NECA have shared details of two new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles releases from the IDW Last Ronin comic book series. The Ultimate Donatello has been doing the rounds via a Target listing for some time but is now fully confirmed to include an alternative head, alternative hands, a removable hat, Bo-Staff, and a Hamato Clan shashimono (banner). The Ultimate 'Flashback' Michelangelo will also include an alternative head, and hand options, and for Mikey he has his nunchucks. Both figures are packed in the closed Ultimate packaging with an opening front cover. These are not exclusive, but they have been showing up already at Target stores in the US where there may have been a 'first to market' agreement. The details of Jazwares Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadrn Series 6 releases are starting to trickle through via online retailers. We were already aware that the two largest releases of Series 6 would be the Assault Class release of The Ghost, and the Dreadnaught Class AT-TE. NECA have revealed this brand new 7-inch scale action figure of Dr. Hannibal Lecter as seen in the Prison Escape from The Silence of the Lambs. The figure includes three different head options, a baton accessory, and it also comes with a prison cell diorama base. The figure is not an Ultimate release and is a reworked version of the 2007 clamshell release which is more of a posed statue than a fully articulated figure with movement limited to the head and right arm. It will come in the Ultimate-style closed box packaging with an opening front cover. The figure is already hitting Walmart stores in the US where it is a 'first to market' exclusive as part of their Horror Fan Shop event presented by Bloody Disgusting. The mysterious antagonist of The Acolyte was unveiled during Episode 5 and shortly afterward it was announced that the helmet worn by the initially entitled 'Stranger' and as seen in some of the trailers & earlier episodes, will be released as a Star Wars Black Series roleplay helmet. “In my timeline, everything proceeded correctly, my entire life, until Thanos attacked our ship”. Richard E. Grant’s Classic Loki, as seen in the first season of Loki on Disney+, was released in the Marvel Legends series in 2022. He was part of a Disney+ wave featuring a Khonshu BAF from Moon Knight. The wave also featured He Who Remains from Loki as well as Agent Jimmy Woo from WandaVision and a batch of What If? Releases included Howard the Duck, Red Skull, and a couple of Zombies. The Khonshu BAF wave was one of the first to see a switch to plastic-free packaging so there is no figure window instead the contents are illustrated on the box. Classic Loki on screen was exactly that, a direct homage to Loki’s comic book costume complete with green tights and a yellow cloak. Regardless of how you feel about that look, the all-new Classic Loki figure recreates it perfectly with the deep green of the base outfit contrasted by bright yellow boots, trunks, and cloak. And not too bright as the figure is then weathered to give it a dirty and worn finish as befits his place trapped in The Void. Classic Loki is fortunate to be given two head sculpts, a rarity for Disney+ releases. These are both packed with cardboard protective covers to keep the horns on Loki’s helmet as straight as possible. These are quite soft plastic and will warp if mishandled. The face is surrounded by a yellow hood that connects to the main outfit, and we have two fantastic likenesses to Richard E. Grant with one a neutral look and the other grinning. Both are among some of the best we’ve seen in the Legends line with facial printing enhancing what is a very strong sculpt. The eyes are particularly impressive as is the painted mouth and teeth of the grinning version. Loki’s other accessories are magic effects with a repurposed pair of forearm wraps quite often seen on Scarlet Witch figures, but now in a translucent green. These are quite soft but hold their shape sufficiently to encircle the arms as needed. The second set is a pair of hands that have the magic effect built into the palms as a mass of green magical energy, these are perhaps less impactful for display as they lack definition and it can appear as though Loki is simply holding some weird green plant. Articulation is pinless and 19 points in total with Loki missing out on butterfly shoulders, although he doesn’t really need them. The cloak is a fairly substantial softer plastic piece that will stop Loki from sitting or kneeling, but other than that his options are extensive, particularly with a focus on either magic casting or expressive gestures the latter usually coupled best with the grinning head. Loki as a recreation of the onscreen character and costume is near perfect, and benefits from extras that can be considered rarities nowadays in Marvel Cinematic releases - an additional head sculpt, and a layer of paint weathering. Both head options are spectacular and the only particularly minor letdown is the magic effect hands which don’t quite work as perhaps they could. Loki’s downfall as a figure is a combination of the plastic-free packaging, an over-saturation of Hasbro figures in 2022, and a costume that perhaps sat too far into the comics to sit comfortably with the more realistic MCU styling. “You showed me that being a hero isn't just for people who can fly or shoot lasers out of their hands.” The Marvel Legends Kate Bishop figure, as seen in the Hawkeye DIsney+ series, was a 2022 release and part of the Infinity Ultron Build-a-figure wave. The wave also included a new Clint Barton Hawkeye figure from the same series as well as lead characters from the other Disney+ shows of the year including Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel. The wave was a window-box wave with each release carrying its own series logo on the box front and with differing cardbacks for the figures. The Kate Bishop figure is based on her final outfit from Hawkeye and is a new pinless figure made up of dark grey trousers trimmed with thin purple piping, and a purple jacket with black zipper and trim. The Jacket features a textured finish and darker purple panels down either side as well as black cuffs and a silver and purple shoulder panel on the left arm. The outfit also features a black belt with utility pouch, and Kate’s quiver which is kept in place with an over-the-shoulder black strap. The head sculpt is one of the stronger Disney+ likenesses with a recognisable look of actor Hailee Steinfeld thanks to the facial print tech. The hairpiece is cast in dark brown and is pulled back into a ponytail, but with strands of hair down each side framing the ears. Kate is provided with two sets of hands, a pair of gripping fists, and a pair of open hands. These can be combined with the bow accessory to allow Kate to be posed with her bow in either hand and with the other hand in an arrow drawing position. The bow itself is a more standard design than the compound bows we’ve seen on previous Clint Barton Hawkeye figures and it includes two painted wood look panels on the outer frame. The string is still fashioned by a piece of semi-rigid plastic which has some give, but not much. And there are no single arrow accessories only the group molded and fixed into the quiver. Articulation includes 20 points of articulation with the important bow-drawn positions supported thanks to a full set of arm joints including butterfly shoulders. Kate is also able to have her arm reach back over her shoulder to mimic drawing an arrow. She can also kneel and be posed in action stances or even running poses with the help of an aftermarket stand. The Infinity Ultron Wave in general is a strong offering of Disney+ characters. Within the wave, Kate Bishop is at the top end quality-wise in terms of overall finish with a well-proportioned and well-articulated body complete with neat and accurate decor and a strong head sculpt. The accessories are OK, but archers are still struggling with their bow accessories, and with no single arrows included we tend to be limited to posing her as though she has just loosed an arrow or is about to draw one. “When you do what I do for a living, it’s just a game of managing loss, right?” Hawkeye has not had many figures to date in the Marvel Cinematic space of Marvel Legends, and his 2022 release from the Hawkeye Disney+ series is only the fourth different costume after earlier figures from Avengers, the Quantum Suit from Endgame, and the Ronin suit. This Clint Barton was part of the Disney+ wave that included the Infinity Ulton BAF and was also inclusive of the Kate Bishop figure from Hawkeye as well as key central characters from other shows like She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight. The wave is a window box release with varied logos appropriate to the show on the box front and variations in figure backing cards. Hawkeye is a new figure, with no obvious parts carried forward from any of his prior releases. He is in his suit from the finale of Hawkeye which is predominantly black on the legs and torso and with purple panels on the chest and arms paying homage to his comic book look. Paintwork is very limited with no obvious detail work and while the suit does feature sculpted clips and clasps, they are all simply left in the base colour. The head is also new and one of the best Jeremy Renner sculpts to date with an amazing level of realism worked into the sculpt and the applied facial printing complete with battle scars and sutured head wound. The hairpiece also does a good job of recreating Hawkey’s look from the series. Sadly the proportions of the figure overall are not quite right, and he does have a particularly long and thick neck which detracts from the amazing head sculpt, he kind of looks like two figures kitbashed into one with a very basic body with virtually zero paintwork to a stunning head sculpt. Like most of the prior Hawkeye releases, the figure comes with a bow and this is also new and a more traditional look compared to the compound bow packed with his Avengers releases - it would go on to be repacked with the updated Ronin figure from 2023. The bow itself is black with a single painted grip which is sculpted to look like wrapped material. The string is a fairly rigid plastic piece that will bend marginally but not into a full bow-drawn position. Hawkeye is also supplied with a quiver, a single piece that slots into a socket on his back with no obvious strapping which is in keeping with the Disney+ suit. The quiver, like the bow, is gloss black and with no added paint detail. The arrows themselves are fixed in position. Clint is very well articulated with a fully pinless body and 21 points of articulation. The slimline suit allows for a full range of motion including kneeling positions and poses with his bow in a drawn position. Articulation is aided by two sets of hands, the first being a pair of clenched fists for hand-to-hand combat. The other pair is a right gripping hand for the bow, and the left a splayed hand to replicate an arrow having just been released. While there is no arrow included the bow itself can be displayed with the figure either just having fired an arrow, or about to draw one from the included quiver. Hawkeye is sadly slightly shortchanged by his Disney+ figure and is overshadowed by Kate Bishop who is a much more complete figure - although both need better bows and loose arrow accessories. The Clint Barton release also needed more detail in the suit, and a better-proportioned neck which would have then framed the gorgeous head sculpt and made this a very impressive figure overall. "Your evil is my good. I'm Sutekh the Destroyer. Where I tread, I leave nothing but dust and darkness. I find that good." As the 15th Doctor's first season comes to a close, we mark the return of Sutekh with a look at the various Character Options 5-inch figures that have been released based on his original serial from 1975, the Pyramids of Mars. It was 2009 when the first Pyramids of Mars releases arrived in Character's Doctor Who line with the release of the 4th Doctor from the 1974 serial, a reworked version of the original 'Robot' 4th Doctor with a new waistcoat, long coat, and an updated paint job. The Doctor was also packed with his sonic and the TARDIS console piece. The figure would be re-packed in 2015 under the Underground Toys US-specific 'Diamond' packaging. And in 2017 it got a third lease of life as part of a B&M Exclusive 3-Pack in the UK alongside K9 and Leela - but without the TARDIS accessory. The Doctor was joined in 2009 by the Servitor Mummy, one of four figures from the Adventures of the Fourth Doctor Set. The set also included the original 4th Doctor Figure, a VOC Robot, and a Destiny of the Daleks bomb-laden Dalek. This release of the Mummy came with a Jackal Head Canopic Jar accessory. Roll on one year to 2010 and the Mummy was given a single release in Wave 2 of the Doctor Who Classic series. The Canopic Jar was updated to an Eagle Head, and inside the jar was an explosive canister accessory. We had to wait until 2012 for the first Sutekh figure in a Pyramids of Mars exclusive 3-pack which also included two new variants of the Mummy figure, now with the gold sash worn by the guardians within the Pyramid itself. The set was exclusive to Forbidden Planet in the UK and distributed by Underground Toys in the US. The Sutekh in the 2012 set was the unmasked version, and we only had to wait another year or so for the masked version to be released. This was part of the biggest and arguably the best Pyramids of Mars set releases by Character. The 'Priory Collector Set' included the masked Sutekh with a light-up eyes feature. He was joined by a brand new figure, Marcus Scarman, and a sarcophagus that opened to reveal a lenticular time vortex. Accessories include more Canopic Jar variants (Monkey & Human) and the Coordinate Selector. The large closed box set also featured a cardboard playset that could be assembled to recreate a scaled version of the Pyramid Rocket. With five key characters/monsters released the Pyramids of Mars collection remains one of the most comprehensive of any classic story and perhaps is short a Sarah-Jane Smith to complete it in full. Sadly, many of the releases were exclusive and therefore limited in volume and some 10-15 years later these will bring a premium on the secondary market if you are wanting to track any of them down. “Jennifer Walters, attorney at law.” The Jennifer Walters She-Hulk figure from the 2022 Disney+ series was released as part of the Infinity Ultron BAF wave of Marvel Legends, a wave that just missed the change to window-less packaging. The wave itself featured a mix of other Disney+ characters such as Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and Hawkeye. She-Hulk is an entirely new figure and one that has considerable shelf presence standing at 7 inches tall (18cm) and towering over most standard characters. She is presented in her final outfit from the show as designed by Luke Jacobson, a close-fitting vest and shorts with a textured finish with a predominantly purple colour trimmed in lighter purple and white panels. These secondary colours are overpainted to the base plastic and the white in particular looks dulled in places and has a few slightly off-line edges. Jen’s green skin tone is a good match to the CGI She-Hulk across her arms and legs with the outfit completed by her white trainers with black trim. The head sculpt is a fantastic likeness to CGI Tatiana Maslanyi as She-Hulk with the same skin tone as the body overlaid with facial printing technology for the eyes and mouth. The hair piece is added on top as an individual piece and is a black base with very subtle green highlights. We do only get the one head, which is fairly standard for these Disney+ releases. But an angry She-Hulk head would have been a fantastic additional extra as this neutral look can look a bit flat in some poses. Articulation is 18 points in total, all pinless, and providing She-Hulk with a full range of motion despite her size but obviously unencumbered by a complex outfit, skirts, cloaks or other paraphernalia. Posing is supported by the provision of two sets of hands allowing a choice between clenched fists or an open palmed position. The latter is perhaps a little too splayed and looks more like an expressionary gesture than maybe it was intended. Overall She-Hulk is a definite highlight of the Disney+ figures to date, and within the Infinity Ultron wave which itself is a strong offering of great figures like Moon Knight, Kate Bishop and Sharon Carter. The figure is not only impressive in height and posture but with a fantastic likeness, a strong recreation of the costume and brilliant articulation. The WESAYSO 'Tree Pusher' Earl Sinclair is a variant of the general Earl body with soft goods construction gear and a hard hat accessory. "So You're Saying The Universe Created A Sitcom Starring Two Avengers?" The Marvel Legends release of Agent Jimmy Woo was a 2022 release, part of the second full Disney+ themed wave of that year, the Khonshu build-a-figure wave. The Khonshu wave was one of the first to see Hasbro move to plastic-free packaging so Jimmy arrives in a windowless box with a posed image of the figure on the cover. The box was badged as a WandaVision release. The figure is a combination of old and new parts with the black-suited legs taken from the existing suited body complete with gloss black shoes. The torso features Jimmy’s white shirt with black tie and a new jacket piece over the top in khaki green with silver zips and fastenings as the only applied paintwork. The head is new and is not particularly flattering to actor Randall Park. The sculpted detail is very soft and they have tried to replicate one of Park’s expressions and ended up with a head that looks a little disfigured from some angles with a crooked mouth and eyebrows. The facial printing does little to improve the base sculpt and the whole finish has that glossy look that further detracts from the intended look. Jimmy features a removable FBI badge on a chain that sits around his neck. It is detailed considering the scale with visible eagle insignia heading up the gold badge. Despite his role in the FBI, Jimmy is not provided with a gun or holster, although that is perhaps in keeping with his portrayal. His sole other accessory is an alternative left hand which is holding his business card. The card itself includes a recreation of the FBI logo in colour and some lines of writing, but too small to be legible. It is fixed in the hand and is reflective of the scene in which Jimmy produces his card as a magic trick. Articulation is pinned on the legs with a wide range of options through the double-jointed knees, but with the usual suited body issues of stability thanks to the angle joints not flattening the feet sufficiently leaving the figure to fall backwards. Overall articulation comes in at 19 points overall, giving Jimmy Woo a fairly extensive repertoire of poses but only a badge and a business card to pose him with. Considering the availability of characters from WandaVision available to Hasbro, Jimmy Woo feels a slightly odd choice but the fact he re-uses existing parts probably went in his favour vs a release of Peitro for example, or Halloween Wanda and Vision. The execution feels half-hearted, as though they had to make Jimmy but didn’t really have any desire to do him justice. While his field outfit is good and supported by his badge, the head is a let down considering he is in a wave that features much more impressive head sculpts like Classic Loki or He Who Remains. There is also a lack of accessories which is in keeping with Jimmy’s role in WandaVision but means his fairly strong impressive articulation options have little to work with.
