Super7's Deluxe format rollout continues with the reveal of a 'DX' Deluxe Release of their Conan the Barbarian 7-inch figure in his 'iconic pose'. Like most Deluxe releases, these are re-releases of previous Ultimates releases but with a reduced amount of accessories. Conan therefore will come with just his sword and be priced at $35 in the US. "Beyond the circle of light, there are countless slaves to darkness who know nothing but hate and madness. They look on the Imperium and see only the possibility of fire and death -- and they find that good." To mark the release of the Warhammer 40k video game, Dark Tide, McFarlane released a wave of their Warhammer 40k figures in 2022 taking inspiration from some of the characters in the game. The Darktide releases introduced the Astra Militarum or Imperial Guard into the McFarlane collection. This was done using the same principle as the Space Marines and Orks by creating a general figure body onto which varying parts, components, and paintwork can be added to individualise the character. The Traitor Guardsman Variant was a US Gamestop exclusive, utilising the main release Traitor Guardsman but adding a variant head sculpt. In the UK the figure would have a more general release via the Bandai UK distribution network. Interestingly it is not marked as a Gold Label Exclusive on the box as we usually see for Retailer Exclusives and it is packed into the same window box as per all the WH40k general releases from its inception in 2020 and through until the 2024 releases where the packaging aesthetic was updated. This general box uses a dark gothic-inspired design personalised to the figure on the side art and the rear of the box only. There is no background text or overview of the figure - only images - with the figure itself set against a deep yellow card back. The figure is strapped tightly into an inner tray with several clear ties to negotiate to release him. The figure stand is glued onto the card back in its own bubble, meaning if you do want to use the stand the packaging will be damaged when unpacked. The Variant Traitor Guard uses the exact same body as the mainline release with the Guardsman base body in a very dark green-hued plastic and overlaid with added Chaos armoured parts in a matt black - mainly around the chest, shoulders and forearms. The central belt and chest strap is a darker brown finish and painted across its entirety in the same colour with no change in decor between the strap/belt itself and the pouches and grenades that it holds. Like the standard release, we also get the Chaos Pentagram logo on the right side of the chest. The head is also essentially the same base as the main release, but with the face plate replaced with a gas mask of sorts. This is matt black like the spiked plumed helmet, but with a trio of green almost fluorescent eyes and a breathing filter with a similar green central panel. The shared Guardsman body has 19 points of articulation with double-jointed knees and elbows as well as the addition of butterfly shoulders. The lower legs work ok, but despite the toe articulation and double joint knees there is not enough hip movement to allow for any kneeling or crouching positions - leaving your Guardsman posed in more generic upright stances only. The arms are however impressive in their movement with the butterfly joint making a big difference, although if you take it too far it pops out a bit too easily. The Traitor Variant has a pair of weapons, starting with a Las Pistol that is shared with the Guardsman Veteran from the same wave. This is painted in black and brown and fits into either hand where there is a trigger finger to slot into place. The other weapon is a new jagged curved sword with a grey handle and sickly brown blade complete with sculpted scratches and marks. Again, this fits on either hand. Like a lot of WH40k releases, the plastic on the hands is quite rigid and engaging the weapons can be difficult to avoid damage it is worth warming the plastic up first gently. The Circular Stand features the WH40k logo and a single peg hole that is intended to sit in either of the peg holes on the Guardsman's feet. Like all of the variants of this body, the left peg hole is too small and the foot will be left up and out - although secure enough to hold a pose. The figure will pose perfectly well without the stand. McFarlane’s figure releases are often built on multiple variations, and yet its something we’ve not seen excessively for the WH40k line within the same wave - Ork Megafig’s aside. It works really well for the Guardsman template allowing army building where needed. This variant of the Traitor Guard is 90% identical to the main release, but the helmet and weapon changes give it enough identity to pose with its partner piece and look like they are part of a wider squad. Like the main release, the figure is well articulated and painted to a good standard with scope to do more if you like to enhance your WH40k figures. The Traitor Guardsman measures 18cm tall which is a couple of cm shorter than the Space Marines themselves. From a tabletop miniatures perspective, this does potentially undersize the Marine or oversize the Guardsman although the proportions are not too far apart to be significantly noticeable and the line has had scaling variances vs the source miniatures since it began. The Traitor Guard uses the base Imperial Guard body and this is cast in a very deep grey green. Armoured panels are added over the top in mat black and these include the chest armour, spiked shoulder pads and spiked arm guards. Additional decor then features on the Traitor Guard belt and chest strap in dark brown with all the pouches, straps and what look to be frag grenades all painted in the same base colour. A Chaos symbol finishes off the armour on the right side of the chest plate. The Guard features a spiked helmet with a plume that extends up and back in a softer plastic design. The helmet is open faced, and there is an impressive sculpted putrified head underneath with a pale flesh tone finish, dead white eyes, dark sunken nose and mouth and a snarl of white teeth. It is one of the best head sculpts seen to date on the WH40k line from McFarlane, and far superior to the similarly decayed Chaos Marine released in the same year.  The figure comes with a single accessory, a large Lasgun with a black cast main body and bright silver sights and barrel. It features sculpted wraps around the butt of the gun and an engraved Chaos Pentagram but neither of these are p ainted. The weapon looks out of place with the figure being too bright and shiny. It fits into the right hand where a trigger finger can lock into place, the left hand is shaped to hold the barrel so two-handed posing is possible.  Like a lot of WH40k releases, the plastic on the hands is quite rigid and engaging the weapons can be difficult and to avoid damage it is worth warming the plastic up first gently. Articulation is interesting as there are around 19 points in total but with some odd additions and omissions. The feet include articulated toes, but these will not bend far enough to support running or walking poses. We are missing any traditional rotation in the legs either at the knees or via a thigh swivel which initially feels tricky in getting the Guardsman standing. There is however rotation in the ankle rocker allowing the feet to be swiveled and splayed outward to help balance the posed figure. The hips lack much movement at all so there are no kneeling or crouching options open to you as such despite the double-jointed knees. On the upper body, we get double joints at the elbows and butterfly shoulders but not much movement in either of the torso joints. The butterfly shoulder pops out too easily if you take the arm too far, but all in all, there is enough scope in the arm articulation for a number of weapon posing including having it raised to eye level in a firing position. The included circular black stand is the final piece of the release printed with the Warhammer 40k logo in bright white on the front edge. It features a single peg which should slot into the peg holes on either of the Traitor guard's feet - ideally the left one so the WH40k logo sits at the front. In another frustrating quality control issue, the peg holes on all the Guardsman feet on the left is too shallow so the peg won’t sit in fully. While both right and left feet will hold position, if you choose to use the left slot the foot floats over the stand. Our Traitor Guardsman is a solid figure, heavy in hand but with a few slightly temperamental joints and a set of shoulders that will pop out if handled incorrectly. The paint job is good, but it has room for improvement with smaller details left as a base colour - this does of course fit with one of the core WH40k principles and gives collectors a base to enhance their figure further (or they can purchase the fully unpainted Artists proof). Revealed exclusively through the 13th Dimension is the next wave of Batman 1966 figures from McFarlane. Super7 is moving more lines into their new Deluxe format of 7-inch figures, a slimmed-down version of their Ultimates releases with limited accessories. The latest additions are Thundercats and Toho's Godzilla - and these have been revealed in the US as part of the Target Fall Geek-Out Event. From Thundercats are Deluxe carded releases of Lion-O with Sword of Omens and Claw Shield, and Monkian with his flail weapon. These are October 2024 releases but are not specifically listed as being exclusive to Target. The Toho Godzilla series will still come boxed due to their size and include Godzilla (1989) with building accessory, and Mechagodzilla (1993) also with a scaled building. Hiya Toys has announced their next Toho Godzilla release as this Exquisite Basic figure of Godzilla from Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah Giant Monsters All-Out Attack from 2001. The 7-inch Godzilla will come with an alternative pair of hands. It is scheduled for release in the 2nd quarter of 2025 so between April and June. Hiya Toys has revealed its next Star Trek Exquisite Super release with Chekov as seen in the 2009 Star Trek movie (Kelvin timeline). Chekov will feature a tailored soft goods uniform and will come with two head options, extra hands, a removable belt/holster, phaser, and communicator. McFarlane have a new pair of 7-inch scale DC Page Punchers on their way with each release coming with a reprint of some of DC's most iconic comic books. The first is taken from Batman: Reborn and is a new figure of Damian Wayne as Robin. He will come with a reprint of Batman and Robin Issue 1. He will also come with his sword, Professor Pyg's broken mask, and the usual stand and collector card. He is joined by a new Page Punchers DC Rebirth Deathstroke featuring an alternative unmasked Slade Wilson head and a trio of weapons. It will also come with a reprint of DC Rebirth Deathstroke Issue 1 plus a stand & collector card.
