"We got a breach! They're coming in the airlock!" In 2021 Disney Parks and Shop Disney launched a range of Star Wars Creatures as part of the Galaxy's Edge merchandise line. The range included plush releases of creatures like the Wampa, Loth Cat, and Kowakian Monkey Lizard - but also more sculpted 'action figure' creatures with a Mynock, Dewback and the figure we are looking at here, the Krykna Spider. The Creatures from Galaxy's Edge releases were not scaled at any particular size with the Krykna one of the smallest of the releases and therefore a fit with both the Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection for those who wanted to expand their collection. The Creatures are sold with an outer 'crate' carry case and the items themselves simply feature a tag onto which is their details including homeworld - Attolon in the case of the Krykna. This release also comes with sound and movement and the tag also carries details of accessing the two AA batteries by sliding off the large upper dome section. The Krykna is a hard plastic cast piece with eight legs connected into the main body. The piece is a decent likeness to the spider we see in Rebels and with a look that fits with both animated and liveaction collections. Paint work is basic but does enough to replicate the mottled white finish of the Krykna with painted black eyes sitting under the bulk of the main body. There are a few visual issues with the plastic seams visible where parts connect or where they've been cast. You can also see the speaker holes round the back for the sound effects and there is also copywrite embossed text on the legs and a very intrusive numbered code printed on one of the rear legs in dark grey. The legs are not jointed ias such n terms of articulation, so the figure has no direct posing options. In stead the Krykna is meant to have a walking action which is activated by a button on the reverse of the figure. The 'walking action' is more of a vibrating action with each leg vibrating in its socket. That means there is no directional walking movement and just a wobble on the spot. The sound effects that come with it is also disappointing and lacks volume despite how large the speaker box appears to be. Scale wise the Krykna only reaches the shoulder of a standard Black Series release. The Krykna spiders on Attolon wre larger than the Rebels crew, so the Disney Parks Krykna is suited more to 3.75 inch collections. Of course the Krykna are not the same Spiders as faced by Mando and Grogo on Maldo Kreis, but there are similarities and it is not significantly out of place to pose your Krykna with the Knobby White Ice Spiders from either the Black Series or VIntage Collection. The Krykna originally retailed at £19.99 and it is now being discountined and sold through Disney Outlet at half that price. While the other plush releases offer something different for fans young and old, there is an opportunity missed for the likes of the Krykna and the Dewback with a definite gap in the market for lower price point but larger creatures to fit with Black Series collections. Tamashii Nations have made a May the 4th announcement that they will be re-releasing four of their S.H. Figuarts Star Wars figures from the Original Trilogy. The figures will be Darth Vader, C-3PO, R2-D2 and a Stormtrooper and each will be tweaked and improved vs the original version - although there is no clarity on what improvements we may see. We have another Usagi Yojimbo figure joining the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cartoon Series with the newly announced Ultimate Samurai Adventure Usagi Yojimbo. Usagi features two heads, alternative ears and hands and a selection of weapons and a flag. He even features a figure of a Tokage. It comes in a VHS inspired Ultimate box with opening front cover and is a Target US exclusive. The 4th Week of Haulathon Action Figure reveals saw a change on previous weeks with all three figures previewed or fully revealed in the week via the NECA social media channels. They were again all Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles related with the Business Suit Casey Jones and Foot Soldier and Mirage Comics Kirby the two that had already seen a full reveal. They were joined by the TMNT Mirage Comics Baxter Stockman a figure long awaited in the line after previews in 2023. Baxter will come with an alternative head, alternative hands, his computer, a tiny building and a new Mouser. At last, the master of mechanical madness arrives in action figure form. “I'm a simple man making his way through the galaxy. Like my father before me.” When Boba Fett returned to the Star Wars Saga in 2021, Hasbro went into overdrive with Boba Fett figures across the Black Series in 2022 revisiting some of his other looks such as the disguise from War of the Bounty Hunters, the cartoon look from Droids!, and the original Prototype armour pre-Empire Strikes Back. There was also a set of figures based on his return, a trio of releases that shared parts but reflected the three stages of his return. After the Tusken Raider Boba Fett from his return from the desert, we got a fully re-armoured Boba Fett to reflect his final look from The Mandalorian, and most significantly his step into his own series The Book of Boba Fett. Shortly after this release, the gap between the desert gear and the refurbished armour was filled with a Deluxe release of Boba Fett in his reclaimed, but battle-worn armour as seen when he met Mando on Tython at the Jedi Ruins. This set was an exclusive at Walmart in the US and sold through the Fan Channel elsewhere. As a deluxe release, it arrived in the wider box, but with the usual slanted side for the artwork. This Fett was badged under The Mandalorian collection using the deep orange colouring on the artwork. He is number 22 in the collection sitting between the Deathwatch Mandalorian and the New Republic Security Droid. The base figure is identical to the BOBF Throne Room release, with a varied paint job and parts here are also shared with the Tusken Raider Boba Fett - notably the upper legs, skirt and belt - and with the Cobb Vanth release from the same Season of the Mandalorian with the use of the same helmet, backpack and gauntlets. The figure is a good recreation of Fett’s new get-up on Tython as he quickly dons his armour over his Tusken robes. This is executed on the figure with an upper torso overlaid with a sleeve for the chest armour inclusive of a collar to depict the robes underneath. The arms are plain brown and incorporate the shoulder armour which sits under the outcrop of the chest section. The gauntlets fit onto the elbow joint with the right-hand side having wiring and pipework in a softer white plastic that extends up the arm and behind the shoulder piece. The lower section of the figure features the voluminous Tusken robes, but with adjustments to the lower legs as these now feature the knee armour. While the lower body is fairly plain in paintwork, cast or coloured in a flat colour of brown or grey - with yellow for the knee pads - the upper sections are more extensive in decor. The chest armour is green, but scratched and with peeling paint revealing the silver beneath - even the decal application has some wear and tear in the upper right corner. A similar level of weathering is added to the gauntlets while the belt has details added in the form of bronze-painted ammunition. The shoulder armour still features the Mythobeast symbols, but these are also weathered and ‘scratched’ with silver paintwork. The same Temura Morrison head has been used across all of the Disney+ era Boba Fett releases, and the likeness her is great as is the facial printing - but the look is thrown considerably with the figure trying to replicate the damage from his time in the Sarlac pit. The intention here is good and accuracy to the screen look is important, sadly the end result merely looks like Boba has been doing some painting and has splashed his face with white paint. The helmet is a good fit over the head and like the armour features extensive wear and tear paint decor over the usual green and burgundy panels. The range finder is articulated and swings down over the black gloss visor. And the dent in the helmet remains in situ. The look is finished with the jetpack, coloured in the Return of the Jedi scheme with a blue prominent colour that is perhaps too bright vs what we see on screen. The jetpack also features cream sections as well as yellows, reds and a green finish to the rocket itself. Over this, we have more weathering and wear in silver with a large patch of silver across the central section recreating the repair from the damage sustained in the battle of the Pit of Carkoon. The fit of the jet pack remains an issue, with a central peg and two guidance pegs not really long enough to hold it securely in place. Other accessories include Boba Fett’s blaster and blaster rifle. The blaster is relatively simple in its design, but quite delicate considering the scale with individual barrels and sites and a painted brown stock. This can be held in the right hand or secured in the working holster. The larger weapon is a bit more robust in its construction with a thick ridged barrel with a set of sites over the top. The offset grip is colored in brown and the trigger and some controls then coloured silver. It is trickier to engage in Fett’s grip due to its shape, and the hold here is not as secure. The figure can get into two-handed poses with this larger weapon, but the left hand is a bit too open to create a secure grip at the other end also. Articulation is well incorporated into the figure sculpt with much of the joints hidden from immediate view apart from the elbows. We have about 23 joints in total with Boba Fett benefitting from some additional swivel joints the boot and forearm cuts due to the use of shared parts. His build and bulky legs restrict a fair bit of lower movement but he is perfectly stable once posed. The arms are more wide ranging with some neat engineering of the shoulder armour allowing it to retract under the chest sleeve when the arms are raised. This allows Boba to outstretch his arms fully if you want to pose him firing either his blasters or his wrist weaponry. You also do get some additional articulation as mentioned with the helmet range finder, and a pair of moveable thrusters on the jetpack allowing final tweaks when posing. You can also detach the rocket from the jetpack. There is nothing visually wrong with this Tython Ruins release of Boba Fett and he is a great match to the onscreen scenes save a bit of colour variation on the jetpack which is probably too blue. The accessories are also accurate to the scenes on Tython and work reasonably well with the figure. The Deluxe status is probably the biggest issue considering we have had Boba Fett with Jetpack and Blasters as a standard boxed (and priced) release in the past. Hasbro put the Deluxe requirement down to paintwork complexity which I can understand, but we really needed that box filling out a bit more to add some value - whether that be additional weapons like the explosives he uses, or effect pieces for the jetpack or the flame thrower - pieces we know already exist courtesy of the Deluxe Return of the Jedi Boba Fett. The figure has also suffered with Boba Fett overload with seven releases of the same character across 2022 and that has reduced demand leaving the Tython Ruins Boba Fett relatively well available some 2 years later and at a much reduced RRP. NECA are expanding their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mirage Comics series with the Target Exclusive release of Kirby. "I've never met a real Mandalorian. Heard stories. I know you're good at killing.” As a character, Cobb Vanth originated as a character from the Star Wars: Aftermath trilogy of novels a piece of work bridging the gap between the Fall of the Empire and the start of the First Order. He would then make his live-action deputy in 2020 in The Mandalorian played by Timothy Olyphant. In the events of The Mandalorian, Cobb Vanth is now the Marshal of Mos Pelgo and is wearing the armour of Boba Fett, scavenged from the Jawas. It is this iteration of the character that Hasbro has translated to the Star Wars Black Series badging it as a Deluxe release on the level of paint application and complexity of the design rather than the figure sizing or volume of accessories. Cobb Vanth as the Marshal is a Galaxy Collection release and number 18 in The Mandalorian series. As a deluxe release, he wasn’t released as part of a wider wave but the artwork still combines with the figures on either side for a bigger montage image. Cobb fits in between the deluxe release of Mando and Grogu on Maldo Kries and the single release of Ahsoka Tano. The Marshal is a full newly developed figure with some elements of the Boba Fett armour shared across the New Republic era Boba Fett figures, and initially that of the Tython Ruins Fett which was also released in 2022. Those shared elements appear to be the helmet, backpack and forearms with everything else new for Cobb Vanth and aligned to his outfit. The base costume is a plain torso in orange-red which is then covered over with a softer sleeve for the Boba Fett chest armour - complete with a decal emblem on the right-hand side - and with the shoulder pauldrons attached so they sit over the shoulders. The arms are the same colour of red plastic and extend down past the elbow joint and to a section of the forearm that then slots into Boba Fett’s bracers. Vanth is then wearing a pair of plain brown trousers with lighter brown boots and with the knee of the right leg incorporating Fett’s rocket launcher. The Marshal has two belts an upper tan-coloured piece and a lower orange-red gun slingers version. This second belt also features a hook that we might see morally for a lightsaber. There is no obvious use for this other than to allow the helmet to be secured when its being held under Cobb's arm which is in itself very clever. The ensemble is completed with a red scarf using a deeper red than the costume and sitting as an individual piece - although it can’t be removed without popping off the head first. The paintwork, the main driver behind the deluxe status, is impressive in terms of the weathering and battle wear across the various elements of Fett’s armour but the rest of the body lacks any weathering or detailing aside from a beige clip on the figure’s left leg. The backpack is the most decorated item of the whole figure with varying shades of blue, red, white and sandy yellow as well as more wear and battle damage. It connects to Cobb Vanth in the same way it does on the Fett figures with a central peg and two aligning pegs above. While the Boba Fett figures do have some issues in keeping the jetpack connected the fit on Cobb Vanth feels a touch sturdier. The jetpack features a removable rocket if you want to display the figure after firing the weapon, and articulation on the jets. The head sculpt is a decent likeness to Olyphant with a sculpted beard and hair all included in the head sculpt. Facial printing is ok but only picks out the eyes and doesn’t add any depth to the skin tone or other features. The helmet, another shared part, is cast in green with the usual Boba Fett decor of the burgundy trim and black visor and the same battle damage as the rest of the armour - including the dent on the left-hand side. It also features an articulated range finder in silver with a black tip that can swing down over the right-hand side of the visor. The fit over the Cobb Vanth head is good, not too tight and not so loose as to fall off or look misaligned when posed. Cobb features two blasters, a smaller pistol in plain black that can be holstered in the belt or wielded in the right hand. There is then a larger blaster rifle which features more paint apps over the black body with the cloth-wrapped grip and barrel section painted out in white paint. Articulation is extensive with 21 points in total with both butterfly shoulders and a dual joint neck. The extra couple of joints are a rotation on the forearms as a result of the way the Boba Fett gauntlets connect to the Cobb Vanth body. You can also add in the body articulation the rang finder joint and the swivel on the twin jets of the jetpack. The arms have a full range of motion with the flexible pipework and the shoulder pauldrons moving with the arms. Similarly, the legs have a full range of motion including natural kneeling poses. As a release, the Deluxe Cobb Vanth has minimal flaws. He is a well-designed figure, a good replication of The Marshal’s look on screen including the proportions of the body so that he doesn’t just look like a replica of Boba Fett with a new head sculpt. I like how his taller frame changes the aesthetics of the armour, but the armour doesn’t conform to the body shape and is still consistent to how it was originally meant to be worn - looking ill-fitting in places as it should. The weathering and battle wear is impressive and a pretty good match to the corresponding Boba Fett figure from the Tyhhon Jedi Ruins who is essentially wearing the exact same armour. The accessories are OK, with the helmet and backpack, in particular, working with the overall figure to good effect. The only issue is whether the paintwork detail justified the Deluxe price tag and the answer to that was potentially no in terms of the collectors voting with their wallets with the figure remaining readily available at the time of this review and at a significantly reduced RRP. This latest Batmobile release from McFarlane measures 20 inches long and features an opening cockpit to seat a standard 7-inch scale McFarlane figure (sold separately).
