NECA first released figures from the Assassin's Creed video game franchise between 2009 and 2012. Now, some 11 years later, the license is back with NECA and the first release has been confirmed officially as Ezio Auditore from Assassin's Creed; Revelations. The figure was first previewed at New York Toy Fair 2023 and is now confirmed as a February 2024 release. He will include alternative hands, dagger, crossbow, sword, and extending wrist blades. Hiya Toys have revealed the next release in their Monsterverse Exquisite Basic 6-inch line, a release of flameborn Rodan as seen in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Rodan will have an impressive 15.75 inch wingspan with a wired armature used in the wings for posing alongside the other traditional articulation on the rest of the figure. Flameborn Rodan is a Q3 2024 release. The story follows Monarch believes Godzilla and some other Titans to be benevolent and is against killing them. When Alan Jonah and his men steal the ORCA and awaken Monster Zero, they are unable to stop it from being unleashed, after it awakens many of the other dormant Titans around the globe and bends them to his will. Rodan strikes with overwhelming momentum on Mara Island as one of the awakened Titans. Multiple layers of paint capture details of body, with fluorescent coatings applied to wings and head. “She’s entangled our light based powers” Monica Rambeau’s Photon made her Marvel Legends debut in July 2023 as part of a trio of releases from The Marvels. The movie had been pushed back from its original Summer release slot into November, putting the figures onto shelves a good 4 months ahead of the movie. Unlike Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, The Marvels did not receive a full wave of figures - nor did we get an MCU Build-a-Figure like Quatumania. The figures were released within a comic-book-themed wave with four other comic-book-based figures and a 'Totally Awesome' Hulk build-a-figure. The 'Totally Awesome' Hulk BAF wave was in production before the reversal to window boxes so arrives in plastic-free packaging with the figure illustrated on the front and back, with the BAF checklist moving to the left-hand spine, leaving the right to carry the character illustration. The box design remains standard with the scooped sides, hanging tab, and black base colour - while specific elements for The Marvels include the logo, the blue energy background for the figure art, and some gold, blue, red, and white tramlines offset to the main panel - paying homage to each of the main characters. Monica is wearing her new ‘Photon’ suit presented on Aladna and then worn through the movie’s finale. This is more or less a full black plastic cast body, with white painted paneling around the torso and down each of the arms and legs. Where the white is painted over the black base there is a definite dulled finish. In contrast, the white areas of the midsection and arms are very crisp as here the main body part is cast in white and the black is overpainted. There is a central Photon symbol sculpted as a relief on Monica’s chest and this is painted out in silver. The suit gets further variation with gloss black used on the boots and shoulder panels. The head sculpt is a very strong likeness to actor Teyonah Parris with added realism applied via the photo-real face print technology. The hair is also well executed as an individual piece and while it is left in the base plastic colour, the depth of sculpt allows light and shadow to create depth. The overall look for Photon is well proportioned and specific to the actor rather than ‘borrowing’ parts from Captain Marvel herself considering the suits are quite similar in design other than the colour. Photon is sadly let down with accessories, coming only with a pair of clenched fists to alternate with the opening hands that are in place on her arrival. These open hands are very much screaming out for some powered effects to reflect Photon’s light powers - even if that had been a translucent white version of the standard ‘magic’ effects that are often used on magic-wielding or powered individuals Articulation is ok but not as extensive as some other more recent releases. There are 18 points in total, all pinless, and with double joints on the elbows and knees. Photon does however miss out on any obvious butterfly shoulders, she also only gets a single torso ball joint and a single neck joint. There is sufficient here for a number of posing options, but do be mindful that the lines of the suit are soon misaligned when any leg posing comes into play. Monica is perfectly stable when posed. As one of the three stars of The Marvels, Photon always needed a figure, and the decision to release her in what we assume is her MCU suit going forward is a good one vs the more casual clothes we see her in before reaching Aladna. The execution of the suit is pretty accurate and let down slightly by the variations of white between the cast white parts and painted white parts. Our review version that we purchased also included some disappointing paint errors including silver from her chest emblem spilled onto the black. The biggest issue is a lack of accessories, something that is starting to become more widespread with the Legends MCU releases in particular. Monica really needed some form of powered effects piece to reflect her ability to use light powers - particularly considering what is included with the other two Marvels figures in the wave. While Photon has some small issues, the overall figure is pretty strong for a debut character. The display options are also enhanced with the ability to recreate The Marvels movie poster with the other two figures from the wave for display. McFarlane has released details of a new DC Multiverse Gold Label 'Sketch Edition' version of their Hazmat Suit Batman figure, based on the Justice League: The Amazo Virus storyline. The new figure will feature two head options - one normal and one roaring - and opens for pre-order via the Godzilla Store as of the 1st of December 2023. “Every step you took to get here, Lamentis, The Void, I paved the road. You... You just walked down it.” He Who Remains, as seen in the finale of Loki Season 1, was released in the Marvel Legends series in 2022. He was part of a Disney+ wave that also included Richard E. Grant’s Loki from the show, as well as characters from What If? And WandaVision as well as a Khonshu Build-a-Figure from Moon Knight. The wave was one of the first to see the transition away from window boxes to the plastic-free design that included illustrations of the figure on the box front and side art, with a checklist of contents and the BAF breakdown moving to the side and reverse of the box along with the usual brief background text. He Who Remains is a brand new figure, and replicates the outfit we see him wearing when he meets Loki and Sylvie at the End of Time. This is made up of a grey/green torso piece sculpted with a central chest emblem that is picked out in gold paint as it swirls away from a central circle. Beneath this are a simple pair of green cast trousers, overlaid with a softer plastic khaki skirt segment. He Who Remains is wearing a soft plastic overcoat in rich purple and a pair of sandals. With the exception of the torso piece and some detailing on the hands and feet, there are no further paint apps with the coat, in particular, relying on the depth of sculpt of the folds and creases to add depth. The head sculpt is a strong likeness to actor Jonathan Majors and utilises photo-real facial printing to add further details such as the eyes, and the facial hair. The hair is black textured plastic and appears to be an individual plug-in piece which means the transition from skin tone to hair is crisp and even with no unsightly bleeding of one into the other, or flesh-coloured hair where paint has been missed. He Who Remains comes with a solitary accessory, a green apple that fits into his outstretched right hand. The apple does what is intended in terms of looking like an apple, and adds some character to the figure, but little else and my preference would have perhaps been some form of TVA-themed accessory like a TemPad of TVA handbook - or an alternative head sculpt with varied expression. Articulation is 16 points in total, all pinless, and inclusive of double-jointed knees, but only single-joint elbows and no butterfly shoulder joints or dual-jointed neck. The joints all work as intended and there are a number of expressive posing options available for He Who Remains (with or without his apple). He does seem to have a tendency to fall backwards once posed. This appears to be an issue with the feet and the ratchet in the ankle rocker not quite seating them flat, rather than a weight distribution issue. One to be mindful of in a cramped display as He Who Remains has wiped out many of my MCU figures during his time in the collection - which I guess is a bit of foreshadowing. The current situation surrounding Jonathan Majors has certainly seen the enthusiasm for Kang and his variants wane and He Who Remains has been a very consistent peg warmer at deep discount for a number of months now. His recent appearances during Loki Season 2 may now see a renewed interest in the figure, and if he is available at less than the RRP then you will get a good-looking figure, with a crisp colour scheme and adequate articulation for your collection. Like Sylvie and some of the other Loki figures, they perhaps are a bit lack-lustre on their own, but they certainly offer more for an MCU or a more focused Disney+ collection once assembled into a wider group.
