible shoulder straps to fit over the figure and into place. The backpack lacks any significant details and has zero paint apps, but it can be opened up by way of an opening flap held in place by two slot-in pegs. This provides the ability for some internal storage - but also has a more tantalising option for the Mythos Obi-Wan look if you moved this over to perhaps the Jedi Legend figure and enhanced the backpack with other contents such as the Gaffi sticks from Tusken Raiders or other paraphernalia. Articulation is pinless throughout and is 17 points in total coming without the butterfly shoulders we have been seeing more regularly on new Black Series releases. The joints are engineered into the sculpt where possible, making the figure more aesthetic than supremely articulated but there are sufficient posing options with the blaster, lightsaber, and more. The joints all work well enough, although the left knee and ankle rocker on my figure are a bit too loose for my liking. Considering the focus of the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series it was inevitable that we would get multiple versions of Kenobi. This second option is aligned with the series and his look in the opening scenes and is executed to a good standard even with the reused parts. The new cloak and the backpack make a big difference for display while the blaster and lightsaber provide further display opportunities. The exclusivity of the figure wasnt a particular issue for UK collectors having it initially available via Smyths in the UK and then sold as part of the large Hasbro stock dump onto retailers like Game. Considering the current low prices, this is one to pick up for fans of Obi-Wan Kenobi and for those with a more creative eye in terms of what may be achieved in the future with a combination of parts and soft goods from this set and the other Kenobi releases. McFarlane have announced another DC Multiverse Gold Label release, a new figure of The Joker as seen in Batman & The Joker: The Deadly Duo series from DC Comics. The Joker will come with two head options and a mutant bat accessory. As an exclusive release, the set also features an art-print backdrop with stand & base and is packed in the closed collector box packaging. The release is exclusive to the McFarlane Store in the US and is a November 2023 release. There is no quantity listed for the release, only using the text 'Authentic Limited Edition' on the front of the box. With no shipping outside of the US and Canada prwsently, we would hope this release will get wider global distribution via the various worldwide distributors including via Bandai here in the UK. The Joker will go to any lengths to get Harley Quinn back after she is abducted by a strange culprit. But who? McFarlane Toys have announced another 'Patina Edition' Gold Label Exclusive from their Spawn line heading to the McFarlane Store. The Cygor Megafig has seen a repaint with the Patina finish and is packed in the closed collector's box. The set also includes the collectible card, base, and certificate of authenticity - with the set limited to 3050 pieces. It looks to be immediately available in the US McFarlane Store - we will have to wait to see if this comes over to the UK and other territories via the international distribution. Super7 have revealed another of their Ultimates Exclusives being sold at New York Comic Con 2023. The Heat Ray Godzilla from the Toho Ultimates series is based on the 1989 Godzilla vs Biollante film. It features a standard head and a heat ray head as well as alternative hands. The figure is being sold at the Super7 booth at NYCC. The highly articulated, 7” scale Toho ULTIMATES! "Hold up, Squad…I'm getting a read on something big headed this way." Fixer is the third Clone Commando from the 2005 Republic Commando video game released in the Star Wars Black Series. Like all the other figures, Fixer is a Gaming Greats release within the wider Galaxy Collection series. He is number 13 in the Gaming Greats series, sitting in between The 13th Battalion Clone Trooper and the Riot Scout Trooper - both from the Jedi games from EA. Fixer uses the standard packaging with a window and has the blue-hued colouration on the artwork and box details is aligned to the Gaming Greats releases. The figure is an exclusive release, sold by Gamestop in the US and tied into Zavvi in the UK. Fixer uses the same Clone Commando body as that of Boss, Sev and Scorch and that originated with the Bad Batch figures of Hunter and Crosshair. This is a pinless body with parts cast, as much as possible, in either the white of the armour or the black of the undersuit and then assembled around the joints to minimise base paintwork. The physique and proportions of this body have never quite sat right vs the bulkier Clone Commando we see in the game and in The Clone Wars animation, with the sleeker look aligned more to the newer Bad Batch animation. Paintwork is applied in green panelled markings but done so as is the case with most Clones to look slightly rough and hand-painted around the edges. Further decor is included to add weathering, with grey markings on the chest and shoulders as well as some scratches on the green to show the white armour beneath. Fixer features an updated helmet vs the other Commandos with an extended section to the left of his head with communications antennae. The helmet, like the body, is cast in white with painted green markings as well as black and silver around the various vents and breathing components. The look is finished with the almost mirrored visor in a metallic blue hue. Like all the Commando’s, Fixer features a backpack. Like the helmet, this has been tweaked specifically for Fixer’s gear with a wider base and an upper rail between two upright antennae. Again, this is cast in white and overlaid with green markings as well as some darker gun metal panels. It attaches to the rear of the figure by a single-shaped peg that slots into a socket on the rear of Fixer’s armour. The fit is secure enough without being overly tight. One weapon is included, the DC-17m Clone Commando Blaster Rifle as also included with Boss. This is a cast black piece with no other decor with a relatively simple sculpt. Like the body, it feels undersized and when you look at shots from the game it should be at least 50% bigger. It fits into the right hand and can be cupped by the left for dual-handed posing. Articulation is all pinless and worked into the sculpt so the overall look of the figure is not thrown by the joints. There are 19 points in total, with further support from a pair of hinged shoulder armour panels that move with the arms so as not to restrict movement. Fixer can kneel as well as being able to adopt upright poses including line-of-sight firing with his weapon raised up to his helmet. With the arrival of Scorch in 2023, our Republic Commando squad is now complete and while there is an argument each of them should be bulkier and the weapons increased in size, this is as good as fans of the game are going to get with the Gaming Greats focusing mainly on repaints and tweaks of existing figures - in this case from The Bad Batch - to realise other characters and troopers from the video game universe. The exclusivity drives up the price with an RRP on these just shy of £29.99. Both Hasbro and Zavvi also appear to have sold through their stocks so anyone seeking this one out now will need to look at import stock or the secondary market where prices are rising. In summary, Fixer is an adequate release without doing anything spectacular. It works well as a standalone figure, but of course, the real benefit is assembled with the rest of Delta Squad for display. "Jabba ruled with fear. I intend to rule with respect.” Boba Fett is one of the most extensively released characters in the Star Wars Black Series, appearing in the very first wave back in 2013. After a five-year gap following 2014’s Prototype Boba Fett release, the Black Series figures then kicked off again in 2019 with an Archive re-release of the original Boba Fett figure and then settled into a whole new era of Fett releases as Boba made his long-awaited return in The Mandalorian and then in his own series, The Book of Boba Fett. 2022 saw a number of Boba Fett releases taken from the Disney+ shows, including a Deluxe release of Fett in his recovered armour from The Mandalorian Season 2. That figure went on to be repainted and updated to the Throne Room Boba Fett in his fully restored armour that we saw assist Mando in the Season 2 finale and then take the Throne Room in Jabba’s palace from Bib Fortuna in the end credits scene moving us into The Book of Boba Fett series. Boba Fett (Throne Room) is a Deluxe release with the box using the same design principles and slanted side but with a wider frontage to accommodate the additional parts. The figure is the 2nd one of the Galaxy Collection Book of Boba Fett series, with the artwork leading on from the Fennec Shand figure released a few months earlier. With a number of different looks available to Hasbro on the back of the Disney+ appearances, the new figure is designed with multiple looks in mind. The Throne Room Boba is identical to the armoured figure from the Tyhon Ruins - but with an updated belt and paint job. The belt and upper legs of both these figures are then shared with the Boba figures in his Tusken robes, and the scarred and aged Temura Morrison head used on all the releases. The Throne Room figure is designed, as per the look on screen, to depict Boba wearing his armour over the Tusken Robes. This is achieved with a torso overlaid with a softer plastic sleeve sculpted and then painted showing the armoured panels, but also the darker robes beneath. The arms similarly are cast in the dark colour of the robes with the armoured shoulders cast in their own yellow plastic and fitted on top. The legs are a dark brown plastic with the joints designed to be disguised by the flow of the fabric and with only a hint of the armour showing via the lower legs with further added mustard yellow armoured panels at the knees. The look is finished with a softer plastic skirt and belt piece with painted buckle detailing. The paintwork is crisp throughout and includes some battle damage around the armour as well as applied decals on the chest and the left shoulder pauldron. Boba’s Jet Pack is packed separately and connects to the body by way of three pins that slot into holes on the back of the figure. The fit is poor and the pack is easily dislodged from the figure with the pegs on the pack not long enough to get through the softer plastic sleeve of the torso to the harder shell beneath. It is cast in green plastic with yellow, red and silver details added in paint. The lower rocket boosters do rotate and can accept some of the blast effect pieces predominantly seen on Marvel Iron-Man figures, but with a version also used in the Black Series for the Imperial Dark Troopers. The main rocket can also detach if you want to display Boba having fired this main weapon. The head is a good likeness to Temura Morrison, and endeavours to replicate the scarring we see him with from his time in the Sarlac Pit. While the sculpt is impressive, as is the initial photo-real decor to bring out the eyes and facial features, this scarring does not work having simply been applied as white paint. This ends up looking like Boba has been painting a wall rather than imitating the scarring we see on screen. We can of course cover this up with the removable Mandalorian helmet. This is cast in green with burgundy painted markings, a black painted visor, darker green panels around the side and the left side orange markings applied as decals considering how neat they are. We also get battle damage and weathering with the dent in place as it should be, and some silver scratches along the face of the helmet. The fit onto the head is secure without being too tight, and the helmet also includes an articulated range finder to give some further posing features when Boba is displayed with his helmet in place. The figure itself features 21 points of articulation, picking up a couple more than we usually see thanks to a boot cut swivel beneath the knee armour. The legs are, as we mentioned, designed to incorporate the articulation into the robes but still retain movement to gully bend the knees and widen the hip position. The upper body, supported by a waist swivel and butterfly joints in the shoulders, can utilise any of the included weapons as well as being posed aiming the wrist rockets, flamethrower or grappling arm - although none of these accessories are included, despite being available from the Return of the Jedi Deluxe Boba release. Despite the figure's Deluxe status, there are just two other accessories outside of the helmet and jetpack. These are Boba’s blaster, and his EE-13 Blaster Rifle. Both of these lack any crisp detail in the sculpt, a pity considering how good the Blaster Rifle in particular was in the ROTJ set. Paintwork is restricted only to a dull brown on the handle with no added paintwork to give a metallic finish on top of the dull grey plastic. These fit into Boba’s right hand where a trigger finger holds them in place. The blaster can also be holstered by way of an open holster on the right hip. The larger Rifle can also be placed into a two-handed pose and a number of firing positions are available for both weapons. There are no particularly significant issues with this Boba Fett release which realises the rearmoured Boba as we find him at the end of The Mandalorian Season 2 heading into The Book of Boba Fett. Sculpt is pretty accurate and well proportioned, paint apps and decals are good, and the articulation works well enough. The issue is that this doesn’t quite give the value for money we’d expect from a Deluxe release. These more expensive Deluxe figures are priced this way due to either size, paint complexity, or sheet volume of accessories and for me, this Boba doesn’t tick any of these boxes. In fact, we got a Tusken Robes boba with more weapons as a standard release. The figure really needed some value-adding accessories, and none of them needed to be new as they could have been transposed over from the Deluxe Return of the Jedi Boba - which did build up the contents of the set with flame effects, extra weapons, and a grappling accessory - and we could have also had the thruster effects from the Dark Trooper added in to fit into a Jet Pack that appears to have been made to accept them or something similar. Fans have voted with their wallets on this release, and it hasn’t sold overly strongly - turning up currently at deep discount retailers some 12 months after its release. Fans of Boba Fett will not be disappointed with the figure, particularly at the currently reduced prices, it just should never have been Deluxe without considerably more parts. One of the few companies showing off new product at New York Comic Con were Tamashii Nations with their new Star Wars Meisho Realization Sohei Obi-Wan Kenobi figure on display, along with some new unpainted samples of Godzilla from Godzilla Minus One. The third wave of McFarlane's Warner Bros. Movie Maniacs 6-inch posed figures have been revealed ahead of a a November 2023 release. The wave features Pennywise from the IT Chapter 2 movie, imited to 10,700 units. We will then get a Shelden Cooper from The Big Bang Theory in his Flash costume, limited to 11,600 units. The wave is rounded out with Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring. Aragorn is limited to 11,750 units, Each figure is packed in a Warner Bros. 100th Anniversary themed box and comes with a collectible card, diorama stand with printed card backdrop, and a secret bonus item per box. The Obi-Wan Kenobi ‘Wandering Jedi’ figure is the first figure from the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series in the Star Wars Black Series Galaxy collection. The Kenobi series figures will use a lighter blue accent colour on the black box and around the side onto the slanted art piece that will connect to other Kenobi figures for a larger montage piece. I would issue a warning at this point to anyone unpacking the Wandering Jedi figure to ensure you collect all the extremely small parts from the packaging and keep them safe. As well as Obi-Wan you have his lightsaber, L0-LA59 droid and two tiny attachments for LOLA - a clear stand piece, and a black arm extension (I very nearly lost these). Obi-Wan boasts a new head sculpt with the older more grizzled look that Ewan McGregor sports in the show after his isolation on Tatooine. With each McGregor figure Hasbro do, the likeness improves and this one is a very good overall depiction of Kenobi improved further with the photo-real printing application particularly the eyes and the edges of the beard which are less severe. The head sculpt also seems to lack the glossy finish we have seen on other figures recently and taking that away also helps the overall aesthetics to a level that is on par with some of the better work in the Marvel Legends line that pioneered the face-print tech for Hasbro. The costume also uses the more recent development of using rubberised sleeves over generic bodies to give more options for future figures. In Obi-Wan’s case the tunic of his robes is executed that way which not only looks good, but also defines the gap between flesh and clothing much better and doesnt rely on painting of those edges which is often slightly out. The lower part of the tunic incorporating the belt is a similar sleeve piece around the waist. Arms and legs are cast in their base colour and the lower legs are then painted to pick out the wrappings around the ankles and the lighter brown boots. Despite his time in the Tatooine desert, Obi-Wan does feel a bit too clean with zero weathering applied to any part of the body. Like most Jedi before him, Obi-Wan is provided with a soft goods outer robe that fits over his arms and with a hood that should go over his head. Like previous releases the cut of the fabric is OK, but it struggles to behave like it should and therefore doesn’t quite hang right around the body without some work - and the hood is essentially unusable in terms of how high it sits when brought up. The hood even remains an issue when down as it bunches up unnaturally around the shoulders and sticks out further than it should. The robes can be removed and the figure works perfectly well - if not better - without them. Hasbro have certainly pulled out the stops for accessories for our wandering Jedi, starting with the usual two piece lightsaber made up of quite a detailed hilt in terms of sculpt and the paint apps that range from silver, to gunmetal grey and out to a bronze ring around the emitter. The blue translucent blade is as standard, and clips into the hilt with a click and with a connection that looks and feels robust enough to support doing this a few times - it seems we have moved past the blades that snap on first attempt. Obi-Wan is also wielding a blaster (how uncivilised) and this is stowed away already in a holster under his robes so is not immediately visible in the packaging. It is a small compact blaster cast in a dark bronze colour and with a painted darker grip. It fits into Kenobi’s right hand which has the trigger finger configuration and also holds well in the holster thanks to a rubberised strap that comes over the hilt and clips into place. Articulation is fully pinless with the integrated joints that try to blend in with the clothing and body. Obi_wan has 17 points of articulation in total and comes without any restrictions in terms of robes - the one huge benefit of the soft goods application. You can have Obi-Wan posed in a variety of stances from firing a blaster to wielding his lightsaber all with or without the robes. And then we have our LOLA figure, a 6-inch scaled version of Leia’s droid as featured in the series. The droid piece includes fairly impressive casting at such a small size with the droid's casing, eye piece and lower workings all distinguishable and painted with the red and white top section creating the distinctive look. There are a pair of legs plugged into the base of the body and these are partly articulated, as are the two wing pieces on the head. The other two small parts come into play for LOLA with an arm piece with rotary cutter that slots into a tiny hole in the droid's body just under the main eyepiece. You can then pop off the legs (carefully) and use the second clear piece to plug into the body. It doesn't initially appear to work as neither the legs or the stand hold the droid in place - but the clear stand is designed to clip into Obi-Wan’s sleeve thus allowing the droid to hover above his hand. Hasbro does not make any of this clear in the packaging, which is a shame, and it took me a bit of time to figure it out and only thanks to promo images. As a figure to launch a new arm of the Galaxy Collection, Obi-Wan ‘Wandering Jedi’ does very little wrong. Yes it could do with some weathering, but it certainly is not lacking in accessories or articulation and the soft goods are workable and no worse than anything we’ve had before. The figure is going on for some reuse pretty early on with the Tibidon Station and Jabiim Obi-Wan’s also sharing parts and another version also planned depicting the climax of the series and the duel with Anakin/Vader. "Reporting casualties! Tapal has taken out multiple squads. Shoot on sight." The 13th Battalion Clone Troopers' sole appearance in the Star Wars saga was a flashback cut scene in the 2019 video game Jedi: Fallen Order. The troopers were shown under the command of Jedi Jaro Tapal, master of Cal Kestis who was a young padawan during Order 66. This new Clone Batallion, also called the Iron Battalion, allowed Hasbro to bring us a new Black Series figure in 2022 as part of their Gaming Greats line - exclusive to Gamestop in the US and sold via Zavvi in the UK. The figure is part of the Gaming Greats Galaxy collection with the black angled side box and blue accent colours and side artwork. Stock Photos The Trooper uses the newer Clone body which itself has been designed to be fully pinless and also broken down into individual white armoured parts, and black joints under neath recreating the Trooper's ribbed undersuit. These individually cast parts are then assembled giving a much cleaner look to the Trooper while removing the need for painting white over black or black over white as was done with the older Clone figure body. The armour is painted over with the mustard yellow markings of the 13th Battalion, applied to look uniform but also with rough edges and a handful of discrepancies, recreating the fact these were prominently applied by hand by the Clones. The Trooper has the standard Phase II helmet which itself is a hollow piece glued over a sculpted Temura Morrison head (unpainted). The helmet features the same mustard yellow markings as well as gloss black across the visor and further blank - and then grey - edging the top section of the helmet. Black and silver are also used on the breathing apparatus and vents on either side. The newer Clone body features 19 points of pinless articulation, with each joint operating under the fixed armour pieces but not particularly restricted by it. The elbow and knee joints are overlaid with white pads which are glued in place and do look a little odd when the joint is bent as the pad doesn’t move with it. Other highlights include butterfly shoulders, a fairly extensive torso ball joint and a two-part neck joint although most of the neck and head movement is done by the top part of this joint. Our Clone only comes with a single accessory, the smaller DC-15S blaster rifle. This is a black cast piece with reasonable detail but no additional paint applications. The Clone can only hold the blaster in his right hand where the flexi trigger finger can slot into place. The left hand, supported by the arm articulation, can be brought across to grip the barrel for two-handed poses - including a number of dynamic shots with the blaster raised up and aimed for firing. The Clone Trooper body is one of Hasbro’s most utilised elements of the Star Wars Black Series, but with such a wealth of source material from The Clone Wars era and numerous colours and Trooper combos these will always sell to fans who are invested in this Star Wars timeframe. The 13th Battalion Trooper ticks all the boxes we would expect, including good articulation, paintwork on his mustard yellow markings and a weapon - although throwing in a longer DC-15A would have provided options for display. The figure's key issue, as with most of the Clone Troopers to date, is its exclusivity which brings with it an increased base price and restricted availability which perhaps stifles Army Building options for many fans.
