A new Star Wars Vintage Collection 4-pack from The Clone Wars is being released as an Amazon Exclusive in Summer 2024. The 'Escape from Order 66' set features Ahsoka from the Siege of Mandalore, along with the three Droids who helped her remove Rex's inhibitor chip, R7-A7, CH-33P (Cheep), and RG-G1 (G-G). McFarlane Toys has announced a new licensing arrangement with NBC Universal to bring characters from the Universal properties to the Movie Maniacs line and McFarlane digital collectibles offering. This potentially now opens up Movie Maniacs to iconic movies such as King Kong, Universal Monsters, Back to the Future, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Child's Play, and E.T. A lot of these stray into properties already being released by NECA, which is why this has probably been specifically limited to the McFarlane 6-inch Movie Manics posed figure line. “I’m gonna give the rest of you the opportunity to walk out that door. I have no quarrel with you.” Since his debut in 2019, The Mandalorian has made many appearances across the Star Wars Black Series with each figure varying from the last either in the evolution of Mando’s armour and equipment, or in terms of specific scenes such as the Maldo Kries Mando with snow decor, or the Mudhorn Mando with muddied and damaged armour. All of Mando’s releases have, so far, arrived under the banner of his own Disney+ series, until this latest release. The Mandalorian from Wave 16 of the Galaxy Collection is taken from his appearance during The Book of Boba Fett and is subtitled as the ‘Glavis Ringworld’ Mando identifying his armour and equipment from the time he spent apart from Grogu and seeking out his Covert and The Armorer. The figure is part of a four-figure wave dedicated to The Book of Boba Fett and that uses the now-returned window box with a deep green design as allocated to TBOBF. Mando is number 08 in the Boba Fett line following on from the Pyke Solider from the same wave. None of the previous Mando releases have been without inaccuracies or minor flaws, and this version could have simply been a repack or tweaked variant of an existing figure but instead Hasbro has reworked the Mando from the ground up with a full new figure that revisits every aspect of his Beskar armour and overall outfit for what is probably the most accurate Mando figure to date. The same principle from previous releases applies here with a brown undersuit body overlaid with the various Beskar armoured parts. These include updated and larger shoulder pauldrons, the right featuring the sigil of the Mudhorn. We have a new chest piece, new thigh armour and tweaks to the bracers and shin segments. The belt and shoulder strap are also reworked in softer plastic for a thicker finish and a new holster. Paint decor utilises the base plastic in most cases, either the brown garments or silver Beskar armour. Some variation in the outfit comes from blue panels around the belt and the left knee pad as well as silver details on the belt, overshoulder strap and some additional ammo stored around the right shin. Comparison of new Glavis Ringworld Mandalorian v the Maldo Kreis Mandalorian (2022) The helmet is also updated, slightly larger and adding again to the better proportions all around for the figure. It is not removable, sadly, but features the same Beskar silver as the armour as well as a glossy black visor section. We also now no longer have to choose between cloak or jetpack as this Glavis Ringworld Mando sees us upgraded to a soft goods cape fitted and tailored around the neck to sit down the right-hand side of his back. It is a similar fabric to Jedi robes so hangs pretty well and includes some holes and a tattered edge to mimic the onscreen look. The jet pack is also cast in silver Beskar and plugs into the rear of the Mandalorian armour via three pegs. The fit is snug and secure and the cape can be arranged around the Jetpack with neither interfering with the other. Articulation is all pinless and we have 19 points in total including the newer double-joint neck and butterfly shoulders. All the joints work with the armour allowing a fairly extensive level of posing options including the ability to kneel and the ability to wield any of the three included weapons. These weapons include Mando’s standard blaster and while at first glance this looks like the one from the previous releases a side-by-side comparison shows it is also new with a slightly longer barrel and so differing sculptwork on the body of the weapon. This is gunmetal in colour with a wooden grip and can be holstered on the belt, or held in Mando’s right hand - the only hand to feature the trigger finger. We also get a short knife, the one used in the scenes on Glavis Ringworld while battling Kaba Baiz and his henchmen. Like the gun, it features a metallic silver body and a brown handle. The proportions of the knife are good, but its slim size makes it very difficult for Mando to hold and we needed an alternative hand option here to hold the knife. What you can do is slot the knife away in the designed slot in the right lower leg - something I missed the first time around, but found later on while posing the figure for display. Amban Sniper Rifle is NOT included but can be fitted to the figure's back The other feature Hasbro has included with this new Mando is the retention of a socket for the Amban Sniper rifle so it can be shoulder-slung. While this weapon is not included in the set - or contemporary with the figure having been destroyed along with the Razor Crest before the scenes on Glavis Ringworld - we can still choose to mix-and-match parts from the older releases to create our own favourite look for Mando. The third weapon is the Darksaber, a key plot point of the Glavis Ringwold scenes with The Armourer. The Darksaber is the same as included with Moff Gideon, and most recently Pre Vizsla. It features a grey hilt and a removable black blade edged in white. The saber can be held in either hand and when not in use there is a hook on the saber hilt to hang it around the back of Mando’s belt. The one thing slightly conspicuous in its absence is the Beskar spear as that formed a key part of Mando’s look in The Book of Boba Fett until he had it melted down. The spear does exist in the Black Series but has only been included in the relatively hard-to-get and very overly expensive Amazon 2-pack with Ahsoka. Throwing that into this set would have finished the figure beautifully. This new Glavis Ringworld Mando is undoubtedly the best Mando figure to date, improving massively on the older body to give Din Djarin much better proportions overall while fixing key issues like the cape and Jetpack issues. There are neat touches too like the Knife and holster, the hook for the Darksaber and the additional socket for those who want to fit him with the older Amban Rifle. There is nothing not to like about this figure, a must-have for any New Republic-era collection. "I didn't realize the Pyke Syndicate was so ruthless." The Pyke Syndicate have been growing in influence in the Star Wars Universe following their appearances in The Clone Wars and Solo: A Star Wars Story, they came to the forefront as prime antagonists of the first season of The Book of Boba Fett and this face off against Tatooine’s newest Majordomo has also presented them with their first figure in the Star Wars Black Series 6 inch line. The Pyke Solider is, as the name implies, an army-building release and is part of Wave 16 of the Galaxy Collection - a wave turned over in its entirety to the Book of Boba Fett. Wave 16 started to arrive in late 2023 with the bulk of the figures hitting retailers in early 2024. The Pyke Solider features the resurrected windowbox and carries the green accent colour assigned to the Book of Boba Fett releases. The Soldier is number 07 in the BOBF collection sitting between the Tusken Chieftain and The Mandalorian - both from the same wave. The Pyke Soldier is what appears to be a full new figure made up of a deep blue undersuit with brown sculpted boots and gloves. Over this is a tabard in burgundy that completely covers the chests, and lows down to the Soldier’s knees. The tabard includes a sculpted belt painted in brown with silver details and inclusive of a larger pouch around the back. Further paint apps are added with a deep yellow stripe down the chest and a couple of red and white symbols sitting on either side of the neckline. Round the back of the figure the tabard features a sculpted hood that is withdrawn and lying against the back of the figure. We didn’t see these hoods in use during their live-action appearance and therefore realising these in plastic rather than soft goods is not a detriment to the figure. The head is made up of a metallic face plate in gold with black eyes, silver breathing tubes and some partial brown markings on both the forehead and cheeks. This is set into a hood that tapers backwards in three segmented pieces to the angled rear of their heads. The look overall is consistent with the redesigned Pyke’s for Book of Boba Fett and the colouring is accurate to some of the Pyke Soldiers, while others did sport masks of varying colours. You can arm the Pyke Solider with one or both of the included blasters. The first is a smaller hand blaster while the second is a larger blaster rifle with shoulder stock and sights. Both are reasonably detailed but are cast only in a dark brown/grey and have no additional paint apps. Both hands on the figure are provided with trigger fingers allowing dual wielding of both weapons or a single grip in either left or right hands. Articulation comes in at 17 points in total. The pinless body features the latest Black Series configuration with the thigh swivel removed and the leg swivel provided by the knee joint. The arms feature wrist, elbow and shoulder joints with the latter also featuring the secondary butterfly joint. The waist features a wide-ranging ball joint, and the head is jointed at both the base and top of the neck. The Tabbard uniform does hinder a few poses, particularly those involving kneeling, but other than that the Pyke Soldier can get into, and then hold, several poses. The blaster poses are particularly good with two-handed options for carrying and shooting the blaster rifle. The Pyke Soldier is a solid Black Series release that very simply recreates the soldiers we see in the final episodes of The Book of Boba Fett with a couple of weapon options and relatively extensive articulation to wield them with. The figure is an army builder and like Clones and Stormtroopers, grouping them will enhance their look - and the show itself presents opportunities for possible future variants with silver and bronze face masks seen when the Soldiers are arriving on Tatooine. All we need now is a Pyke Boss to lead them. “There are many different Tusken tribes. Since the oceans dried, we have stayed hidden. Other tribes have survived by killing” The Mandalorian has already featured several Tusken Raider appearances as the Sand People begin to carve out a larger role in the Star Wars Universe. The Book of Boba Fett expanded that even further with Fett living with the Tuskens for some time after escaping the Sarlac Pitt. This Tribe featured some particularly striking looks compared to the traditional Tusken’s seen across the Saga introducing bolder colours into their robes. Their Chieftain featured robes of deep burgundy and he was the first (and hopefully not last) of the Tribe to get a Black Series release. The Tusken Chieftain was part of the four-figure Wave 16 of the Galaxy Collection, a wave made up entirely of The Book of Boba Fett figures. The Boba Fett releases all featured a return to the window boxes and the deep green colour scheme and artwork established a couple of years prior with the Fennec Shand and Boba Fett releases. The Tusken Chieftain is number 06 in the Boba Fett series, following on from Cad Bane and preceding the Pyke Syndicate Soldier. While the new Tusken Chieftain looks and feels very different to the original release of the Sand People, several elements are taken directly from the original figure, and under the soft goods and rubberised skirt we have re-used legs and groin section and a pair of re-used arms with hands. Connecting them is a new torso section, and then over this sits a new softer plastic skirt section. All of the base parts are cast in very similar dark brown finishes but with contrasting parts such as forearms vs hands. We then also get a level of darker wash on the skirt section to give wear and weathering to the garment. The skirt also features a darker-painted belt with pouches, a hanging trophy of sorts and a bronze metallic fastening. The soft goods are similar to the original Tusken’s but in a much darker fabric and with a two-tone finish that sees rich burgundy stripes running next to the darker brown. The burgundy is painted or printed onto the brown and these areas are tougher and not as easy to fold or pose. The arms are stretched roughly under the armpits to hold the robes in place and further stitches sit to either side to hold the robes in against the body. The material needs a bit of manipulation to sit correctly for display. It is also delicate in places, probably intentionally to give a frayed look rather than neat stitching to finish an edge as we might see on a Jedi robe or similar. The head is new but follows the established Tusken Raider look with a breather mask, protruding eye pieces, head spikes and a wrapped rear segment. The same red and brown tones run through the mask with another patch of metallic bronze used for the breathing vent. The Chieftain’s look is finished with a complex neck piece which is made up of rope-like strands, a teeth necklace and a silver ornate pendant hanging at the base. Also caught up in this decor are the other parts of the rebreather and these sit a little off-centre on my figure. There is a solitary staff accessory that mimics the prop used in the show and also carries features of the Tuken’s gaderffi sticks with one end using the club-like end of the standard weapon. The bottom end is much more simple in its design with a single cap piece picked out in gunmetal. Articulation is 19 points in total with the Tusken Chieftain not only benefitting from the older double-jointed knees but also the newer butterfly shoulders worked into the new torso. The lower skirt puts pay to quite a bit of leg movement, but the arms have a good breadth of movement with the soft goods moving with them into a variety of posing options with or without his staff. The new Black Series Tusken Cheiftain is an accurate replication of the unnamed Chieftain we see during the early parts of The Book of Boba Fett. Re-used parts are not obvious, hidden beneath the new robes and skirt piece, and the articulation has been enhanced vs the older figure with the newer butterfly shoulders. The accessory is again accurate to the show, but I feel the Chieftain is missing something else like a black Melon or even some alternative hands to mimic the language of the Tuskens. With the Chieftain’s release, fans of the BOBF will be hoping more of the Tribe will see themselves in figure form with the Tusken Warrior a definite must and even some variant Tusken’s using the older figure in its entirety but with darker robes & colour scheme. Hasbro has set the date for the next Marvel Legends Fan Stream. The event, hosted by the Legends team, will take place on the 20th of February 2024 at 11am EST, that is 4 pm here in the UK. The event will be streamed live on YouTube, and we will of course summarise the key announcements after the event and all the subsequent press photos and details. The first McFarlane DC MUltiverse McFarlane Digitial releases were previewed back in the Summer of 2023 at SDCC. The premise is that these will be physical 7-inch DC Multiverse figures but will come with a McFarlane Toys digital collectible. Previewed today are three figures of Green Lantern, Batman, and Aquaman. This lineup is different from the one shown at SDCC with Wonder Woman and Batman a different version. The build-a-figure mentioned in the SDCC presentation is now confirmed to be a digital build-a-figure available via the McFarlane digital platform if you buy all three figures. "This isn't the first time I beat you out on a job. There's no shame in it.” Cad Bane has already had four releases in the Star Wars Black Series, a couple for his Clone Wars appearances (one standard, one exclusive with TO-DO 360), and another for his reappearance during The Bad Batch. His live-action debut figure following his appearance during the events of The Book of Boba Fett came in the Summer of 2023 as part of a ‘showdown’ two-pack with Cobb Banth. This same figure now gets a single release as part of Wave 16 of the Galaxy Collection themed solely around the Boba Fett series with new figures also including the Tusken Raider Chietain, Pkye Syndicate Soldier and a new Mandalorian figure. The wave started to arrive just before New Year 2023 with the bulk of orders fulfilled in January 2024. The Wave 16 figures oddly had no promo images of their packaging for quite some time, but they are thankfully a window box release and follow on with the green accent colouration established for The Book of Boba Fett with the earlier releases of Fett and Fennec Shand. Cad Bane is number 05 in that series and the side artwork connects directly to the deluxe release of Krrsantan. For those that already own the Exclusive 2-Pack version of Bane from TBOBF, then this Wave 16 release offers nothing new as it is a direct repack with no obvious variations other than minor paintwork differences that you might expect from different factory production runs. This live-action Bane is a new figure in its own right, not obviously using any parts from the prior Clone Wars and Bad Batch releases. He is given a much broader profile and stature, still slim as are all Duros, but more aligned to the stuntman Dorian Kingi who acted out the Cad Bane scenes while Corey Burton provided the voice. The figure features the main elements cast in their base colour. A dark brown in most cases with overlaid paintwork to pick out key costume elements such as the components of his inner tunic picked out in re and silver, the ammo on his belt and shins with a gunmetal finish, and most starkly the electric blue of the wrist gauntlets with their trailing leads in silver and gold and their controls also featuring more red and silver buttons. Gunslingers belt is an individual piece and this flows down to twin holsters strapped to either thigh. Similarly, the overcoat is a softer plastic piece with the flow of the left-hand side pushed back over the left-hand holster to replicate that gun-slinging stand-off. The head too is of wider proportions to previous releases and a good match to the live-action prosthetics. The skin tone is an accurate blue with orange-painted eyes with a red hue at the edges. There is also a washed element to bring out the depth of sculpt around the mouth, eyes and forehead. The remainder of the head is part of a flight suit and black in colour but with a silver painted patch over one half of the top of the head. The breathing tubes, also in silver, come down out of the cheeks and back over the shoulders to a connected box on the back of the figure. These tubes retain a level of flexibility but you should be mindful of their reach when moving the figure's head. The look is of course finished with Bane’s wide-brimmed hat - also cast in a dark brown softer plastic with painted silver panels and trim. It is a perfect fit to the domed head and doesn’t look oversized when worn - an issue often seen with removable hats or hoods. Cab Bane comes with his twin blasters, intricate in their design with a slim barrel, squared-off body and scope, and a grip with an open trigger. The base colour is gunmetal silver with a brown shade added to the grip. These slot into both hands with Cad Bane featuring trigger fingers on both left and right. They can also be holstered away, although for some reason the figure I purchased had a very tight fit on getting these inserted, to the point I thought it was blocked. After a few goes they are working much better but remain tight. The exclusive version featured two firing effect pieces for the blasters, and while the sockets on the barrels are in place the effects themselves are not included so they remain exclusive to the 2-pack release. Articulation is 19 points in total, all pinless and the figure comes with butterfly shoulders hidden neatly behind the coat. The coat length does hold back some poses, so while Cad Bane can kneel or sit the coat will not fully allow that pose to be achieved. The arms can be posed drawing or holstering the blasters, firing them or just holding them menacingly. For those who skipped the two-pack, this single release is better value for money in terms of the general release price and the fact most of us had a Cobb Vanth figure to start with - albeit with his armour. You do miss out on the firing effects, but everything else is the same. The figure is executed very well - from the translation from live action to figure, to the colouring, paint details, removable hat, blasters, holsters, and articulation. There is not much to fault and he is a great addition to the Disney+ New Republic era collection.
