“Save the Rebellion! Save the dream!” Saw Gerrera finally made his Star Wars Black Series action figure debut in 2022. He was released under the Galaxy Collection as a Deluxe release so the box is wider than standard but still features the same black base colouring, front window, and Cyan accent colour on the text and artwork. Saw Gerrera is the 10th release in the Rogue One Galaxy Collection, with his artwork connecting to the prior release, the Jedha Patrol Stormtrooper.  While Saw is a Deluxe release, in hand he is a standard-sized figure with the Deluxe status granted due to the complexity of his outfit and the associated decor. He is depicted as seen during the events of Rogue One with his green armoured suit trimmed in lighter blue and silver. Within the chest piece are the various life support functions keeping Saw alive with silver sockets and connections and from one of these comes the clear oxygen tube and mask. The exposed right foot is a robotic limb and coloured in Gun Metal silver while the left foot is wearing a simple sandal with exposed toes. A similar contrast is found on Saw’s hands with a gloved left hand contrasting with the uncovered right hand.  Further components are included around his belt which also features a holster for his blaster. And round the back the costume is finished with a low-slung cape in soft plastic. This is an older Onderanian banner that Saw is using as a cape and it's coloured in red and beige. The head sculpt is a strong likeness to Forest Whittaker in character with visible scarring on the forehead and cheek. The facial printing adds the realism in and around the eyes, while the hair and beard are sculpted and painted to match the onscreen look. There is a glossy finish to the head which was a theme at this time on lots of figures. While it can look sweaty which fits with Saw’s scenes on Jedha, it can detract from the overall look particularly where it reflects the light. The Oxygen mask mentioned earlier could be classed as the first of Saw’s accessories. It comes with the mask section clipped into a hook on the collar of his chest armour. From here it can be detached and held or placed over his mouth to recreate his aided breathing.  As a Resistance Leader, we also expect Saw to feature a blaster. This comes in the form of a DH-16 Blaster Pistol with a silver colouring and wrapped grip in a brown leather finish. The blaster can be holstered on Saw’s right hip or held in the right hand which is the only one to feature a trigger finger.  The final accessory is Saw’s staff which is sculpted in a dark wood colour with wooden twisting details interspersed with silver components. It fits in either of Saw’s hand and can be posed as a walking aid, or as an offensive weapon. Gerrera comes with 16 points of pinless articulation, all relatively well incorporated and disguised in the extensive armoured costume. The bulk of the upper armour in particular does cause some restriction in arm movement at the shoulder with Saw unable to raise his left arm very much because it pushes the outer skin of the armoured chest piece up and over the figure's face. There is sufficient movement to use the three included accessories, mainly employing the right arm. The legs provide a stable footing for display even with two very different feet that still coordinate using an ankle pivot to stand him securely. The leader of The Partisans is a particularly impressive Black Series release and I can see the complexity in the suit and its varied components. Whether this should therefore make it a Deluxe release remains questionable as he would have fit in a standard box which would then be easier to display for mint-in-box collectors. The original RRP was around the £33 mark at the time, but the figure was oversaturated and is still available at the time of this review for well under that original price mark and that seems odd considering the fandom’s feelings for the character and the impressive execution of the figure - glossy face decor aside. “How many do we need?” In 2021 Hasbro marked the 5th Anniversary of Rogue One with a number of releases in the Black Series line as part of their new Galaxy Collection packaging and connective artwork boxes. Within this were a number of new releases, but also a reworking of five of the original Rogue One figures giving most of them a makeover both in figure decor and in packaging.  The wave was a Fan Channel release. The final figure in the Rogue One Fan Channel wave for 2021 was Baze Malbus whose cyan coloured artwork follows on from fellow Guardian of the Whills Chirrut Imwe in the larger Rogue One montage. The artwork then connects onward to the first new figure of the wave from Rogue One, Bodhi Rook . vs 2017 release (right) Baze Malbus uses the same base as his original 2017 release . He is wearing a green/brown combat suit overlaid with armoured panels in either cream or deep gloss red. The largest of these is a chest piece, featuring a two-tone ‘V’ decal, that encircles his neck and runs down to his midriff where it connects to what is described as a battery regulator in cream with painted silver panels and buttons. The costume concludes with a belt featuring two large pouches, and a pair of simple brown boots. There are more noticeable colour variances on Baze vs his original release with a darker tone to the combat suit and a brighter tone to the red.  The head sculpt was obviously a good likeness to actor Jiang Wen with the newer face printing showing that off on the new release. Baze’s head sculpts also include his long hair which frames his face and sits over his shoulders with the end sections with a painted hair tie or wrap. There is a slightly glossy finish to the face which was something we saw across 2021 and that does detract slightly from the overall look although it does present as a sweaty face which is accurate to the battle scenes on Scarff. Baze comes with his Heavy Repeater Cannon which is cast in grey with black and red markings. It connects directly to an ammunition feed in grey that itself connects to Baze’s backpack. This drum-shaped Coolent Backpack slots into a socket on the rear of the figure and features a similar red colouring to his armour with silver trim and panels and a visible section where we have a series of coiled bronzed wires. There is also an exhaust port that comes out to the side and upward. Baze’s black cloak is incorporated into the backpack to hang to the left-hand side.  There is also a taser accessory secreted away on the rear of Baze's belt. This can be removed and wielded as a weapon. Baze Malbus features 16 points of articulation with the main use coming from the arms which have to grip the Heavy Repeater Cannon with both a right-hand trigger grip, and for most poses a left-hand support grip. These arm positions also have to work with the ammo belt so not to dislodge it. While this is feasible, it is quite tight overall and you will find Baze limited to just a short range of two-handed poses with the gun. The legs feature dual-joined knees as a carryover from the older figure which provides a wider range of leg positions - albeit a little held in check by the cape that hangs down as low as Baze’s ankles. Despite the extensive backpack, the front weaponry does balance out the figure and there is suitable strength in the ankle joints for Baze to stand securely on display. Like the other figures in the wave, Baze Malbus is certainly an enhancement on his earlier release by way of the facial print tech application but also thanks to some crisper colouring in the suit. It brings the entirety of the main Rebel force in Rogue One and the attack on Scariff in line with more recent Black Series releases.
