“I don't have to win. We both just have to lose!” As has become standard for most Marvel Cinematic movies outside the main Avengers volumes, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was given a partial wave of figures to mark its release, with a trio of Quanumania Marvel Legends sharing the case with four other comic book figures that were Ant-Man related. The wave was also given a Quantumania Build-a-Figure of Cassie Lang, bringing the movie’s entire complement of figures at release to four. Unusually the Quantumania figures arrived much later than the movie thanks to a change of scheduling swapping around Quantumania and The Marvels in the release schedule. So while we all saw the movie in February of 2024 it was mid-summer until the figures arrived on shelves. The Quantumania figures landed during the ‘plastic free’ packaging stage for Marvel Legends so the box has no window, and the figure is simply illustrated in posed images on the front and reverse. The build-a-figure checklist moves to the side spine, replacing one of the illustrated panels. The box design features the bold Quantumania logo and a trim of red and gold against the black box base replicating the suits worn by both Scott and Hope in the movie. There is also a large blue Quantum Realm inspired backdrop to the front artwork that also contains a secondary zoomed-in image of the character. Ant-Man is the only figure in the wave to come without a Cassie Lang build-a-figure part. Ant-Man is an entirely new figure, recreating the updated suit he uses throughout the events of Quantumania. The suit itself is much more complicated than the prior suits, but this is translated well to the figure with black base textured panels with red and silver detailing across the body. Scott Lang has ironically shrunk slightly with this new release, standing shorter than previous Ant-Man figures and yet still taller than Kang from the same wave - a wave that has a few consistency issues with heights and proportions. We get two head options for Scott starting with the helmet which uses a similar design and colour scheme as the suit, although with more of a gunmetal base colour. It is on the small size when you consider a human head has to fit in there and is smaller than that of Wasps in height, although it is wider. The helmet features a translucent red visor, through which Scott’s eyes are visible and while this detail is pretty great at 1/12 scale, it does cause an issue if you want an unmasked Scott to hold his helmet (even though they didn’t work that way in the film). The unmasked head is a slightly improved Paul Rudd likeness, but still not perfect. Facial printing is used on the features and to give a bit of stubble around his chin. The main issue with the head is the size, as it looks immediately far too big for the body and the unmasked head is actually larger than the helmet version which makes no sense. Not only is Scott devoid of any BAF parts, but he also lacks any substantial accessories despite there being a number of options from the film. We do get an alternative pair of hands allowing you to choose from a pair of clenched fists, an open-palm left hand, and a right hand sculpted into a pointing motion. Articulation is good with 18 points of articulation across a body without any restrictions, allowing every joint a full range of motion. Ant-Man is fun to pose and stands perfectly well in several positions. The new Quantumania Ant-Man is an average release in a wave that lacks any standout figures. Ant-Man is certainly better than Kang in execution but not quite as good as the Wasp who is better proportioned overall, gets a much better likeness in the unmasked head, and who features additional accessories with her winged backpack. Ant-Man’s heads are the key issue with the helmet too small, and the unmasked head too big - leaving either look unnatural on display (there is a bit of a fix if you read to the end for our figure hack). The suit itself, and articulation are solid enough and the figure is enhanced when posed with the complementing figures of Hope and Cassie from the same wave. The older head, while not accurate to the movie, is better in terms of sizing and proportions and does give you an option for display if the sizing issue bothers you. If you have had any thoughts about using the unmasked head to create a Gary Grooberson figure from Ghostbusters; Frozen Empire then I am sad to report the proportions here are even worse and the head looks unnatural on the Hasbro Ghostbusters bodies. Kang comes with the two Cassie Lang head options for the build-a-figure. Out of the box and it becomes obvious that our new Kang the Conqueror figure is not as impressive as we might hope. The first issue is the height, with the figure coming in only a tad taller than Wasp and even a touch shorter than Ant-Man. Kang should be much taller than both, with actor Jonathan Majors standing at 6ft tall compared to Evangeline Lilly who is only 5’ 5, and Paul Rudd who is 5’ 9. The figure's proportions also feel off with very skinny legs, a slim waist, and a lack of definition and bulk in the arms. Sizing aside, the suit is a good replication of the Quantum Realm outfit worn by Kang with a green base colour and glossy, almost metallic panels, belt, and trim. There is a softer plastic skirt piece that extends up and over the torso and then a further plastic cape that runs the full length of the body, flaring out at the base. The head sculpt in terms of recreating the look of Kang the Conqueror is also good, with a visible likeness to Majors albeit with the blue-hued skin and white eyes. The facial markings appear printed, but also have a definite sculpted element to them when you run your fingers over them. The head is then encased in the helmet that uses the same purple plastic as the armoured pieces. Kang has no accessories, and the only additional parts are a second pair of hands. This gives you a pair of clenched fists, and a pair of open hands to work with. Articulation is pinless but is sadly limited with 18 obvious points of articulation, with quite a bit of it is restricted by the outfit. The arms are hardest hit with the wider torso section cutting off much of the shoulder movement. The skirt also restricts the upper legs, while the figure is frustratingly difficult to stand with offset ankle ratchets that don't meet up in a flat-footed pose. Widening the stance will help, but the skirt piece also restricts this as does the springy hip joints that want to pull back into the neutral position. In nearly every aspect, there is a level of disappointing execution with Kang the Conqueror starting with his proportions. He should be at least 6.5 inches tall compared to other male characters and his physique should be bulkier. We should be getting a Kang that is at least the same height as Killmonger (a figure we reviewed recently) but he is a good deal shorter despite both actors being almost identical heights. We are also let down by articulation with several joints sacrificed in their movement by the costume and armour, and sadly he lacks some basics like stability when posed. There are some positives, particularly the head sculpt, and with some creative posing and perhaps having him elevated over your other Quantumania figures he will fill a gap, particularly as there are unlikely to be any further Kang figures - at least in terms of Kang as played by Majors. The next Marvel Legends Spider-Man The Animated Series 2-pack is now open for pre-order exclusively at Hasbro Pulse. The new two-pack featuring Doctor Strange and Morbius was revealed a couple of weeks ago on the last Marvel Legends Fanstream. The Wasp is a brand new figure, replicating in full the updates to her suit for Quantumania and enhancing on her previous release from Ant-Man and the Wasp. The body is cast in black with yellow/gold painted panels and blue striping down the arms and legs. Details are picked out on the shoulders with some red indicators, and we have silver-painted wrist devices to finish off the suit. The helmet is well-proportioned to the body with a gunmetal finish and a translucent yellow visor through which Hope’s eyes are visible. While this detail is great, it does look a bit odd if you want an unmasked Hope holding her helmet. My figure did come with a bent-over fin at the top which has refused to straighten under any circumstances - an issue with the way the plastic-free box figures are packed and wrapped without any protective tray to hold them in situ. We also get an unmasked Hope Van Dyne head which is a stunning likeness to Evangeline Lilly. It's been sculpted with a neutral expression but still holds plenty of character. The hairpiece is now short to reflect the style she has in Quantumania and as is now pretty standard practice it is cast as an individual piece and then joined to the head making the hairline crisp and without the risk of any paint errors. The Wasp comes with two backpack options to reflect her wings extended or withdrawn. The retracted version is a simple silver piece shaped to plug into the rear of the figure with a central red gloss panel. The extended version has the same central piece but now with openings on either side into which translucent clear plastic wings are attached and jointed. The only other accessories are an alternative pair of hands giving you the choice of using a pair of closed fists, a pair of open hands - or a combination of the two. The articulation is pinless but slightly pared back on some of the newer releases with only 16 points of articulation - Wasp doesn’t feature any bicep swivels or butterfly shoulders. She also misses out on a dual-joint neck and has a single torso joint with no waist movement. That being said there is plenty of movement for getting Wasp into plenty of posing options including kneeling, or flight poses with a suitable after-market stand. I do find the leg positions frustrating as the joints and the cut of the suit have the feet pointing inward and while the thigh swivels can remedy the pose this then breaks the blue line trim down the front of the legs. The Wasp is a solid MCU Marvel Legends release ticking boxes on sculpt, paintwork, and with another impressive likeness to the onscreen character. She has sufficient articulation but feels a bit hard done by with only 16 joints in total and half of these solely in the legs. We no longer expect extensive accessories with our Marvel Legends anymore so in terms of the Wasp she is somewhat blessed with two heads, alternative hands, and two backpack options including the winged piece which works well suit works well. The main gripe is the figure's stance vs the suit decor meaning you either have a lined-up suit but odd turned-in feet, or a more natural stance but out-of-line striping for the suit. Revealed as part of the Games Workshop Warhammer Relics Festival are three new McFarlane Warhammer 40k releases. Joining the line is a new Iron Warrior Chaos Marine, a Blood Angels Reiver Sergeant, and a painted version of the Ymgarl Genestealer. These are all due to be available later this Spring. If you like your figures bigger and chunkier, you’ll be glad to know a new selection of Warhammer classics are coming to the range from McFarlane Toys. This villainous Iron Warrior headlines the eighth wave of releases that joins a wide assortment of figures from Space Marines and Necrons to Orks and Tyranids, emerging from the Warp with a selection of weapons including an accursed boltgun, power maul, bolt pistol, and a wicked-looking sword. It’s accompanied by a Blood Angels Reiver Sergeant equipped with a bolt pistol, bolt carbine, combat blade, and grapnel launcher, as well as a horrifying Ymgarl Genestealer – with mouth-tentacles and all. Tamashii Nations has previewed a new Ahsoka Tano S.H. FIguarts figure from Ahsoka on Disney+. The new figure appears to feature at least two head/face options, a soft goods cloak, twin lightsabers with both static and 'in motion' blades, and a couple of versions of the galactic map orb. Hasbro held a G.I. Joe Classified Series FanStream event on the 29th of February 2024 The previously announced Target (US) exclusive set of Tigerforce Roadblock and Tripwire with M.A.C.L.E.O.D. is now live for pre-order at Target in the US with a July 21st, 2024 release date. Also as previously announced, the new figures of Dreadnok Torch, Nightcreeper, Jinx, Doc, and the deluxe Gnawgahyde with Porbelly and Yobbo are also open for pre-order today with a July release date. These are general US releases but exclusive to Hasbro Pulse in the UK. These latest releases showcase a new window box packaging. Also exclusive to Hasbro Pulse is the Techno-Viper with H.M.S, a deluxe set that opens for pre-order on Hasbro Pulse globally. The packaging for this one has been left consistent with the release of the H.I.S.S. Tank and the support releases. There were then several new reveals including digital render reveals for upcoming Retro Carded releases of Beachhead, the Cobra Eel, and Snow Serpent, as well as a Deluxe Cobra Ferret ATV with a female driver. These Retro releases are no longer exclusive in the US and are mainline releases - they are likely to remain Hasbro Pulse exclusives in the UK.
