“Because we are the Empire's fist. We are stormtroopers. And you can never kill us all. LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE!" When the Galaxy Collection launched in 2020, it brought with it new versions of both Clone Troopers and Imperial Stormtroopers. The new Imperial Stormtroopers were released under the banner of The Mandalorian initially with both Remnant and clean versions. This new Stormtrooper body would go on to be used for more variant Mandalorian troopers like the Artillery and Incinerator Troopers, as well as for the Rogue One Jedha Trooper and in more general Stormtrooper releases like the Starkiller Exclusive Set and in the Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary. Hasbro identified the Stormtrooper as a figure that should be available regularly in the line and this led to the 2024 Archive release of the Imperial Stormtrooper. The Archive Series was envisaged as a re-release line for popular figures, making it ideal for getting the Imperial Stormtrooper back onto store shelves. Rather than a box, it uses a blister card with a grey and black card back that also features a history of the figure on the card back with details of the original release - the aforementioned 2019 release from The Mandalorian. Unlike the Galaxy Series, the Archive blister cards cannot be opened and re-sealed. The Archive Series Stormtrooper is no different to any of those newer body figures that have proceeded it and it uses the now-established Clone/Stormtrooper design of a black body and joints with connecting white closs armour pieces. This significantly reduces the amount of paint needed to minimal areas like the forearms and some detail on the midsection, but makes the transition from amour to what is effectively an under-bodysuit is crisp and clean. Proportions to the Stormtroopers on screen are accurate, although this is modelled more after the more modern Rogue One Stormtrooper props and onward into the likes of The Mandalorian and Andor. It does not feature the holster we saw on the first release. Articulation is pinless and is integrated into the overall aesthetic of the figure so not to have any particular pose or position look unnatural. We have 19 points of articulation in total providing a wide range of opportunities for display including the ability to kneel or sit, or to have the blaster up at eyesight position ready to fire off a shot - with plenty of other options in between. The Stormtrooper holds most positions well and is self-supporting and stable on display. The single accessory is the newer version of the E-11 blaster cast in black and with no further decor added. The component parts are all visible within the sculpt including the various sights and barrels and the side ammo pack position. Our Stormtrooper has been given both left and right trigger hands allowing the Trooper to wield the blaster in either hand, the other mobile enough thanks to the extensive arm joints and butterfly shoulders in particular, to support the barrel in a two-handed position. In a series where Stormtroopers play such a big part for the Original Trilogy movies as well as the more recent Disney+ series, it was a no-brainer to keep the Imperial Stormtrooper available at regular intervals to allow new collectors access and to tempt longer-term collectors into even more troop building. The Archive Collection has been that avenue for these re-releases since its inception in 2019, but the recent dabbling with ‘Best of’ figures as part of the main Galaxy Collection does leave us wondering if this could have taken that route to release. That would have allowed the Galaxy Collection Series for properties other than The Mandalorian (where it sat originally) to expand - particularly when the three Original Trilogy movies are significantly outnumbered by the newer additions to the franchise. Packaging aside, you will not be disappointed with your Imperial Stormtrooper - although he brings nothing new for those who own the figure already other than the expansion of the might of The Empire. Another of the NECA releases initially exclusive to the Haulathon event at Target in the US and globally via the Haulathon website has gone up for general release. The Ultimate Jigsaw Killer figure from Saw, in his red robes and including Billy the Puppet and trike will ship from general stockists in August 2024 and pre-orders are now live . “Guard! This protocol droid might be useful. Fit him with a restraining bolt and take him back to His Excellency's main audience chamber.” The original Gamorrean Guard release from 2018 paved the way for the Deluxe format of larger or more complex figures that we know today. 5 years later, and to mark the 40th Anniversary of Return of the Jedi, the Gamorrean was repacked onto a Kenner-inspired card back and sold as an exclusive release. In the US it was exclusive to Target, while it was available via the Fan Channel retailers outside of the US. While it retained its ‘deluxe’ status in terms of pricing, the card back was the same size as the other 40th Anniversary releases to support in-package collections. The card was based on the original 1983 Kenner card and used the same photo of the Gamorrean and the 1980s Kenner logo.  The card back also followed suit with the original figures, carrying a multi-coloured checklist of some of the other Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary Black Series figures. Our Gamorrean Guard is modelled after their ROTJ appearance with a squat green-skinned muscular body, protected by bronze/brown chest armour and a pair of gunmetal shoulder panels. The armoured sections featured sculpted details as seen on screen with a central circular icon on the Gamorrean’s chest, and other shield-shaped icons across the shoulders. The outfit is completed with a black plastic shoulder and waist strap with silver buckle and a brown skirt section which features a dark brown sculpted waist/groin section covered over with a soft goods fur skirt piece. The fur soft goods work as intended and hold a good shape while also moving with the leg articulation if needed. The head sculpt is the same skin tone as the body with added brown detailing around the eyes, nose and mouth and bone white on the protruding tusks and horns. The guard helmet is a leather brown skull cap with metallic armoured panels featuring sculpted studs and spikes. 2023 version on the left, 2018 version on the right There are no obvious variations between our 2023 40th Anniversary release and the original 2018 other than some minor paint colour differences we would expect to see across two different factory runs some 5-years apart. You can see some weathering changes between the two figures, and the chest appears a touch lighter on the new figure while the green skin is marginally darker. Our Gamorrean features three accessories as seen with the original all of which are seen in various parts of Return of the Jedi so by varying your weapons you can recreate various Gamorrean scenes from Jabba’s Palace. The largest of the weapons is the Vibro-Lance as used by the Gamorrean Guards who try and stop Luke from entering the palace. This is a grey cast piece with only a touch of brown paint at the business end to add weathering. Despite the lack of paint, the cast is crisp and the features of the weapon are clearly defined. It slots into one or both of the Gamorrean’s hands. We then have a pair of axes, the smaller of the two is the weapon of choice for the Gamorreans who escort C-3PO and R2-D2 to Jabba’s Droid workshop, and the Gamorrean standing close to Luke on his arrival in the Throne Room is also carrying the same weapon. The piece itself is simple in design as per the prop with a brown handle and dull grey blade that also features the same brown (rust?) weathering as the Vibro-Lance. The other axe is referred to in reference materials as a Vibro-Axe and is a larger blade connected in two places to a similar wooden shaft with the same brown weathering on its edge. This final weapon is screen-accurate but not clearly seen in ROTJ. It is the same weapon that Kenner released with the original Gamorrean back in 1983, it is also seen most clearly wielded by the Guards in The Force Unleashed video game. Both axes fit into either hand with a secure grip - there are no holstering options built into the figure. Articulation is a standard 16-point system plus an additional 17th point on the jaw which is pinned internally so the mouth can be opened and closed to vary the look of your Gamorrean(s) on display. The other articulation includes pinned joints on the arms and knees but holds a reasonable range of positions considering the bulk of the Gamorrean body. While he won’t sit or kneel, there are sufficient options to wield any of the three weapons in neutral or dynamic stances, and the low centre of gravity makes the Gamorrean an extremely stable figure once posed - including walking or running poses. The Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary was a perfect slot to re-release the Gamorrean Guard back onto the Star Wars Black Series collector market allowing those who missed in 2018 to add the Guard to displays, and those of us that already owned the figure an option to expand our complement of Guards. The figure does show its age in terms of the pinned joints, but otherwise is a strong representation of the onscreen Gamorrean costumes with the ability to vary your Guards thanks to a trio of weapons. There is nothing substantially different here vs the original release, but that was probably never in scope or required considering the Guard's costumes in ROTJ were also fairly identical. NECA has revealed more Beetlejuice releases ahead of the long-awaited sequel arriving this September. We have - as expected - two re-releases of the original NECA 7-inch Beetlejuice figures, one in his iconic striped suit and the other in his tuxedo. Both versions come with a snake accessory as well as the Handbook for the Recently Deceased. These are not the modern fully articulated Ultimate figures. They date from 2009 and are more posed statues than articulated figures with simplified joints in the arms and neck only. These come on new-style blister packaging and are listed to be released in August 2024 for the striped suit Beetlejuice and October 2024 for the tuxedo version. They are both general releases NECA is also re-releasing their TOony Terrors Beetlejuice as originally seen in 2020. It will come on the same Toony Terrors blister card that includes a cut-out bonus background for display. This one is an August 2024 release. This 7" scale Beetlejuice figure comes from the surreal 1980s Tim Burton movie Beetlejuice. He's an obnoxious freelance "bio-exorcist" hired to scare away the living, but secretly he's trying to scheme his way back to life. Determined to make every second of the rest of his life count, he executed a string of clock-themed robberies as the Clock King. “Then rise. Rise, and live again! As my fist of vengeance! As my Moon Knight!” While Moon Knight and Mr. Knight were released in the 2022 Disney+ wave, the BAF they were paired with was the Marvel What If? Infinity Ultron. Khonshu himself was held back to be the BAF of the subsequent Disney wave, split among figures from What If?, Loki, and WandaVision. Khonshu was broken down into 6 component parts for the wave, spread among all of the figures bar Zombie Iron Man. The wave itself would be one of the earliest to use plastic-free packaging and this saw the BAF checklist move from the rear of the box to replace one of the artwork panels on the left-hand side. With the component parts collector, Khonshu assembles in the usual way with the arms legs and head connecting to the main torso piece. The fit on the legs, which connect at the thigh, is the hardest to achieve and may benefit from a bit of gentle heat to tease the legs into the correct position and therefore minimising the gap. Once assembled, Khonshu is an impressive BAF figure by modern standards and measures nearly 8.25 inches (21cm) tall. The core of the figure is cast in an off-white representing aged bandages and includes sculpted wrap detailing and darker brown weathering. The chest piece features a gold crescent moon emblem with a similar colour collar around Khonshu’s neck. Over the body, we have a skirt piece in a similar off white, and inclusive of an orange silver belt. There is then a final set of full robes that run the full length of Khonshu;s body. Khonshu presents an interesting challenge in the execution of the figure in the way his skeletal bird-like head is suspended above his body in the show. Hasbro has tackled this by way of a translucent neckpiece that connects the body to the head. It is perhaps a bit too opaque for the effect it is trying to replicate and features a purple hue. The skull head is bone white in colour with a darker brown wash to enhance the sculpt, particularly in the eye and nose sockets. While he is a larger figure, Khnonshu still features the standard level of Marvel Legends articulation with 18 points in total including dual joint pinless elbows and knees. The only gap is probably butterfly shoulders which may have helped slightly with wielding his staff. The leg articulation is of course restricted by the robes, but there is enough scope for both neutral or more dynamic poses and the joints hold Khonshu in position when posed. The sole accessory is Khonshu’s staff, a piece that is even bigger than him and measures 10.5 inches in length. It is a dark brown/grey plastic with a sculpted design at each end, the top end being the more ornate as the staff opens up to a crescent moon shape with gold highlights. It slips into either hand and with sufficient size, and articulation on the figure, for two-handed posing. Khonshu is one of the more impressive BAFs of recent years, particularly in the MCU line which has struggled in recent years with larger size offerings like Rintrah, and with more regular sized figures often taking up BAF slots. Khonshu offers a central focus for a shelf display alongside the other Moon Knight and Disney+ figures and has little to fault, other than a slightly tough assembly of those legs into the thick thigh joints. While we may be surprised with future releases, there is perhaps a slight disappointment that Khonshu is probably the only Egpgtian deity we will see in the Legends line from Moon Knight - a team-up with Taweret or a battle with Ammit would have been an impressive display. It features cell shading decor and comes with alternative heads, hands, weapons, and Mousers. NECA's Synja Bots 2-Pack from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IDW Comics 'The Last Ronin' line were initially released during the Haulathon event, available via Target in the US and the international Haulathon website. NECA has now confirmed a general release of this pack, with the Haulathon availability a 'first to market' arrangement rather than full exclusivity. McFarlane has shared preview images for their next four releases in their Warhammer 40k line. This new wave features a Space Marine Eliminator, and this new figure includes the first soft goods robes in the line. The full-colour version is an Ultramarine Eliminator alongside the usual unpainted Artists Proof.
