“I know you believe in me, Anakin, and I’m grateful for that. But this isn’t about you. I can’t stay here any longer, not now.” Released in the autumn of 2023, the Ahsoka Tano (Padawan) figure was a Galaxy Collection Wave 12 release alongside other Clone Wars figures including the Phase II Clone Trooper and Magna Guard. Wave 12 was the final Black Series wave to use the plastic-free packaging so the angled side box has no windows with the figure depicted posed on the front cover and in a more static catalog pose on the side and reverse to confirm the contents. Padawan Ahsoka is number 13 in the Clone Wars Galaxy Collection. The yellow accent colour assigned to the show is present in the text and the side art, with Ahsoka’s section of the wider mural continuing on from Clone Commander Jesse, and sitting ahead of the Phase II Clone Trooper from the same wave. The rear of the box features the usual brief background text that confirms Ahsoka’s role as Anakin’s Padawan learner. The figure depicts Ahsoka at her youngest, circa Season 5 before she left the Jedi order. The figure is new as far as I can tell with no obvious use of parts from the 2020 release of Ahsoka from the final season of Clone Wars. The main torso is the burgundy vest with cutouts on the front and rear with the skin tone painted in. The legs are a grey finish with diamond cutouts down either side with further visible skin tone. The leggings end at the knees and from here we find the burgundy colour returning for the plain, knee-high boots. Ahsoka’s arms are a skin tone plastic with painted burgundy wraps around her biceps, and burgundy wrist bracers and fingerless gloves. The outfit is finished off with a softer plastic belt and skirt combo that features a printed red pattern against the pink of the front sash. Further paint detail is then added with the gold belt buckle and the metal of the belt loops. We also get a sculpted pendant around Ahsoka’s neck picked out in gold paint despite its location and limited visibility once the head is in place. The head itself goes down the usual Black Series route of converting an animated character into a real-world setting. With no direct actor to base this on from Clone Wars it is difficult to comment on the likeness, and some of the proportions - the eyes in particular - remain routed in the animated style. Faceprint will have been used, but the finish lacks the usual realism although it does recreate the white facial marlins accourately. The head tails are trimmed in the gold headpiece Ahsoka wears through her time on the show and then these flow down either side of her face and down her back with the blue striping painted in place. The Padawan braid is also present as a softer plastic gold piece sitting between the rear head tail and the back of the front right Lekku. Ahsoka is packed with her twin lightsabers which are silver in colour and include black detailing. Like the pair seen in the Clone Wars, they are two different sizes and feature green slot-in blades in translucent plastic. When not in use each saber hilt features a plug that slots into a corresponding hole on Ahsoka’s belt. The fit here is good for the larger hilt, but a bit more difficult to engage with the smaller version. The blades arrive straight - a blessing considering the lack of an inner tray to keep them secured - and they clip in and out of the corresponding hilts well enough. The hands are shaped to grip the sabers with the right shaped to hold the saber in the usual gripped position. The left hand is profiled for Ahsoka’s reverse grip - and like we have seen with other Ahsoka figures, and also recently with Starkiller, this gripping position is difficult to get secure when the saber is extended out behind the figure. Ahsoka’s smaller hands and relatively soft plastic doesn't help. Articulation comes in at just 16 points in total, the figure inclusive of the newer format legs that lose the thigh swivel and gain some swivel articulation at the single knee joint. The upper torso works on a single ball joint in the hips which has some limitations in movement. The head too is also restricted purely due to the Lekku and their position around the shoulders. The arms are probably the best articulated element thanks to the butterfly shoulders working with the 90-degree elbow bend to enable a number of poses whether they be more dynamic display stances, or those wanting to replicate some of Ahsoka’s mannerisms like the crossed arms in particular. Despite her small frame, Ahsoka stands perfectly well once posed. This newest version of Ahsoka fills a neat whole in her Star Wars history and complements a number of the existing Clone Wars releases, notably the 2021 Clone Wars Anakin and leading any of the 501st Clones including Echo, Jesse, and of course Rex himself. The figure also coincides with the live-action ‘flashback’ of Ahsoka during this time in her training in the Disney+ Ahsoka series, and while the likeness of the figure is not aligned to actor Ariana Greenblatt the figure still works if you wanted to go down that route for a display. A solid release and one that will enhance a Clone Wars display - particularly alongside Anakin and the 501st Troopers. US Retailer Walmart has listed the Jazwares Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadron B-Wing from Series 5 live on its site, giving us a better look at the incoming release. The B-Wing is a Starfighter Class and comes with its pilot. It measures 5 inches end to end and the cockpit rotates. The rear packaging also shows previously unannounced variants of Poe Dameron's X-Wing in the orange & white Rise of Skywalker colours, and a holographic X-Wing. We also get to see the Series 5 V-Wing design - previously only shown as a silhouette - and this features a white & grey Imperial era scheme. Take down Star Destroyers with the B-wing Starfighter. McFarlane has previewed another DC Multiverse Gold Label release heading to Target stores in the US. The new Cassandra Cain as Batgirl figure opens for pre-orders as of the 30th of January 2024 and is likely to be a March/April 2024 release. Here in the UK, and in other territories, the Gold Label figures are not retailer-specific and should be offered via the usual retailers. “Let me take it from the top. Hello, I'm the Doctor. I'm a traveller in Space and Time, and that thing buried down there is called a TARDIS” It has taken pretty much 4-years to the day for Jo Martin’s Fugitive Doctor to make it into the Character Toys Doctor Who line. The Fugitive Doctor debuted on the 26th of January 2020 during the Fugitive of the Judoon. The corresponding collectors set was announced by Character on the 22nd of January 2024 and began to ship the next day. The set is a Character Store Exclusive and is therefore at a more premium price than the sets we see in B&M stores which are predominantly tweaks and repaints. The set arrives direct from Character in an outer brown shipper with no direct protection between the outer box and the packaging - which does mean if you are keeping it boxed you are relying on safe handling by the Royal Mail because any knocks to the outer box will transfer straight through. The packaging is a new take on the existing design and is themed around the 60th Anniversary. It is square overall but with an angled cut-out on the left-hand side top corner. The base colour is the blue time vortex backdrop we have seen as elements of the 2023 B&M sets, with an image of the TARDIS inserted to the bottom right. This cuts into the front window which is shaped around the other callouts and the angled segment. There are two further windows on either side allowing for a relatively full view of the TARDIS and the figure. The packaging retails several key principles that have been part of the line for some time, notably the use of the diamond calls-outs detailing the name of the set, the contents, and that it is part of the 5.5” collector series. A similar-sized red diamond is used to confirm this as a Character Online Exclusive rather than the gold foil ‘limited edition’ badge used on the B&M sets. The rear of the box transitions to a white background and includes extensive details about The Fugitive Doctor and her TARDIS in terms of her Whoniverse storyline rather than any details of the episodes in which she appears, or any mention of the actor or the costume or TARDIS design. Inside the box we have the TARDIS fixed into a square cardboard plinth base with screws and the figure is then packed into a plastic tray which is attached to and around the body of the TARDIS. The figure is tied into this tray with white paper ties which are a little bit of an eyesore for boxed collectors. The set is listed as having an ‘Easter Egg’ for collectors, and this can be found as part of the packaging. Most recent TARDIS releases do not come with an internal backdrop, leaving you to view the interior plastic workings when you open the TARDIS store. In a very clever move, the set features a TARDIS console room interior shot incorporated into the packaging. For those opening the box, you can then pop this out via the perforated edges, fold it down the scored lines and insert it within the TARDIS. The Doctor is a brand new sculpt designed in the outfit we see her don as the Fugitive Doctor once her memories have been returned to her during the final scenes of Fugitive of the Judoon. The legs are cast in black plastic with sculpted boots, while the torso is a purple colour waistcoat with painted orange, blue and red designs on the shirt piece beneath. The waistcoat is also detailed with gold buttons, and this gold detailing extends then to buttons of the softer plastic outer coat in a dark blue finish. The same tone is then used on the arms, with the shirt sleeve cuffs protruding at the bottom and painted crisply in the bright colours of the shirt - yellows, greens and reds. The head sculpt is a good likeness to Jo Martin while remaining in keeping with the long-running Doctor Who line. It features painted eye and mouth details, with the hair comprising of a dark brown overlaid with a lighter brown dry brush. The ponytail is an individual piece plugged into the back of the head and flows down the rear of the figure. Articulation also remains in keeping with the Dr Who line as a whole with 16 points of articulation in total with key joints using the plugged engineering with the plugs themselves visible at the knees and elbows. The joints work to allow some variation in posing, but most are one directional and the lines of the figure and the outfit can be thrown out when joints are moved - particularly the bicep swivel. There is sufficient mobility in the joints to wield the included accessory, an impressive replica of The Division gun that the Doctor wields. This is black in terms of its base plastic, but then beautifully decorated with gold detailing and what I can only describe as an organic ‘bee wing’ design near the muzzle where an orange panel is crisscrossed with black lines. The weapon fits into the Doctor’s hands and can work with single or double-hand grips. Moving onto the TARDIS and this utilises the standard New Series TARDIS body as used most recently in the 2020 release for the 13th Doctor. We get a new roof profile with a flatter finish more akin to the TARDIS used by the earlier Doctors and accurate to what we see on screen during Fugitive of the Juddon. The main body is cast in a wood-grain blue plastic with dark wash weathering. The windows use an opaque milky white panel behind blue frames. The ‘Police Public Call Box’ signs are black with white text, while the instructional guidance on the front left door is black text on an off-white base. The interior is accessed in the usual way by pushing the doors inward. The interior is base blue to begin with but can be enhanced significantly by utilising the included TARDIS console room insert from the packaging. The doors are held open by a spring mechanism and these are released by manually closing the left-hand door, and then using the button built into the floor to release the spring on the right-hand side. There are no light-up or sound features included, but the base TARDIS did originate as an electronic version so the battery cover and speakers are still visible around the back. The release of the Fugitive Doctor and TARDIS marks another milestone in the long-running Doctor Who line from character, bringing us up to a full complement of figures for every Doctor and their variants through to the outgoing 14th Doctor fro the recent 60th Anniversary specials. In a line that has survived predominantly through the B&M tweaked and repainted sets for the past few years, having a brand new figure is exciting and shows the ongoing commitment to the line by Character. New figures do come at a premium though and the £39.99 price on this set is considerably above what we might have gotten used to paying at B&M. If this line is to continue then these premium exclusive sets sold via Character are likely the way forward, and if collectors like myself want to see brand new additions like the Fugitive Doctor - or indeed any new figures from the 60th Anniversary and Ncuti Gatwa’s first season - then we will need to understand the additional pricing structure for a limited production run like this set, and vote with our wallets support Character in getting these made. And regardless of pricing, or any initial headaches with getting this set ordered via the Character website, I cannot deny how great it felt receiving a brand new Doctor Who set and finding room for her in what is becoming a very crowded display - long may it continue. Super7 have annunced a variant release of their Toho Ultimates Godzilla minus One figure. The 'Minus Color' edition is a refresh of the existing figure in a black and white finish paying homage to the B&W 'Minus Color' release of the film itself. The next wave of Lord of the Rings figures from Diamond Select have been previewed over with Collider.com. The wave will see us complete the original Fellowship of the Ring with Merry and Pippin being released as part of Series 7. The two Hobbits are noted in the Collider article as coming with several accessories to flesh out the pack, but what these are is not yet confirmed in any of the images or the promotional blurb. The figures are live for pre-order as of the 26th of January 2024 and are listed as a September 2024 release. The Gandalf the White figure, originally pictured with Merry and Pippin does not appear to be included in Series 7 at this time. Complete the Fellowship! Mezco has unveiled a new DC Comics Golden Age figure Edition of Robin in their One:12 Collective Series. Robin will include four head options, alternative hands, handcuffs, Battarangs, a Grappling Hook with Rope, a Respirator Mask, and an alternative hand with a spinning sling effect. As with all One:12 releases, the figure also features a display base and stand. Golden Age Robin is a general release globally and will ship between June and August 2024. Swinging into action with his acrobatic prowess, Dick Grayson joins the One:12 Collective lineup as the original Robin! Diamond Select Toys and Netflix have shared the packaging for their incoming figures of Nemesis and Jimmy from Rebel Moon 300. Watchmen. Man of Steel. Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Army of The Dead. Hasbro hosted their first Star Wars Fan First livestream of 2024 on the 23rd of January 2024. A summary of the event is as follows. We will update this with promo images upon receipt. The event kicked off with some recap information from the Gift the Galaxy series of reveals including the Vintage Collection Clone Trooper 4-Pack and the Black Series Clone Trooper 2-Pack of the Phase 1 Clone Trooper Lieutenant and the 332nd Clone Trooper. We were reminded that 2024 is the 25th Anniversary of the Phantom Menace and the start of the prequel trilogy. Reveals for this already include the Retro Collection 3.75 Phantom Menace figure pack. The Vintage Collection has the deluxe Jango Fett coming later this year. While the Black Series has an Attack of the Clones C-3PO Battle Droid and a Super Battle Droid with specific decor exclusive to this set, they are joining the 2024 releases of Anakin and Padme from Episode 1. The team touched on distribution issues and that while the 'Brick & Mortar' releases will continue, the Fan Channel will be a key focus avenue in 2024 for more specialised or demanded releases. We will see how that plays out through the coming year. The team clarified what the Fan Channel setup was for each of the key global territories. The EuropeanFan Chanel retailers on scree included Pulse (as expected) but also Star Action Figures. The Black Series Phase 1 Clone Trooper on the new body is coming in the Spring of 2024. This is release 05 in the Attack of the Clones series, coming in Spring 2024, and sold on the Fan Channel (and Amazon in the US). There was then a 'big' reveal with the Destroyer Droid / Droideka finally joining the Black Series. He comes with a bronze finish over-sprayed with a purple hue. This is 04 in the Phantom Menace series. It is a Summer 2024 release. It's a Fan Channel release The reveals then moved back to the newer live-action Disney+ series with the reveal of Grand Admiral Thrawn from Ahsoka. He is a fully updated figure releasing in Spring 2025 (that is not a typo) so there is over a year to wait on this one as it stands. Pre-order all of these from the 24th of January. The Vintage Collection The VIntage reveals kicked off with a new release of Captain Rex using the newer Clone Trooper body. This one is on a Bad Batch card. We have a new Luke Skywalker X-Wing pilot on a New Hope Card using the artwork from the original Kenner release. There was a batch of Mandalorian reveals starting with a re-release of Axe Woves with an updated interchangeable helmet and a new card back with artwork from Mando Series 3. Joining Axe is the Mandalorian Fleet Commander (as also seen in the Black Series last year). The Commander also uses card art from Series 3. There is a new Din Djarin figure to keep this key character on pegs for new collectors. This is based on Series 3 and his search for the Mines of Mandalore. The last Mando revel is a new Grogu in his series 3 Hover Pram including three different hood covers. He also comes with a Beskar chainmail accessory. These are mainline releases in the US and Europe and Fan Channel elsewhere for a Summer 2024 release. The figures open for pre-order on the 24th of January. The Vintage Collection segment confirmed that the last two members of the Ghost Crew of the mural card art are incoming to complement the four that are packed with The Ghost HasLab. The figures of Sabine (Season 3) and CHOPPER (who includes two Loth Cats) will be packed together - with each figure individually carded with the mural artwork - into an outer box.
