“You have no power.” Following on from the first season of Ahsoka in 2023 and the initial wave of figures, a late 2023 Galaxy Collection wave brought us two of the key protagonists in the Black Series format with the releases of Baylan Skoll  and his apprentice Shin Hati . Both figures had flaws in terms of their scale/height and also that they lacked the soft goods robes that both of them wore for many of their scenes in Ahsoka. Roll forward nearly a year, and Hasbro are revisiting both characters with the Autumn 2024 releases of Baylan Skoll (Mercenary)  and this figure titled Shin Hati (Arcana), with Arcana being the planet on which the series starts with Ahsoka finding the star map.  The Arcana release of Shin Hati is a Galaxy Collection exclusive and sold via Target in the US and the Fan Channel elsewhere, including here in the UK. It is a numbered release at number 14 in the Ahsoka collection - following on directly from the companion Baylan Skoll (Mercenary) release. The box is the newer squared-off format with black base and the light blue colour assigned to the Ahsoka releases used on the text, numbering and the side artwork which features Shin Hati in her outer cloak. The rear of the box talks more specifically about Shin Hati rather than a synopsis of the Ahsoka series, specifically her role as Baylan Skoll's apprentice and their work for Morgan Elsbeth. The inner tray of the box is now colour-coded to the rest of the accent colour and also features some backdrop art of the Arcana ruins. Out of the box Shin Hati is pretty much identical to the 2023 release but now features the soft goods robes. She is wearing her beige-toned ‘apprentice’ outfit which is made up of both armoured sandy panels on areas like her torso and shoulders, and a mix of sculpted robe pieces around the belt and down into a skirt piece. These robes vary in colour and texture while the armour pieces are flat and plastic in colour tone on the torso, but improve significantly with the use of additional silver metallic wear details on the shoulders, wrist gauntlets, and boots.  The head is a good likeness in the face to actor Ivanna Sakhno enhanced with face print application. The hair remains the same harsh cut fringe and lacks the soft fly-away nature of Shin Hati’s hair on screen. It is also a very bright blonde colour so has no variation in shading. Her Padawan braid extends out from the hairpiece to sit down over the shoulder. It's a softer plastic piece and while the first release had the braid sticking out too much from the body, this one is better shaped and sits naturally against Shin’s shoulder.  vs. Shin Hati release (2023) The robes use the standard ‘Jedi’ fabric and the tailoring most recently seen on The Acolyte figures. This means the robes sit naturally on the figure, shaped around the shoulders with a stitched clasp and then shaped to flow down and around the shoulders rather than hanging flat or sitting unnaturally on the figure. Similar tailoring is applied to the hood and it's one of the better-fitting hood pieces we’ve seen in the line. The cloak is of course removable if you want to vary the look of your Dark Jedi Apprentice, particularly if you didn’t pick up the first release.  Shin Hati comes with her lightsaber and this is the usual two part accessory with a sculpted grey an silver hilt and a clip in red/orange blade. The hilt fits on her belt by way of a hook connection or will sit comfortably in either hand. The blade - criticised on the first release for not matching the orange glow seen on screen - remains too red for my liking so the opportunity to tweak the colour has been missed.  There is also no adjustment made to Shin Hati’s height. The figure is technically too tall vs her onscreen stature, and this is exaggerated due to her master Baylan Skoll standing too tall - making them look ridiculous and out of scale when placed side by side. Articulation is also the same as the first release with 17 points of pinless articulation. There are restrictions caused by the costume with the legs held in check by the skirt piece extending to the knees, and the shoulders impaired slightly by hinged shoulder pauldrons which feel a bit too stiff. These restrictions aside, there is sufficient movement available for lightsaber poses in particular with Shin Hati perfectly capable of two handed grips thanks to the butterfly shoulder joints.  Like the accompanying Baylan Skoll revisit, the Shin Hati brings us an enhancement to the original by way of the very well-executed soft goods cloak. What it doesn’t do is revisit any of the other points that disappointed fans when the original came out - namely the height, the hair piece, and the colouring of the lightsaber blade. Making this an exclusive but then numbering it as part of the wider Galaxy Collection also creates an issue for boxed collectors who will need to double-dip on these characters and have a montage that repeats the pairing of Skoll and Hati with only Grand Admiral Thrawn sitting between the two batches of releases in the side art. Perhaps a two-pack might have been a preferable release for the duo. The figure does have a standard £24.99 RRP and is easy enough to source, particularly outside the US where you have multiple Fan Channel retailers to choose from. The figure is better than the original 2023 release and therefore if you missed it the first time around, then this one is the better choice now it is on shelves. Week two of the Gift the Galaxy program from Hasbro and Amazon featured reveals in both the Vintage Collection and the Black Series Roleplay line. “We have brought you three more foundlings in need of care and training” The single release of the Mandalorian Shriek-Hawk was a November 2024 arrival, sold via Target stores in the US and via the Fan Channel Retailers in the UK and other areas. The figure comes in the newer Galaxy Collection packaging with black base colour and deep orange accent colour as is assigned to the Mandalorian collection. This colouring is used on the box text, including confirmation of the numbering as the 40th release in the Mandalorian series. The colour is also used in the side artwork and this forms part of the larger montage, connecting to the prior release of The Mandalorian Privateer.  The rear of the box specifies the role of the Shriek-Hawks as experts in jetpack operations, scouting and rescue missions. The coloured insert that acts as the backdrop to the figure itself are now aligned in their colouring to the accent colour of the source material so there is a deep orange backdrop for the figure that also features a hint of background artwork - in the case of the Shriek-Hawk this is a skyline with clouds.  The figure is the third of the Shriek-Hawk trainers as seen in The Mandalorian Series 3 and part of The Armourers Covert. This one is most clearly seen on screen as one of the two Mandos who lead the Shriek-Hawks from Bo-Katan’s ship. Hasbro are creating a catalogue of Mandalorian warrior parts and this latest edition borrows heavily from the Privateer  as a base (that figure was itself a hybrid from the Fleet Captain  and the Deathwatch Commando ). The Shriek-Hawk has a prominently grey undersuit with blue, green and beige used for the various armoured panels. The upper torso uses the blues and greys over the chest and shoulder armour but with muted browns on the wrist gauntlets which are the newer Shriek-Hawk forearms as used in the two-pack . The overall look is completed with a Deathwatch logo added to the left-hand shoulder pauldron. The lower body features a brand new softer plastic belt in brown and silver with both a working holster and an incorporated longer skirt piece that sits to the side of the legs in a mud brown colour. The legs themselves are again mainly from the Fleet Captain but include smaller thigh armour and updated/new brown boots without any armoured segments.  The helmet is not removable and is another direct carry-over from the Privateer with a blue base and silver painted trim around the visor further trimmed in grey and with a grey stripe running over the helmet top to the left-hand side. The range finder remains in place and can be articulated down over the visor. The jet pack originates with the Fleet Captain and was used on the Privateer. It features a blue and grey base with red/brown panels and silver and grey on the thrusters and rocket. The thrusters themselves are articulated and can be rotated around. The jetpack fits into the rear of the figure by way of a central peg and two upper slimmer flat pegs.  Articulation is 19 points like most of the modern Mando releases with pinless joints throughout. There are butterfly joints tucked away under the chest armour, while the neck is also jointed at the top and bottom. The skirt piece is restrictive to the leg movement but it is flexible to move out with the legs to a point for wider stances. The Shriek-Hawk comes with the same two weapons as his male counterpart from the Shriek-Hawk 2-Pack. This includes a newer version of the WESTSAR-35 which includes both silver and black detail. This fits only in the Shriek-Hawk’s right hand or in the provided holster. The second weapon is the Deathwatch Mandalorian Rifle - another piece that featured in the two-pack but originally came with the Deathwatch Commando. This is a gloss-black two-handed weapon with gold trim. It fits best in the right hand also, but the larger barrel and gun stock make it harder for the trigger finger to get into position. The left hand can come across and grip the weapon on the second support for two-handed posing including being able to have the weapon raised and in a firing position. The Shriek-Hawk single release brings us to 3 out of the 4 defied Shriek-Hawk trainers in The Armourers ‘Children of the Watch’ and we would expect the final version to follow at some point. Like the two pack, there is a good level of accuracy applied here, including the tooling and use of new parts where the existing ones would not work. The colours are crisp and well painted and the articulation provides plenty of display options. As an exclusive the availability may be an issue, although here in the UK it was available through several Fan Channel sources. Price-wise, it is the same as a general release with a £24.99 RRP. For fans of The Mandalorian and those building up their Mandalorian troops - this is a great addition, either solo or joining with the other Shriek-Hawks as a squad display. “Be honest with me...how fast do you think you can get that thing to go without killing it?” Soon after it’s appearance in the Venom: The Last Dance trailer, a 3rd party unbranded Venom horse started showing up on secondary selling platforms like eBay and Aliexpress. The Venom horse does not appear to be a bootleg of a licensed release, so we took a punt and ordered the figure to see how it would fit with our Marvel Legends display. The Venom Horse, in most cases (and ours), comes unboxed but inside a low-quality plastic inner tray that does appear to be shaped to hold the horse and accessories. Some sellers are offering the item boxed, although the box shown is also unbranded and uses a poster for the movie as the main cover. In hand, the Venom Horse is a surprisingly heavy item, with the body in solid plastic rather than a hollow piece as you may expect. The base plastic is black with sculpted symbiote tendrils across the full body, up the neck, and down the four legs. The tail is supplied separately and needs plugging into a socket on the horse’s rump with a fit that is tight but secure once it's clicked in place although there is a weak spot here and the tail is easy to snap. The tail, like the body, is black plastic and with multiple splayed tendrils snaking outward from the central joint. Over the black base of the horse is applied some blue highlighted areas, adding a further layer to the heavily sculpted figure. There are three heads supplied with the Venom horse, the first attached on arrival features an open mouth lined with Venom-esque teeth painted in bone yellow and with a red gum line. The eyes are painted too in white - and here the paint is a little rough in terms of courage and definition. This head has a tongue in red that snakes out of the mouth and this is removable being fitted with a magnet connection that slots into the mouth and holds in place. The second head is similar to the first with some minor variations including smaller eyes and teeth and with a fixed tongue. The final head is broader and with a less elongated snout and a tongue that snakes out and back to the right of the face as though the horse is running at speeds. All three heads slot on and off by way of a large ball joint. All are reflective of the Venom Horse on screen, but with minor variations of expression, which allows you to choose which one you use for display. Articulation totals 17 points overall and all of them are pinless. The neck articulates at the base of the body moving forward and backward, while the ball joint head allows for mainly vertical movement up and down, but with a little play laterally. The tail, as mentioned, is a clip-in ball joint on a peg that rotates round and can be displayed raised, lowered, and to the sides. The bulk of the joints are then in the legs, the forelegs featuring three joints at the top, middle, and base just above the hooves. The rear legs have four joints with the flank moving as a rotating joint to the body, and then the same hinges used down the legs to the hooves.  The weight of the horse which felt impressive on first opening now becomes a problem as the leg joints are not ratcheted and our Venom horse is difficult to stand on its own without all four legs on the ground and pretty much straight down. Any running posing, or where any of the four legs is off the ground then the weight of the horse takes it over.  In terms of scale, the Venom horse is indeed a 1/12 (6-inch) scaled item with a six-inch basic figure like our Agent Ross coming up to the horse's back. The movie Venom figure stands taller, and just a tad shorter than the horse's head. While Carnage - the largest of the movie symbiotes - stands about a head taller. The horse can be ridden using the articulation of the rider although we are not close as yet to recreating the scenes in The Last Dance without an Eddie Brock figure. Whether this will be revealed as a bootleg for a license release is unknown, but it is very unusual for a bootleg to make it to market before the licensed release. For now, it is the only Venom horse option for collectors, and I am pleased to say that it will work well enough with the Marvel Legends or other 6-inch figures - although it does lack the overall quality and finish of other lines. The next release in Mezco's 5Points Batman the Animated Series release has been revealed. The Series 2 Deluxe Set will feature Sky Dive Batman, Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, Harley Quinn, and a Batcycle. “Go, I will. Good relations with the Wookiees, I have.” The Clones of the Republic is a sub-line of the Star Wars Black Series Galaxy Collection that launched in 2024. It is an exclusive line shared between Hasbro Pulse and Shop Disney with each set featuring a Clone Wars era Clone plus another character, with the two releases so far both including Jedi Masters. Following on from the Mace Windu and 187th Clone  in the Spring of 2024, the second set features Yoda and Clone Commander Gree - arriving to UK collectors in the first half of November 2024. The packaging for the Clones of the Republic sets is a variant of the Galaxy Collection and the Yoda set still features the slanted sides - but on both sides rather than the usual right-hand spine. The collection is not themed around a particular movie or series but draws its inspiration from the wider story of the Clone Wars and therefore also incorporates characters from the comic books. Apart from the twin slanted sides, the box follows the usual design with a black base colour and an accent colour used on the character name and the side artwork. As the source material on each figure varies, an individual sky blue colour scheme is assigned to the collection featuring prominently on the artwork with Yoda on one side and Gree on the other. While the set is number 02 in the collection, none of the side artwork connects together or with the previous sets. The rear of the box repeats the images of Yoda and Gree and confirms their role and relationship serving together during the Clone Wars.  Clone Commander Gree has been released previously in the line, but wearing his Camo gear from the Battle of Kashyyyk and as seen in the Revenge of the Sith scenes. This new two-pack steers away from this design and brings us Gree in what would be considered the standard armour and markings for the 41st Elite Corps and based visually on comic book art for Commander Gree. The figure therefore utilises the standard and newest Clone Trooper body with white cast armour parts over a black inner body and joints. The green markings of the 41st are added over the armour and in neat, straight lines without the intentional rough markings we have seen on other Clones to reflect the battlefield marking of their armour.  Hasbro intended to include a removable helmet for all Clone ‘characters’ going forward, a move supported by the newer body featuring a hollow helmet and this was certainly applied on the first Clones of the Republic set and the 187th Clone. It appears that was also intended at some point for Gree and went as far as a flesh-tone cast head that is visible under the helmet. Sadly, a decision since has been made to fix the helmet in place so we have no option of displaying Gree with his helmet removed and with that unique haircut he is sporting in the comic book artwork. The helmet is standard and has no added parts or designs as seen on other Commanders. Like the armour it's cast in white and has green painted markings with the visor and vents painted in black with some silver detail in selected areas.  Gree comes with both of the standard Clone Trooper issued blaster rifles the DC-15S blaster carbine and the longer DC15-A blaster rifle. These are a dark grey, almost black cast plastic with no other decor or paintwork. As Gree uses the newest Clone Trooper configuration we do get trigger fingers on both left and right hands and both weapons can be held in either with articulation supporting two-handed grips on the barrel with the remaining hand.  Commander Gree has 21 points of pinless articulation and offers up a wide range of movement. He can kneel, or sit, with the knee pad armour ‘floating’ over the knee joint rather than being fixed directly. The arms can facilitate plenty of weapon positions including firing positions with the shoulder pauldrons hinged over the butterfly shoulders so as not to restrict that upward movement. In hand, it does feel like Gree has looser joints than those I’ve had on any other Clone Trooper releases using the new body. While this doesn’t impact posing it may become an issue in the future. While Gree is a well executed release, the star of this set is arguably the new Yoda figure. While the Jedi Master has had releases previously - and these have included his lightsaber - they were always themed around his look in the Original Trilogy. This one is the first true Prequel Trilogy Yoda and it will fit perfectly into a display of the Clone Wars era from The Phantom Menace, through Clone Wars and to Revenge of the Sith.  The figure is based on the newer Yoda released for the 40th Anniversary of Empire Strikes Back and packed with Luke Skywalker in a Jedi Training set. The base body remains a direct re-use of this 2020 release  but with updated feet, hands, and outer robes. The inner robes are a plain dark brown, while the soft goods are a sandy finish tailored to Yoda’s smaller frame including the folded collar. Hands and feet are green cast plastic with painted ivory finger and toenails. vs 2020 'Empire' release (right) There are two heads included for the prequel Yoda allowing you to choose between a neutral, serene-looking Yoda and a second head which features a sterner, more determined look. Both heads are cast in green with grey paintwork used on the hair and a pair of painted - probably printed - eyes. The smaller frame means there is no neck as such with the head fitting directly into the collar of the robes and onto an internal ball joint.  There are three accessories included with Yoda, again allowing you to choose his appearance for display in line with his various Prequel Trilogy appearances. The first is a tiny walking stick, scaled to the smaller Yoda body and shaped to reflect the knotty wood it was made from. It has a balled end which can just about slot up into the hand and be held in place allowing it to be posed in a walking or standing position.  There are then two versions of Yoda’s lightsaber. One a hilt and one a hilt with a lit lightsaber blade. The size of the saber has obviously rendered a removable blade difficult so this option - used on the Vintage Collection 3.75 figures - is a good compromise. The saber can fit into either hand, and there is even sufficient articulation in the tiny body for a two-handed grip as seen when fighting Count Dooku or Darth Sidious.  Yoda has 14 points of articulation, all pinless, which allows him a reasonable degree of movement. The arms are jointed sufficiently to wield the lightsaber or hold the stick while the legs, and the wider splayed feet of Yoda’s species, ensure a robust standing position and the ability for some more expressive and dynamic action stances when attacking or walking. The legs also allow Yoda to be seated, an essential aspect for the final inclusion in this set.  For the first time ever in the Star Wars Black Series, this new Clones of the Republic 2-Pack also brings us a Jedi Council Chair for Yoda to sit in. While we have had thrones before for Snoke and Palpatine, this is first for our Jedi characters. Like the previous ‘chairs’ the seat is a hollow hard plastic cast with a grey base colour and red plush seat, cushion, and back.  The Council Chair is Yoda sized, specific to him as it was on screen and therefore is not something that can be used by other figures. Yoda himself sits pretty naturally into the seat, although a tiny bit more range in the hips would have allowed a perfect seated position and some ability to lean a bit further forward as we see him do when talking during Council meetings.  The Yoda and Clone Commander Gree ‘Clones of the Republic’ set is retailing at £46 on Hasbro Pulse in the UK with a similar price expected if and when this reaches Shop Disney in the UK. It is one of the few sets recently released that has sold out on Pulse- although restocks are possible. For your £46 you get a Clone Trooper with two weapons, Yoda with his walking stick and lightsaber accessories, and Yoda’s council chair. This pricing certainly feels reasonable particularly when both Yoda and Gree are new iterations of their characters and not re-packs or minor tweaked repaints. The council chair probably makes the set although the problem here is that Hasbro is unlikely to ever commit to and then release a full set of Jedi Council members with chairs - although it is feasible we may get to see a few more of them in the future using Jedi Council members already release repacked into a deluxe format with their appropriate Jedi Council seat. Tamashii Nation Live 2024 is underway and with it has come a number of new previews of upcoming S.H. Figuarts figures. The S.H. Figuarts Lord of the Rings line had been teased last week. We now get sight of the launch figures which include Aragorn who comes with his sword, bow, quiver, removable soft goods elven cape, Joining Aragorn is Frodo Baggins along with Gollum. Frodo also features soft goods elven cloak, Sting, and a hand holding the One Ring We also got a look at future figures with a preview image of Legolas. And continuing the Middle Earth theme, it was also confirmed that S.H. Figuarts will also be releasing figures from War of the Rohirrim.
