“This was where I fit, where I was needed.” Clone Trooper - and later ARC Trooper - Echo was seen across much of The Clone Wars animated series with his journey from ‘Shiny’ to ARC Trooper and leader documented across the wider series. His apparent death on the Rishi Moon was then revisited in Season 7 and at the same time that Clone Force 99 (The Bad Batch) was introduced. Echo would go on to join that team and become a regular during the Bad Batch series. Echo from The Bad Batch (Season 1) was released in the Star Wars Black Series, arriving in 2022 as part of the Galaxy Collection 7. The wave was split between The Bad Batch and The Mandalorian with Omega also making her Black Series debut in the wave. Echo arrives in the standard Black Series packaging and is aligned in the deep red colouring assigned to The Bad Batch. Echo is number 11 in the series following on from Echo and before the Amazon Exclusive Cad Bane. When Echo joined Clone Force 99 he was kitted out in a version of the ARC Trooper armour he wore before his capture at The Citadel. The figure therefore replicates this and similarly borrows elements from previous Clone Trooper figures as well as adding in new elements. The legs on Echo are from the newer Clone Trooper body but with new knee segments sitting over the joint. While the Kama skirt looks similar to that used on other ARC Troopers it is a new, or reworked piece with the pouches and belt sculpted onto the skirt and only a single holster on the left-hand side. The entire upper body appears to be new although the shoulder pauldrons may be re-used as is the left hand hand. Like any of the newer Clones, the body is made up of a black ‘undersuit’ which makes up much of the joints overlaid with armour - a grey colour in this instance for Clone Force 99. The Kama skirt is also coloured black with it, and the armour features a deep red trim in places. Echo also bears the scars of battle with scratches and pot marks on the chest armour in particular and he displays the Clone Force 99 skull symbol as a decal application on the left side of his chest armour. The right arm is the prosthetic piece we see in the series ending in a terminal connection. This is a lighter grey than the rest of the armour with more red highlights. The head is new but likely originates with the Temura Morrison headcast at some point. It is a paler skin tone as seen in the show with Echo after his ordeal with the Separatists. There are metal implants around the skull and the black cybernetic implant covering his ears and the rear of the head. Facial printing details the eyes and mouth and gives Echo a live-action look, an approach taken for all animated characters made into Black Series figures. The look is finished off with Echo’s backpack - the same as used on Tech but in a darker grey to match Echo’s armour and with gold and red details. Despite sounding hollow the piece does not open or have any functionality and the two aerial pieces are fixed although they are flexible enough to be durable when handling or posing Echo. The backpack connects with a single plug socket connection and while this looks small, the fit is secure. Echo’s helmet is new and shaped to slot into his cybernetic head implants. This is achieved with a full face plate and top section but with the rear of the helmet being split with the lower segment being two individual ‘straps’ that connect together by way of a peg. The helmet is grey in colour with a light grey base colour and darker grey trim. Black is used on the visor and a Clone Force 99 deal is added to the forehead section. The helmet is a bit trickier to engage than usual due to the shaping, and you need to come at it from the upper front and not directly overhead. Once installed over and around the head, you can connect the rear straps to hold it in place. Echo has a single blaster for use with his left hand and left holster, yet despite this Hasbro has failed to give him a gripping trigger hand and therefore the grip on the blaster is awkward and insecure. The blaster itself is the usual DC-17 in black plastic and assuming you don’t want to have it in hand it can be holstered in the sole working holster. Echo also comes with an extension piece to his right arm reflecting a piece of concept art for another cybernetic enhancement that was never translated to the series. It is silver in colour with a quad claw end piece that is not articulated. It is shaped to sit over the existing right forearm and act as an extension. The Bad Batch Echo (Season 1) is possibly the best-executed Bad Batch figure to date in terms of both his armour and overall likeness. While the original Hunter and Crosshair in particular had some proportional issues, Echo looks great both in design and proportions with a strong paint job and a good level of damage - if not weathering - added to parts of the armour. The helmet is a difficult design to replicate, but Hasbro’s solution is elegant and works well - it is just a pity then they cut corners with the left blaster hand which is the main disappointment of the release. The claw inclusion I understand considering the figure will have started out based on concept art and it is a concept that fits with Echo’s enhancements and is removable if you don’t want to display it. "I’ve Taken Down So Many Clones Over The Years. Once You Figure Out One, The Rest Are Easy.” After being established in The Clone Wars, Cad Bane made the jump to The Bad Batch at the end of the first season where we find him hunting down Omega. This appearance was translated to a Star Wars Black Series exclusive release in 2022 sold globally by Amazon. While the figure was sold exclusively, it remained part of the mainline Galaxy Collection and used the same window box packaging, slanted side, and deep red accent colour on the artwork. Cad Bane was number 12 in the Bad Batch series, following on from the Wave 7 release of Echo and with the artwork eventually connecting to the 2023 Clone Commando Exclusive. Cad Bane is designed around his Season 1 appearance on Bracca when facing off against The Bad Batch, and Hunter in particular. The figure uses elements from the original Clone Wars release - particularly the hips and upper thighs, lower arms, and hands - along with new parts and enhancements. Bane is no longer wearing his long coat, and instead, the base brown torso is overlaid with a large armoured panel in dull metallic grey, similar armour is added to the shoulders while the same colour is used on the gauntlets which continue to be connected by softer plastic pipework running up the arm. The legs are grey and plain but with new boots in green with brown and silver trim. The rocket jets remain in place, updated again from the Clone Wars release and painted silver and black. They plug into the side of each boot. The belt and holster finish the outfit, added as another softer plastic sleeve and incorporating an ammo belt with trimmed sliver ammo, and two holsters in a brown leather finish. Bane is also provided with a new head sculpt with an expression featuring narrowed eyes and a slight angle to the mouth which is either a smirk or a grimace. The blue head with painted red eyes is enclosed in the headgear which now comes up and over the forehead and includes the breathing tubes and apparatus that extend from either cheek and connect via a silver box at the rear - this is removable, although that is perhaps not a useful feature as Bane is never really seen without them.  The hat is also new, reduced in size since The Clone Wars but still brown leather in its finish, wide-rimmed, and trimmed on either side with metallic painted panels. It remains a snug fit on Bane’s head. As well as his hat, Cad Bane also comes with his twin blasters. These are the same as The Clone Wars release and coloured in the same way with a silver base, black trim along the barrel, and brown on the textured grip. These fit into either hand, with both left and right hands coming with a flexible trigger finger. When not in use they can also be slipped into the working holsters on the belt. Bane has 21 points of articulation if you count the rotation of the jet thrusters on either leg. The other joints are all pinless and include the new butterfly shoulder joints and dual joint neck. Both arms and legs have a wide range of options, restricted only by the holsters at the upper thighs and partially by the shoulder armour. The flexible pipework on the arms moves with the joint but these may be a weak spot over time. The breathing tubes on the head are also mobile and move with the neck as the head is posed. Cad Bane on Bracca is a good execution of an animated character in figure format with a faithful translation of the costume and armour. The head sculpt and body proportions remain slim and obviously embedded in his animated status but he fully complements the other Bad Batch figures and the wider Black Series collection, not looking out of place against any of the live-action figures. The articulation is good - improved even on the original - while the accessories, particularly the hat, give further display options and the ability to mimic Bane's mannerisms, such as when he tips his hat. Hasbro held their latest Marvel Legends Fansteam on the 20th of February 2024 with the event streamed live on their YouTube channel. The key headlines are as follows. We will update this thread with any press releases and promotional images later this evening. The stream kicked off with introductions with the usual Marvel Legends Team of Ryan, Dan, and Dwight hosting. It had been positioned before the event that while there was MCU news, no new MCU product would be revealed. They kicked off with a Giant-Man (HasLab) update and a preview of a sample of the head for Giant-Man. They referenced the MCU news such as Deadpool vs Wolverine with Legends incoming but they will be tied into the Marketing for the movie, so more on this to follow later in 2024. They did share the details of the re-issue for their carded X-Force Deadpool figure, and the Ultimate Riders Deadpool with Scooter. The news then switched to Spider-Man and the Animated Series. They took a look at the recently announced Daredevil vs Hydro-Man figures. The first reveal of the stream was another Spider-Man Animated Series VHS 2-pack with a pack of Doctor Strange and Morbius incoming. The set is a Hasbro Pulse exclusive and will open for pre-order later this month. Also joining the Spider-Man Animated Series line is The Prowler complete with masked and unmasked heads. This is a retro carded release exclusive to Walmart in the US - Fan Channel elsewhere. And heading to Target in the US (Fan Channel elsewhere) is a new Spider-Man Animated Series Carnage. The next item moved to the Fantastic Four and a new pack of Fantastic Four Wolverine and Spider-Man. This completes this version of the Fantastic Four after the two-pack of Franklin and Valeria Richards. This is a Fan Channel Exclusive - pre-order to follow later this year. The focus then switched to Avengers and a look at the Secret Empire Captain America revealed at the last Fanstream in December 2023. This is a Walmart US Exclusive, and a Fan Channel elsewhere - the preorder timings will be linked to a Walmart Collector Con. The Sam Wilson Deluxe Captain America is a Target exclusive and this will be open for pre-order on the 28th of February, They explained that 2024 was meant to be a Captain America movie year, but while the movie was delayed the product releases would not be. And the next reveal is a Captain America-themed two-pack of Baron Zemo and Arnim Zola. This is an Amazon exclusive with pre-order opening later this year. The promo shots for Zemo were missing the collar piece (removable) but it will be included in the set as per the boxed image. The focus then moved to S.H.I.E.L.D. and a new Fan Channel Exclusive 3-pack of Nick Fury, Sharon Carter, and Dum-Dum Duggan. This is another pre-order opening later this year. The set features a raft of accessories, not all shown during the Fanstream. The event's only pre-order was a full wave of mixed comic book figures that will include the previously shown Red Widow. She is joined by a classic Ikaris from Eternals, Black Winter, and Superior Iron Man. We also have some X-Men included figures with Wolfsbane, Cable, and Ka-Zar. The build-a-figure for the wave is Zabu. This wave, like the previous wave with The Void BAF, is not going to major retailers (Target, Walmart) and is therefore a Fan Channel release including Amazon. It is listed as due for release in May 2024 in the US - the UK release is down as July. The Zabu build-a-figure wave opens for pre-order on the 22nd of February 2024. “The map… give it to us” The HK-87 Assassin Droids were first introduced into the Star Wars Universe in The Mandalorian where they acted as bodyguards for Morgan Elsbeth on Corvus. The droids would continue to serve Elsbeth in the events of Ahsoka on Disney+ with several droids attacking Ahsoka on the planet Arcana. These droids had an updated paint job to a blood-red finish and wore black cloaks. One of these HK-87 Droids from Ahsoka was selected to be part of the first wave of Star Wars Black Series figures from Ahsoka and it was released in 2023 as the 5th and final figure of Wave 13 of the Galaxy Collection- the entire wave being dedicated to Ahsoka on Disney+. The Ahsoka figures were assigned a turquoise blue colour scheme which featured on the packaging and artwork, a shade different to that already in use for the Gaming Greats. The HK-87’s artwork follows on from that of its master, Morgan Elsbeth and leads into the Wave 14 release of Hera Syndula. The HK-87 is the same figure as released earlier in 2023 as part of Wave 10 of the Galaxy Collection. That HK-87 was released under The Mandalorian banner and was based on the droid’s look on Corvus. It appears that this droid is based on the ‘leader’ of the group that attacked Ahsoka on Arkana and so this time round the base droid body is cast predominantly in a dull red finish with painted gun metal chest panel, gun metal shoulders, and lower legs, and black and silver joints to break up the mass of red paint. The droid gets an updated belt, but this is left unpainted in the same base red. And we have a new soft goods cloak that covers one shoulder. This one is black with a tattered hem and no other trim or markings. The cloak can be removed to create variant HK-87 droids, although I assume Hasbro will most likely do that for us in the future now the droid type is established in the line. The head is exactly the same as the first release, but less defined thanks to the decision not to include any paint apps other than a tiny silver component on one side of the face. While there appears to be some minimal attempt at weathering with splodges of random silver paint in areas, the entire figure is a wash and a bit of detail away from at least being on par with the first release, if not exceeding it - but as it stands it looks cheap and unpainted. Our new HK droid also comes with the same blaster as the previous release. This feels lazy considering this particular HK-87 droid fought Ahsoka with an electro-staff and never used a blaster. Even the variants of the droid we saw with variant colour schemes used melee weapons and not blasters. The gun itself is OK with crisp detail and a sufficient gunmetal finish. It fits in the right hand and can be cradled by the left for a two-handed pose. Articulation is 18 points in total and the droid has an impressive range of movement without any bulkier armour to restrict the joints. Those joints are also part of the aesthetic with another droid release from Hasbro where the joints are designed with the figure and not disguised beneath other sculpted parts. Our HK-87 can be posed kneeling, standing, fighting or firing his blaster so there are plenty of choices (if only he had that electro staff). The flaw we saw with the original release and the stability is sadly carried forward. It is not as though the ankle joints are weak, they are simply not ratcheted in the right places to plant the feet on the floor. The feet click from too far forward to too far back with no middle ground to balance the figure on display and the droid is prone to toppling backward (or forward depending on the feet position). This is best avoided with the use of an after-market stand. The HK-87 from Ahsoka feels like a lazy release. I have no issue with the re-use, that is part of collecting and very consistent with the use of the same droid types across both The Mandalorian and Ahsoka. What is poor is the decor and paintwork, particularly the head, and the choice of accessories which is not in keeping with the droids scenes within the Ahsoka show. The figure will no doubt spawn future variants too and let’s hope one of those provides us with the correct electro-staff weapon that this droid really needs. “Do you know the key to hunting a Jedi, friend? It is patience.” The Grand Inquisitor was another character who originated in Rebels before being translated into live-action as a key part of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+. Despite his prominent appearances at the start and end of the series, The Grand Inquisitor was not part of the original Kenobi figure releases instead sitting in the Galaxy Collection Wave 9 releases as the sole Kenobi release and alongside figures like Clone Wars Maul, Aayla Secura, and four figures from The Mandalorian. The Grand Inquisitor is a window-boxed release using the blue accent colour for Kenobi on the text and artwork. He is number 09 in the series and his artwork sits between the exclusive 1-JAC release and the Deluxe figure of NED-B. The Grand Inquisitor is another full new figure with no re-used parts from the other male Inquisitor, Fifth Brother, who preceded him in the line and who uses a similar style of uniform. The Grand Inquisitor features a grey body similar in its styling to Imperial Officers, and over this sits the Inquisitorius Armour applied as a large chest piece with oversized shoulder armour, gauntlets, and boots. Like the Fifth Brother, he also features a belt and armoured panels to the side of each thigh. Colour application is limited to the red insignia badge on his chest as well as a silver buckle and indicators in red and grey around the belt. While the Utapaun screen look is controversial, it has been faithfully recreated in the figure with pale and sallow skin, inserted components in black over the ears, painted eyes and mouth but with shading around both to enhance the sculpt and with the facial tattoos printed on the forehead. The Grand Inquisitor’s look is finished with a soft goods cape, a soft material that is black on the outside and a deep red on the inner lining. It hangs naturally, but like most robes and capes at this scale it sits quite flat and lacks any folds or definition we would see on the real piece. Like both Reva and the Fifth Brother, the Grand Inquisitor is inclusive of his circular lightsaber. This is a smaller piece to Fifth Brother and coloured in a grey that almost looks unpainted and then trimmed in black. It features twin pegs on one side of the central shaft that allows it to be holstered on the Inquisitor's back with a gap left within the soft goods cape to keep that position available for use. These smaller pegs also minimise any issues with the grip compared to other sabers we’ve seen in the line of this design. It fits into either or both hands and then accepts one or both of the translucent red blades included in the set. Articulation is fully supportive of the Grand Inquisitor's lightsaber fighting ability and features 19 points across the pinless body. With the soft goods cape not posing any resistance, and a pair of shoulder armour panels that are cleverly jointed into the shoulder itself, the Grand Inquisitor has a fairly full range of motion and all joints feel tight and secure. The Grand Inquisitor is an impressive release with few flaws. The figure is well presented and a strong likeness to the onscreen look - albeit a look that has seen its share of controversy. The articulation is good without upsetting the look of the figure. The lightsaber accessory works well for both holstered and fighting positions although the paint job on the hilt is odd. And the soft goods do the job and are on par with the likes of Darth Vader and Jedi Luke. I am pleased also to see him scaled correctly at his full height and the tallest of the Inquisitors as he should be - he truly is imposing on display and of course will work for Rebels collectors. "You are not in charge here. That seat is mine, not yours. I am the next in line." The Fifth Brother made his Star Wars debut in Rebels and then translated to a live-action appearance in the 2023 Obi-Wan Kenobi series. The first Black Series release of Fifth Brother was taken from the Kenobi series and was included in Wave 8 of the Galaxy Collection alongside other figures from the Kenobi series including Ben Kenobi, Darth Vader and Reva. The Kenobi figures are given an electric blue accent colour for the packaging and this is used in the text and artwork. The Fifth Brother is number 04 in the Kenobi collection following on from Reva from the same wave and preceding the exclusive release of Teeka the Jawa. The Fifth Brother is a full new figure and incorporates his on-screen Inquisitor uniform with a grey undersuit complete with sculpted Imperial insignia on the arms, overlaid with dull black armoured sections. The armour is further detailed with green and grey controls and indicators with a bold silver buckle to his belt. The head is a reasonable likeness to actor Sung Kang in full makeup, with painted black eyes and darker lips. There is a lack of facial shading, relying on the lighting across the sculpted features. He is wearing his trade mark enlarged helmet which encloses the side and back of his head, comes under his chin, then extends out at the top into a dome. More red is incorporated into the helmet to capture the indicator lights at either side and around the back. In Rebels, the Fifth Brother is depicted as a tall character, but this was reduced in Obi-Wan Kenobi to a more generalised height. He should sit half a head taller than Reva and the same again shorter than the Grand Inquisitor but the scaling has got mixed up with The Fifth Brother notably short against both the other Inquisitor figures but also generic characters such as Clone and Storm Troopers. This is a shame as he should be an imposing brute and instead lacks that presence around other figures and a rare miss for Hasbro’s Star Wars team who are usually consistent with character heights (Droids and Wookiees aside). The Fifth Brother has his circular Inquisitorial lightsaber as his sole accessory. This is a chunky piece that is accurate to the screen prop which was adjusted for Sung Kang’s hands. It features an extended plug on the inner section which can be then be slotted into a plug on the Inquisitor’s back as a holstered function. This plug does make it hard to engage fully into the hands, but once gripped it holds secure. You get two translucent red blades to insert allowing both single and dual blade options. These blades are robust enough in their connection and arrive without any obvious warping. Articulation features 19 points in total, all pinless. The legs provide a wide level range of movement while the arms do come up against a restriction by way of the Fifth Brothers fixed shoulder armour. On other figures this has been hinged to allow the arms to be raised - but not here and that keeps the arms from raising anywhere above the level of the shoulder. The figure does feature a dual joint neck which allows some more menacing head positions in keeping with the Fifth Brother’s mannerisms. The torso joint supports the outer limbs for more dynamic fighting stances. The Fifth Brother as a standalone figure is well executed, capturing the likeness of the character and with sufficient articulation to wield the included lightsaber. It is let down by being half an inch too small and scaling poorly with Reva in particular and other characters from Kenobi and beyond. The character will also potentially be of interest for Rebels fans to pose with the Ghost crew - and he will also slip comfortably into a display with Cal Kestis with the two of them facing off in one of the supporting novels to Jedi: Survivor. Hasbro and Playmates have today shared a joint press release that confirms an agreement has been struck for Playmates to develop and distribute products from the Hasbro-owned Power Rangers license. Reading between the lines, this seems to indicate the end of the Lightning Collection and the future of Power Rangers toys aligned more to the 'kid-targeted' Playmates figure format as seen recently with the short-lived Star Trek line and the more successful Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. Collector figures will likely now sit with Super7 and their Ultimates series as per the arrangement already in place there. There is however a door left ajar with the commentary that Hasbro will retain rights to 'activate the brand' across their Hasbro Pulse channel which may still allow the continuation of selected collector items as exclusives, particularly via events like San Diego Comic-Con PAWTUCKET, R.I.—April 22, 2024— Hasbro, a leading toy and game company, today announced a global licensing agreement with Playmates Toys, a global toy design, development, marketing and distribution company, to produce and distribute POWER RANGERS product. Playmates is debuting its first POWER RANGERS collection with a kid targeted MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS toy line in 2025. "The braver you seem, the more afraid you are." The Third Sister, Reva, as seen during the 2022 Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+, was released in the Star Wars Black Series in 2022 as part of the Galaxy Collection, Wave 8. This wave was the first to feature Kenobi figures and established an ice blue colour for the packaging text and artwork. Reva is number 3 in the Kenobi series following on from Darth Vader and sitting before Fifth Brother from the same wave. Reva is a full new figure and is designed around her on-screen Inquisitor costume worn for the duration of the Kenobi series. This is black in the main but utilises different finishes through the uniform with gloss on the armoured panels vs a duller finish for the clothing elements. There is also a use of grey highlights on the thighs and elbows, as well as component details such as the silver of the belt next to green and red indicator lights - and more silver panels on the shoulder armour. Reva’s cloak is a soft goods piece fastened into the figure under the neck and shoulder and non-removable. It is a similar material to what we have seen on Darth Vader previously and it hangs naturally enough on the 6-inch scaled frame, it just lacks a bit of definition in terms of folds and creases that we would see on the full-size garment. Reva’s likeness to actor Moses Ingram is good, capturing the look of contempt and superiority that she projects for many of her scenes. The facial printing adds depth to the eyes and mouth, but the overall look is a little bit too glossy. The hair is intricately sculpted with plaits and braids running to a ponytail section that trails down over the back of the figure. This is a plug-in piece on the head and a softer plastic so to move when the head is moved. Reva features 19 points of pinless articulation and is extremely mobile in her posing with the legs completely unrestricted thanks to the use of soft goods, and the arms enabled with butterfly shoulders and a hinge mechanism to her shoulder armour. Reva comes with her semi-circular twin-bladed lightsaber with two plug-in red blades. This can be gripped in either hand and then utilised as an unlit saber, a single blade, or the full twin blade option. The included blades in translucent red are secure enough to slot in and out and arrive straight and true from the box. As we see in the show, Reva can holster this on her belt - rather than on her back - and the figure replicates this by means of a small plug on the saber and a socket on the belt. This smaller plug offset from the main blade also makes this circular saber much easier for Reva to hold compared to some of the others we have seen. Reva also features her split blade, as seen once it has been cut in half by Darth Vader. These are essentially individual hilts in black with silver highlights and with a plug-in blade option for each. Rather than use the same blades as the main saber, Hasbro has included a second pair of blades which feels excessive considering all four blades are interchangeable across all the saber parts. As a figure release, Reva has all the right attributes with a well-articulated and proportioned Inquisitorius armoured body, a head sculpt with a great likeness, good articulation, and appropriate accessories - if not almost a little excessive. At the time of writing, she remains easily accessible from retailers but is starting to sell through driven also by her compatibility with Baylan Skoll and the ability to increase that figure's height by donating parts from Reva. “Die Jedi dogs! Oh, what did I say?” It has been quite a wait for our next Separatist Droid release in the Star Wars Black Series with the original B1 Battle Droid figure having been around since 2019 and having had a number of variant releases. While we got a MagnaGuard in 2023, it is 2024 that will really expand our Battle Droid ranks with the releases of the Destroyer Droid and the B2 Super Battle Droid. The Super Battle Droid’s first outing is as part of a Hasbro Pulse exclusive 2-pack, a set featuring the brand new Super Battle Droid figure and also another re-use of the B1 Battle Droid, albeit with an implanted C-3PO head to recreate those scenes from the Geonosis arena. The set has arrived ahead of the planned 2024 packaging update, so still features a box with a slanted side. It has a full window to display the figures, and behind the figures sits not simply a plain grey cardboard insert but a grey insert that carries illustrations of Geonosis. The set is part of the Attack of the Clones Galaxy Collection so uses the assigned deep red colouring on the text and artwork. However, it is not a numbered releases so the artwork does not connect to any other releases. The C-3PO figure is pretty much the Geonosis Battle Droid as seen in 2020 but with the Droid head removed and Threepio’s head transplanted in its place - exactly as it occurred in the movie. This connection has been done by way of a new neck section that converts the large Protocol Droid head into the slimline skeletal neck of the Battle Droid. The Threepio head is not the one we have seen in the line to date, with a slightly smaller sizing and certain profile differences - particularly the lower jaw. This may indicate an Attack of the Clones C-3PO is on the cards as a future release. Threepio’s head is a dull grey finish with painted yellow eyes and some green weathering over the base grey that gives a mossy look. The Battle Droid body is cast in red/brown with painted-on weathering in dark brown and extending across the body and much more intensive compared to the original Geonosis Droid release. There are also silver component parts and a couple of silver scratches to further weather the body. The backpack is included as is the blaster rifle both identical also to the original release. And like the other releases, the blaster can be holstered on the backpack by way of a plug and socket configuration. Articulation is 16 points in total, with the joints created within the design of the droid with rounded connections at each of the main joints to create the articulation. The head features a rotation and pivot which allows Threepio to look around and up and down, although the weight of the head vs the very slim neck does see the head loll forward at times. The B1 Battle Droid body has always carried with it some stability issues due to its slim nature, and while this C-3PO variant feels more solid and with more defined ratchet functionality in some of the joints - it remains tentative when posed, particularly with a top-heavy design now thanks to the larger Protocol Droid headpiece. While C-3PO as a Battle Droid is a novelty, the star of the set is very much the B2 Super Battle Droid. This full new figure cuts an impressive profile standing at 16cm height and taller than other key AOTC characters like Obi-Wan and Padme. The droid is also bulky with a broad chest and with the head sunk into the shoulder armour. The legs and arms look slimline face-on but are broad in depth which allows them to remain stable and secure once posed. The droid is a grey finish at its base but is overlaid with metallic hues around the joints and exposed workings. This version also gets an exclusive ‘weathered’ finish with brown dirt splashes across the legs, mid-section and chest. It is confirmed the single release will be a cleaner finish to differentiate the two. Articulation is all built into the droid's construction, and like the B1 figure the joints are circular and industrial but much more robust. There are 15 points of articulation, predominantly supporting the arm and leg movement but with a torso ball joint to help pose the central trunk of the figure. There is plenty of posing options available including the iconic Super Battle Droid advance pose with the blaster arm outstretched and firing. While there are no accessories, Hasbro has built in a couple of removable panels with the head and chest sections coming away from the body and revealing the inner workings of the droid within as sculpted components and with paint apps such as the large central red ‘eye’ and further red and white indicators and components within the chest section. The engineering of these panels is impressive with a flush fit when in place and no extensive use of pegs or sockets to hold them in place. As a set, we are met with the Hasbro Pulse RRP of £49.99 which is in line with two single-figure releases. The set is not a required purchase for those collecting 'in box' and lining up the Attack of the Clones artwork with the set not being numbered and having no direct connection to any other releases. The C-3PO is very scene-specific and almost a ‘novelty’ release and the set may have benefitted more from having the head be swappable with a standard B1 to allow an army-building option. The set will sell on the strength of the Super Battle Droid which is one of my favourite figures of the Black Series already and a strong contender for release of the year even though it's only April. The B2 Droid has no apparent flaws with a great sculpt, extensive paint job and weathering, strong articulation, good stability and some clever removable panels. For those choosing to wait for the single release, I can confirm you won’t be disappointed. NECA and Target's Haulathon program Week 2 kicked off with a new Ultimate Jigsaw Killer figure from Saw including Billy the Puppet and trike. The set is only going to be sold through the Haulathon and wont be showing up at Target due to possible licensing issues. "The nature of our mission is secret. You will understand I am sure" Character Toys commitment to the Doctor Who Collector line of figures is impressive, despite the line currently receiving limited retailer support - other than B&M - the team continues to develop new sets and figures, with repaints and remedial tweaks heading into B&M sets and the newer developed figures and sets sold directly from Character to collectors. The latest of these Character Toys Exclusive packs is called ‘Ruins of Skaro’ and is based on the 1979 4th Doctor story, The Destiny of the Daleks. The set features a new release of the highly sought-after ‘Bomb’ Dalek from the story as well as brand-new figures of the Movellans. The set arrives in an outer cardboard sleeve to protect the box. Inside the set features a rectangular window box with a white base colour and blue trim and designs with a TARDIS image at the bottom left. The accent colour of the sets was said to be aligned to different Doctors and eras and the blue here is consistent with the previous 4th Doctor release, the 2023 Deadly Assassin 3-pack. Much of the design principles are dictated by the BBC and this includes the use of the current logo, which is actually very much aligned to the 4th Doctor era with the diamond backdrop. The rear of the box features the now standard, extensive write-up of the story on which the set is based as well as production notes and background info on the props.A central insert shows the figures in a diorama setting. Further diamond call outs are then used around the box to confirm the contents and the 5.5-inch scale. The original Destiny ‘Bomb’ Dalek was released in 2009 as part of a 4th Doctor Adventure set, and it has not been released since, with Character choosing to include a pair of standard Destiny Drones in their 2022 History of the Daleks set that marked the 1979 story. This 2024 re-release uses the same Classic Dalek base as the original as well as the light grey base colour scheme and painted black trim across the base, roundels, and central panels. 2024 left vs 2009 right On this version the front oval between the gun and sucker arm is also painted black, it was left grey on the original release, and there is also silver weathering around the base. Both versions are accurate to Destiny and it is a neat way of keeping some level of rarity to the original release while giving others the chance to own the figure. 2024 left vs 2009 right The bombs are painted in yellow with red caps and are glued into the central mesh in a reasonably regular design. The original had a bit more of a uniform distribution, this 2024 version has a few haphazard placements nearer the front - but again this is by design and in line with the original props. The Dalek features the usual level of articulation with the eye stalk moving up and down within its socket and the gun and sucker arm being articulated with a ball joint with a wider range of movement. The dome also swivels and the figure retains the lower wheels under the base. The Movellans are brand new figures for the Doctor Who line, and Character have created a base female body which then can be used to create two different Movellan warriors which remains perfectly in keeping with their Android ancestry. The bodies are predominantly an off-white colour with variations of tone and finish, with the use of a pearlescent finish on the legs and around the neck and chest. The belt and boot trims are painted in silver with tools and instruments added to the belt in black with red and yellow switches, and to the shoulders with a yellow and silver finish. The heads are different in sculpt and skin tone with painted eyes and mouth. This is not the facial printing we see on other lines, but it is neat and tidy and ensures the new figures remain aligned to all those that have gone before since 2005 essentially moving the line to a retro look to match itself circa 20 years earlier. The hair pieces are the same and attached separately to the head, they feature a grey plaited design trimmed in silver. Each Movellan features the same 15 points of articulation with the first use (as far as I can tell) of non-pinned elbows. These elbow joints hugely enhance the overall look of the figure, but have less movement with a limited bend that doesn’t get anywhere close to 90 degrees. The Movellans also get the newer ball joint shoulders, but lose any waist articulation. Leg joints remain pinned at the knees and there is a thigh cut and pinned hip above them, but no ankle articulation. Despite this, they are simple to pose and hold themselves in either neutral or semi-dynamic stances. Accessories are a pair of Movellan blaster weapons that include a grey surround and translucent pink cone-shaped emitter. They fit over either of the Movellan hands with the hands gripping onto a central grip within. When not in use a slot on the side of the weapon allows them to be hung on the Movellan’s belt by way of an extended peg. The last element of the set is a return to the diorama inserts we have seen on some older sets. The box inside is a replication of the Movellan ship and will work as a display piece, although it does feature plain cardboard sides. The set is another wonderful addition to the Who range and has clearly been created by a fan for the fans. There are also innovations in the line with new articulation options without straying too far from the overall aesthetic we have invested in since 2005. While there have been some price comparisons particularly - and unfairly - to the B&M sets which are a very different proposition in terms of development costs. The £39.99 price tag equates to £13.33 per figure which is not at all out of line with other figures of a similar size and decor, and had the set been split up and single-carded at that RRP there would likely have been little complaint. A worthy addition to the Doctor Who line, and enhances existing figures like the Destiny of the Daleks release of Romana. It also provides us with a new alien species to expand the collection and a re-release (but variant) rare Dalek thrown into the mix. Revealed as part of the NECA and Target Haulathon program, week 2, is this new Gargoyles release of Detective Broadway, the "Silver Falcon".
