The Phantom Menace set includes a battle-damaged version of Sebulba's Podracer with Sebulba. He is joined in the race by Gasgano and Dud Bolt and their Pod Racers. Each racer comes with a flight stand. The set is listed as being released in October 2024 and is exclusive to Target stores in the US. As well as the general re-release of their original 7-inch Beetlejuice figure, NECA has confirmed a Walmart US exclusive version which will be packed complete with a Handbook for the Recently Deceased. The release also features the standard accessories of the snake and the scaled handbook. And the whole set is boxed up in clear packaging. The set is listed as shipping around the 19th of September 2024 through Walmart in the US. "Enemies of the First Order, we will soon snuff out your meager resistance. You chose the wrong side and now you will pay" The Galaxy’s Edge Star Wars Black Series Multi-Packs were first released in 2019 combining existing figures with a handful of new characters/sculpts and sold solely in Disney Parks. A second batch was released in 2022 expanding the line to six sets in total. These packs were never available in the US and while some figures like Hondo Ohnaka, DJ, and the Mountain Trooper did get single releases - others remained elusive to these sets.  The 2022 First Order Set was themed around the Rise of the Resistance ride at Galaxy’s Edge and included three such figures that were not available anywhere else in this format. They included only the second-ever release for General Hux and the only one to include facial print tech, a Black R5 Droid, and a concept First Order AT-AT Driver. The fourth inclusion was an MSE ‘Mouse’ Droid, a piece that is not as widespread in the Black Series as perhaps it is in the Star Wars Galaxy itself having only ever come with the Exclusive Vice Admiral Rampart  (The Bad Batch) the previous year.  The Rise of the Resistance First Order set comes in special Galaxy’s Edge packaging complete with grey-lined artwork on both the cover and reverse - very much like the illustrations we are familiar with from the first 3 phases of the Black Series packaging. There is an opening front cover that features similar images of each character and a short synopsis that doesn't refer to the Galaxy's Edge attraction, but rather the in-world background of the 709th Legion's role on Batuu and Black Spire Outpost. Similarly, the rear of the box and the character background text talks about their role within the Star Wars Galaxy and not their role on the Disney Park ride. General Hux is the same base figure as released in 2016  wearing his matt black First Order uniform with gloss black boots and a painted plain silver buckle on the belt. Over this is his long coat in a similar colour to the uniform but in a flexible rubberised plastic. Like the uniform, the coat is pretty much left in its base black colour - but it does feature three silver rings around the left arm cuff and a First Order decal on the left shoulder. The head is a new sculpt and a very good likeness to actor Domhnall Gleeson with photo-real printing utilised to add further realism to the sculpt. The hair too is well executed particularly as it appears to be part of the head sculpt so the paintwork to keep the edges crisp and tidy is top notch. The one issue with the head is the neck peg which is a hangover from the older body that Hux is using. The neck peg is part of the cast black body and while it is overpainted with a flesh tone the colour match to the head is poor and the black lines of the peg are still visible.  vs the 2016 General Hux release (on the right) Hux comes with a single First Order blaster pistol cast in black with a small amount of silver detailing on just the one side of the main barrel. It fits in his right hand but has no working holster. Articulation is the 16 points as was standard with figures of 2015/2016 with pinned but double-jointed knees and single unpinned elbows. Hux is reasonably expressive with his arms with or without the blaster, while the legs offer a wide range of movement but are held in check by the base of his tunic and more so by the overcoat. Hux is joined in the set by two First Order droids, the first of which is an MSE ‘Mouse’ Droid. This is the same droid as included with The Bad Batch figure of Vice Admiral Rampart and has no differentiating parts to that original release. vs the 2021 Rampart MSE Droid release (on the right) It is a hard plastic cast piece with a sculpted ridge around the base, side panels and upper component pieces at both the front and back of the droid. It sits on two sets of wheels which are articulated so the droid can be rolled around. Scaling is good, and if you want to use this on an Imperial display rather than with the First Order it works perfectly fine.  The second droid is a First Order R5 droid with no designation provided. It is based on the droid that pilots the Rise of the Resistance ride cars at Galaxy’s Edge. It uses the older R5-D4 sculpt from 2017  as a base so it is the now undersized Astromech sculpt since the reworking of the droid's dimensions in 2023. The droid body and dome are cast black with painted silver and red components across the legs, body and head including silver photoreceptors and red dome panelling. The dome is finished with a flexible aerial in black. vs the 2017 R5-D4 (on the right) The R5 droid is articulated at the dome which rotates and the legs which are pivot hinged at the top and the ‘ankles’. Rotating the dome also extends the third travelling leg out from within the main body of the droid and this also features a lower ‘ankle’ joint to plant it on the floor in the travelling position. The R5 also comes with the same opening front panels as the original Astromech figures on which it is based. These vertical flaps open to reveal hinged manipulator arms within that pivot up and outward revealing a probe on one side, and a claw arm on the other. The set is concluded by the First Order AT-AT Driver, a troop variant that never appeared on screen and is seen fleetingly in the Rise of the Resistance ride at Galaxy’s Edge in the cockpit of an AT-AT. Like many of the First Order Trooper’s the AT-AT Driver draws inspiration from the original Imperial suit  with a grey flightsuit over which are white gloss armoured panels. This body is actually the same as used for the First Order Tie Pilots , but it gets a brand new chest box in white with silver, red and orange painted component parts.  vs the 2016 Imperial AT-AT Driver and 2015 First Order Tie Pilot Two black breathing tubes extend from either side of the chest box and up over the shoulders to connect to the AT-AT Driver’s helmet at the back. This helmet pays homage to the original Imperial version with the face plate of a First Order Stormtrooper and the wider helmet of a pilot. The visor is a dark red colour, while black is used for the front inverted triangle on the helmet crest, and in the lining of the face plate. Two First Order decals are added, in red, on either side of the helmet.  The AT-AT driver features the same blaster as Hux but is devoid of any paint. Like Hux, it fits in the right hand and has no holster options. By using the older 2015 body, the AT-AT Driver includes 16 points of articulation with pinned double-jointed knees and unpinned single-jointed elbows. The driver can move pretty well with some clever engineering with the shoulder armour that withdraws under the chest plate when the arms move. The lower straps of the belt are also flexible enough to move with the legs while the breathing tubes have enough give to allow the head to move a good distance to either side.  The Rise of the Resistance First Order set is difficult to badge as a four-figure set with the MSE Droid having been given that billing on the packaging, yet is pretty much an accessory for Hux. Out of the three full figures the AT-AT Driver and Hux are fairly even for top billing, predominantly through their exclusivity to the set but also thanks to a good upgrade on the Hux head sculpt and likeness, and the familiarity yet updated design for the AT-AT Driver. Fans of the Ride can mark their experience buying the set, while others may well update their Last Jedi collection with the Hux and AT-AT Driver, while the droids fit in perfectly well with the Imperials as much as they do with the First Order. The issue for the set is the exclusivity and the price - but I do appreciate the need for park exclusives to give attendees a souvenir of their visit. One for the purists, but certainly a set worth tracking down on the secondary market for collectors of the Sequel Era. “If you want to win, you send for the biggest, meanest, and angriest you’ve got. That’s me. Not these runts. They can’t hold a proper gun. Can’t hold a proper knife. Scream in pain all the time. Or just because it’s fun. Or because they’re bored. Idiots.” To mark the release of the Warhammer 40k video game, Dark Tide, McFarlane released a wave of their Warhammer 40k figures in 2022 taking inspiration from some of the characters in the game. The Darktide releases introduced the Astra Militarum or Imperial Guard into the McFarlane collection and within those ranks was the next Megafig for the Warhammer 40k collection with the addition of the Imperial Guard Ogryn. The Orgyn comes in the expanded Megafig box which follows the same design principles as the general figures and includes a dark Warhammer 40k gothic feel in its artwork and with the character detail specified on the side panel via an illustrated image. The rear of the box carries a picture of the content and does miss the opportunity to tell you more about the figure/character. The Ogryn itself is strapped securely into an inner tray and this is packed against a brighter yellow card back to aid visibility. There is a small blister glued to the card back containing the stand, the only part of the box that couldn’t be repacked once opened.  The Darktide Ogryn was the second of the Warhmmer 40k character classes to be made in the Megafig format following on from the trio of Orcs earlier the same year. While we have since had the Space Marine Terminator, the Ogryn is still the biggest of the Megafig’s head-to-head, standing at 22cm (8.5 inches) tall. He is wearing predominantly black armour in a glossier black over a combat suit in a duller grey-black finish with an imprinted fish-scale pattern. The boots, chest armour and the two large shoulder pauldrons feature sculpted rivets and battle damage but lack any further paintwork.  We do get some more detail on the large leather strap slung across our Ogryn’s chest in brown with a silver buckle and a short piece of gunmetal chain hanging from his belt. Decals are applied to finish off the costume with an Imperial Eagle on his belt pouch, what is likely to be a Regiment or Squd symbol on the chest, and some further numbering on the left pauldron. The head, exposed arms, and chest have a pale skin tone with sculpted bulbing veins and muscles. The head is arguably the best to date from McFarlane in their 40k series with a realistic painted decor that includes sunken red eyes and a snarled expression with exposed painted teeth and gum. The Ogryn is also sporting a further black Imperial Symbol on his forehead as a tattoo. Our Ogryn is given a single, but enormous weapon in the shape of the Ripper Gun which is green in colour with a grey barrel, black grip, and black bayonet complete with notches and battle damage within the cast part. It fits into the Ogryn’s right hand - and this is a squeeze as the plastic is not overly flexible. Once positioned the left hand can swing over and grip the extended side grip on the right to provide a two-handed posing option which looks the most natural even though our Ogryn can wield the weapon in one hand. As a bulkier character, the articulation on the Ogryn is reduced particularly compared to the multi-jointed Imperial/Traitor Guardsman from the Darktide releases. There are 16 joints in total with single pinned elbows and knees that do bend to just under the 90-degree point. That is sufficient for the Ripper Gun to be held in firing positions for the arms, and for the legs to get into a walking pose - supported by the toe joints that provide a flat support against your shelf when the legs are bent. The Ogryn - like the Orks - won’t be doing any spectacular posing, but it has options and the joints are suitably robust for a figure of its bulk and weight. The final inclusion in the set is the circular stand which is the same size as all those included with McFarlane releases. This means it looks undersized compared to the bulk of the Ogryn, but it does provide some added stability for whichever foot it connects to (it will fit right or left). The Ogryn has not sold particularly well and is still on shelves some 2 years after release at a price well under the original RRP. Having the figure in hand, this shelf warming is a surprise as it's a pretty impressively executed piece with a strong sculpt, clean and crisp paint job, and adequate articulation. He even comes with one of the biggest guns seen at this scale and a very mean and realistic head sculpt. The issue is perhaps a lack of context with the other figures in the line, but with more Imperial Guards on the way the Ogryn’s time may come. All of the NECA 7-inch scale Dungeons & Dragons 50th Anniversary figures have been listed for general pre-orders via the NECA store and NECA stockists. The wave features figures of Strongheart, Warduke, Zarak, and Elkhorn with each character a repainted version of the original releases paying homage to the colours of the original LJN figures. While Warduke and Strongheart had already been on general pre-order with a September 2024 release date, Zarak and Elkhorn had initially been a 'first to market' exclusive via Walmart and their Collector Con Event. The general pre-orders for these two are listed with an October 2024 release date. Along with these new listings and the social media posts come some newer images of the figures. The new Marvel Legends Dragon Man figure - previewed back at SDCC 2024 - has opened up for its pre-order window on Hasbro Pulse. The figure is not a HasLab project but is an Ultra Deluxe format and it is going to be produced based on pre-order numbers and you have a limited window running to the 17th of October with Dragon Man then shipping in late May 2025. The 10-inch tall figure includes an alternative pair of hands and comes with both folded and expanded wings. We also get Dragon Man's glasses as well as a Future Foundation book. The packaging has not yet been revealed, but we can assume a boxed package considering the size. “Though our tanks and artillery are mighty, it is the vast ranks of Imperial Guardsmen that shall trample the enemy to dust - let them come.” To mark the release of the Warhammer 40k video game, Dark Tide, McFarlane released a wave of their Warhammer 40k figures in 2022 taking inspiration from some of the characters in the game. The Darktide releases introduced the Astra Militarum or Imperial Guard into the McFarlane collection. This was done using the same principle as the Space Marines and Orks by creating a general figure body onto which varying parts, components, and paintwork can be added to individualise the character.  The Veteran Guardsman  was part of the main wave of Darktide figures and is packed into the same window box as per all the WH40k general releases from its inception in 2020 and through until the 2024 releases where the packaging aesthetic was updated. This general box uses a dark gothic-inspired design personalised to the figure on the side art and the rear of the box only. There is no background text or overview of the figure - only images - with the figure itself set against a deep yellow card back. The figure is strapped tightly into an inner tray with several clear ties to negotiate to release him. The figure stand is glued onto the card back in its own bubble, meaning if you do want to use the stand the packaging will be damaged when unpacked. The Veteran Guardsman shares some of the main body components with the Traitor Guards from the same wave. He stands 18cm tall which does call into question some of the scale with the McFarlane Warhammer 40k figures and making either him too tall, or the Space Marines too small. He features a black base body overlaid with a deep olive green armoured panelling across the legs, chest and shoulders and over this we have a tactical belt in a lighter military green. The final decor is included with a white stripe on the left shoulder pauldron - a finish that is less than tidy - and silver skull and Imperium crests on the chest and belt. The head is enclosed in a green combat helmet with another silver-winged Imperium crest. The face is obscured with a breathing mask that includes milky white goggles, and a brown face mask with silver filters.  The Veteran features two weapons, starting with a Las Pistol that is shared with the Traitor Guard variant. This one is painted in gunmetal and with a brighter silver grip and trigger. It can be held in either hand, with both left and right hand options including a separate trigger finger. Like most McFarlane releases, the plastic for the hands is not overly flexible and engaging the gun in particular may need a bit of gentle heat to avoid damage. The other weapon is a Chainsword, and while this is pretty similar to the ones packed with both the Marines and Sisters of Battle, it is a new scaled piece of its own to fit with the Imperial Guard Veteran. It includes deep sculpted component parts and the Imperial Eagle symbol with a main body coloured in gunmetal silver, with the teeth of the blade picked out in a standard silver colour. It also fits in either hand, but as it has a smaller grip than the Las Pistol the grip is not as severe. The articulation is 19 points in total setting the standard for ‘human’ characters with double-jointed knees and elbows, butterfly shoulders, and an ankle rocker that also rotates and is supported by toe joints - although the latter of these are not massively useful. The legs are restricted at the hips so you will only get upright poses out of your guard. The upper torso is much more manoeuvrable offering plenty of options for the Guard with or without either weapon. Be mindful that the butterfly shoulder piece can pop out easily if the arm is over-extended. The release also includes the usual black circular stand with the Warhammer 40k logo in white across the front. It features a single peg that should line up with the holes in either the right or left foot, but the Guardsman's left foot hasn’t been cut deep enough so you will need to use the right peg hole or have the left foot hovering.  I am impressed with the Imperial Veteran Guardsman from Darktide. He features a well-designed body - but one that also offers McFarlane the option to expand and update for future variants - with a dark but accurate paint job to the game. The paint is clean and crisp in the main but lacks the fuller detail that the hobby would encourage experienced painters to add themselves - or go the whole hog with the Unpainted Artist Proof version. Weapon choices are nice, but adding a third weapon like a Las Rifle may have opened up some further Army-building options.  The Veteran Guardsman was the most popular of the Darktide releases and with the announcement of the addition of the Karskrin to the McFarlane Imperial Guard ranks, the figure is likely to grow in popularity. Super7's Deluxe format rollout continues with the reveal of a 'DX' Deluxe Release of their Conan the Barbarian 7-inch figure in his 'iconic pose'.
