2025 marks the 20th Anniversary of Star Wars Episode 3, Revenge of the Sith, and as has been customary over recent years & anniversaries a new logo has been revealed for the 20th Anniversary releases. If Hasbro follows suit with prior years, we can perhaps expect some Anniversary Releases themed around Revenge of the Sith, what could these look like based on what figures we've had so far and what may be heading our way? Considering the roles of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker in ROTS and the age of their existing figures a revamp or full revisit may be on the cards with Anakin also potentially being valid as an Ahsoka 'flashback' release with tweaks. We've also seen Palpatine in his disfigured state so far in the Black Series. The 20th Anniversary may present an opportunity for a Chancellor Palpatine - perhaps themed around the face-off with Mace Windu. And this may then lead to some new or tweaked Jedi to battle him - particularly Saesee Tiin, and Agen Kolar to go with our existing figures of Mace Windu and Kit Fisto - the latter also potential figures for revisits in 2025. Jedi and Sith aside, the Clones of course play a particularly large role in ROTS and Order 66 in particular and we already have confirmation of a 20th Anniversary release of Commander Cody and a general Galaxy Collection slot for Commander Bacara. They might be joined by some of the other Clones who feature in the Order 66 sequences or afterward - although I suspect most of these will be repacked or updated using the newer Clone Trooper body. In the 'outside' chance box are a handful of characters who are unlikely to top any fan's choice, but who would make impressive 6-inch scale figures. "We... have blood to spare." The Outriders, as seen in Avengers: Infinity War, were released as an army-building 2-pack in 2024. The set was the first of the Marvel Legends Army Building sets to be based on the MCU and was a Fan Channel / Amazon release including being sold by Hasbro Pulse. Rather than a window box, the Outriders set comes in a closed box decorated with artwork that depicts the Outriders attacking from Infinity War and this wraps around both sides of the closed box. The rear of the box has images of the figures confirming the contents as two Outriders and the size of the figures.  Inside the box, the Outriders are packed into two internal clear trays that stack the two figures head to toe to minimise the space required. These two trays separate to decant the figures, with one alternative head included in one of the trays.  The Outriders are completely new sculpts and they stand around 7.7 inches tall (19.6cm) which is accurate to their onscreen proportions while fighting the Avengers. Both figure bodies are identical, cast in a grey almost black plastic with a muscular and scarred texture built into the cast parts and a ridge of spines down the back of the body. Markings are added in gold and cover various parts of the Outrider body including markings down the chest and abdomen, arms, and legs. As seen on screen, the Outriders have four arms with a second pair protruding from the centre of the abdomen. Each of the four arms is tipped in four finger claws with the claws also painted in gold.  The Outriders differ initially in the head sculpt. The first features a simple head with its ‘face’ made up of an open jaw painted with gold detailing. Inside the mouth, we have red decor, while the back of the head features a ridge of spines that connect to those running down the back of the figure. The second figure out of the box comes with a more ornate head with what can be described as angular horns on the side of the head and ‘tusks’ to the side of the open mouth. The paintwork is similar to the first head, with gold-painted teeth, and the horns and tusks are also picked out in gold.  As is usual for Army Building releases, a second standard Outrider head is included which allows you to change the tusked head for a standard version. This allows multiple box sets to be purchased and both figures can then be displayed with mixed head options or all with a standard head. The Outriders have 27 points of pinless articulation, following the standard Marvel Legends joint configuration but with an added 8 joints from the second pair of arms. All four arms can be positioned in a variety of positions with a shoulder joint, bicep swivel, double-joined elbow and wrist pivot all working together. The legs feel more restricted with the shape of the body holding the hip joint from backward movement in particular. While the knees are double-jointed, the ankle rockers are heavily ratcheted with large ‘clicks’ between ratchets which does make standing the Outrider tricky - particularly with the upper body making the Outrider Top heavy. In Infinity War, the Outriders are seen moving on both two legs, and then on all six limbs. Sadly the articulation won’t allow the figure to be posed in the latter - there is not enough movement in the torso joints and the head in particular which doesn't move all too well on a simple ball joint - it would really need to slide backwards down the body to support a six-limbed crawling pose.  It is great to see the Hasbro team still supporting Cinematic releases some years after the movie aired, filling in the gaps in the MCU collections with key characters & enemies such as the Outriders. As the figures are essentially ‘Deluxe’ in size, the price of the Outrider two-pack is circa £60 which may be a touch too rich much considering the usual lower price point of these Army Builder releases, the limited packaging, and the lack of accessories.  The set is of course the first Cinematic Army Builder release and therefore paves the way for future opportunities such as the Chitauri, or even more obscure troops such as the Dark Elves, Ultron Drones or TVA Troopers. “I would die for these colors” Lieutenant Titus was part of the second and final general release wave of McFarlane’s Warhammer 40k series for 2024. The wave would feature Titus and an Imperial Commissar with both figures available as painted or unpainted artist-proof releases. The wave was shipped in the final quarter of 2024 with Titus already sold out and prices accelerating on the secondary market to way beyond the circa £30 RRP.  Unlike most WH40k figures from McFarlane, Titus is based on a video game appearance following suit with the Dark Tide figures from 2022. He is taken from his role in the 2024 Space Marine II video game with the new format packaging also carrying the videogame logo. This new window box, established at the start of 2024, features a white base design with the deep grey and grim gothic backdrop seen on the first releases now moved to the right-hand side spine where the character name is confirmed. An appropriate colour application to the left side spine according to the Chapter or allegiance of the Character, for Titus this side panel is Ultramarines blue and carries the Ultramarines chapter symbol. The rear of the box is turned over purely to an illustration of Titus with no background history or detailing.  Lieutenant Titus utilises some of the Space Marine Intercessory parts that were first released in 2020 when the WH40k line launched. The Marine body is engineered by McFarlane to be modular so as the line expands new shoulder, chest, belt and leg parts are introduced over the basic body and Titus offers some impressive enhancements to the loyalist Marines that have gone before. The body is essentially all cast in blue plastic with a new Imperial winged eagle logo across the chest painted in a metallic gold finish. Both shoulder armour panels appear to be tailored for Titus with the right-hand side featuring a sculpted skull emblem and scroll work that states ‘Ultra’ with Purity Seals added to the side and the bottom of the armoured piece. Moving down the arm we find the wrapped chain that Titus sports in the game around his right wrist as an individual piece cast in grey plastic but left unpainted beyond its base colour. The left shoulder is less detailed but is studded around the side and painted in gold, with an Ultramarines logo in the centre with battle damage scoring down the centre and into the plastic itself.  The belt features further Chapter relics and details including another golden skull icon, a reliquary scroll and for the first time on a Marine, soft goods skirt pieces. Sadly, these fabric pieces are of extremely low quality and come out of the box fraying. They hang unnaturally flat and considering the WH40k Marines are limited in articulation these would have been best served as sculpted parts. The armour concludes with more Ultramarines designs on the lower leg armour, and a further purity seal. The backpack is the same basic design as before but rather than a painted Chapter symbol, the Ultramarines ‘U’ and an inset skull is sculpted onto the backpack and painted in gold.  Titus is the first WK40k release from McFarlane to come with an alternative head. The unmasked head is modelled after the game and while these are improving year-on-year, the likeness and paintwork is still way behind other companies like NECA and Hasbro. The unmasked head features painted details rather than photo printing and while details like the hair, eyes, facial hair, and the service studs are picked out neat enough - there is a cartoon look to the figure which is probably to be expected from a company that focuses heavily on figures from comics and animation. You can swap this out with a helmet head which slots on a small ball joint protruding from the neck ring. The helmet appears to be the same as included with the original Intercessory releases with a skull emblem on the forehead. It is cast in blue with a white painted crest and a central red stripe. For me, the helmeted look provides a more satisfactory finish and it's how I will be displaying my Titus.  Weaponry includes a bolter which is also carried forward from the 2020 Ultramarines Intercessor. This is cast in grey with no further decor. It is designed to fit in Titus’ right hand where a trigger finger is extended from the grip. As has been an issue continually with the line, the hands are very tight and the plastic not soft enough to make weapons grip easy to obtain - you  may need some gentle heat to tease the weapon into place. The same is true of the second weapon, the Thunder Hammer, which is also difficult to put into either of the gripping hands. The Hammer features more detail and decor than the bolter with the hammer head emblazoned with a gold painted sculpted Imperial Eagle.  The bulky Marines feature 18 points of articulation, much of which is restricted in some way by the armour. McFarlane has engineered some enhancements to extend articulation, notably the shoulder pauldrons which sit on their own joints and move up and out when the shoulder joint is raised. The arms therefore are relatively wide ranging but lack any ratcheting, and straight out of the box my Titus's right arm is loose and difficult to pose anywhere outside of a neutral position at his side. The legs can extend out to wider stances, and to walking/running poses in which case you may find the included circular base a benefit to support the figure by way of a single peg that slots into either foot.  Lieutenant Titus represents another step forward for the McFarlane WH40k line and as should be expected as their RRP has jumped considerably since the rebranding of 2024. Titus features much more painted and sculptural detail - something that the WH40k miniatures are renowned for and to date have only been included on the Gold Label Exclusives. Titus features sculpted battle damage, Purity Seals and armour personalisation all of which are crisp in casting and in painting. The paintwork also now feels more dishevelled and worn as the battles of the 40th Millenium should be, and that weathering and battle damage adds much more character. Titus is accurate to his visuals in the game and while the head sculpt is not perhaps to everyone's taste, there is thankfully an alternative head option included. If you are purchasing Titus also be mindful of potential weak arm joints, and hands that are tough to open for weapon grip without some gentle application of heat. The release of Titus came just ahead of the Amazon Secret Level anthology series in which he features and that has boosted the figure's desirability. And while the Ultramarines now make up a majority in the McFarlane Marine ranks, I personally would not mind some additions to Titus’s squad of a similar quality. As 2024 draws to a close, it's time for our annual look back at our favourite action figure releases of the year as a whole. In total I've posted 170 action figure reviews this year with supporting showcase videos on our growing YouTube channel. These have been a mix of new releases and also a good slice of older releases as I continue to catch up from my 'blip' year in 2022. This is not a top 10 as such and only covers the action figure lines that I personally collect. It is also driven by the figures released in 2024 that I have purchased and received. Everyone will have differnt thoughts on their favourites of 2024 so please share yours in the comments section or over on our social channels which now includes Bluesky Lord of the Rings (Diamond Select) We start with an easy category, that of Diamond Select's Lord of the Rings figures which saw just four mainline releases in 2024 and an SDCC exclusive that was sadly not available for overseas collectors. There has also been an issue in the UK with stocks of Merry and Pippin (Series 7) delayed at most retailers, and this narrowed down our choice considerably. But, even if Merry and Pippin had been in hand there was only going to be one choice for LOTR figure of the year, everyone's favourite gardener Samwise Gamgee . As a release, Samwise shows off the range of the DST line with a great sculpt, good decor, and a raft of accessories and parts that perhaps had been missing in the earlier releases allowing for plenty of options for displaying Sam from a number of scenes across the LOTR Trilogy Marvel Legends (Cinematic) Moving on to one of my larger collections and Hasbro's Marvel Legends series. In this space, I should clarify that I do only collect figures from the Cinematic Universe and associated Disney+ and Sony properties. 2024 has been a pretty slow year for Cinematic releases, particularly with only one Marvel movie to choose from - and no support immediately obvious for the Sony releases outside of the animated Spider-Verse. There was a pool of just 12 releases to choose from for 2024 and four of these were repacked figures in either the new Marvel Studios packaging (Spider-Man & Iron Man) or the Deadpool Legacy collection (Deadpool & Logan). The only wave to be released (such as it was) was from Deadpool & WOlverine and sadly due to spotty distribution and delays, we do not have these figures as yet. Despite this, I am making the call based on what I have seen that the Wolverine figure would definitely have been an inclusion in our favourite releases with its iconic costume finally brought to life as well as what looks to be an amazing head sculpt. What remained of the 2024 releases were all deluxe releases of sorts, and it was a difficult decision picking just a couple of these for our end-of-year listing. In the end, we selected Man-Thing over Venom, Colossus and Carnage. While he is a re-work of an existing comic figure, the execution of this conversion is impressive. It also brings us a very obscure cinematic character into our collections, which bodes well for the future and Hasbro's mindset to these releases. Our other choice was the Deluxe Army Building 2-Pack of the Outriders from Avengers: Endgame. These will be reviewed in full in early 2025 as we only received them very recently - but in hand, they are impressive figures with some well-engineered articulation. They also represent (finally) a desire to release army-building figures for the MCU which may finally open the door to the Chitauri and more. Nb. The Captain America Brave New World figures arrived as of the 29th December so were too late for this article and will be considered as 2025 releases. Doctor Who The Character Options Doctor Who line will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2025 and continues to bring us new releases each year. thanks in the main to a partnership with B&M in the UK. This year also saw a return to mainstream retail with the release of new figures from the Ncuti Gatwa 15th Doctor era. Our first pick for 2024 is from these new 15th Doctor releases. While the retailer releases of the 15th Doctor and Ruby Sunday are impressive, the variant two-pack releases as a Character Options exclusive gave us a marginally better offering across both the Doctor and Ruby with costumes based on their first adventure together and a wider breadth of accessories For Classic Who I've picked another Character Options Exclusive and the Ruins of Skaro 3-Pack that brought the Movellans into the line as well as re-releasing the highly sought after Bomb Dalek back into circulation. While these releases from Character are restricted and usually just one set per year they continue to allow collectors the opportunity to expand the range Warhammer 40k (McFarlane) The only McFarlane property I currently collect is their Warhammer 40k series which reached its 4th year in 2024 with a big overhaul on its packaging and some changes in the format of the figures released. The year saw four full waves released although one of them was a very limited US-only Target exclusive making the Blood Angel Reiver, Ymarl Genestealer, and Iron Warrior almost impossible to find particularly here in the UK. Of the figures we did get in 2024 my first pick is the Ultramarine Terminator releases, a figure that finally expanded the Space Marines into their Tactical Dreadnaught Armour. While the figure is not perfect and suffers from articulation issues as well as being quite lightweight vs the Marines themselves it does present a new avenue for McFarlane to explore and the possibility in the future for further Chapter Terminators including some of the more reknowned Terminator units such as Deathwing or the Grey Knights. My other pick for WH40k is the most recent release of Lieutenant Titus from the Space Marine II videogame. Titus represents another step forward for the McFarlane series coming with an alternative head for the first time as well as improved decor and detailing with weathering and Purity Seals. Our review of Titus will follow in early 2025. Star Wars Black Series There were 98 figures released in the Star Wars Black Series in 2024 including those who were part of multi-packs. That made the Black Series picks some of the hardest to make. In the end I have selected six figures that represent the franchise as a whole. We start with the Original Trilogy which had limited representation across the year, but did give us the Deluxe Momaw Nadon (Hammerhead) expanding our Cantina patrons and of course ticking off another box against the original Kenner figures that have released in the Black Series. The Prequel and Clone Wars era was well served in 2024 with Black Series releases with a particular focus on The Phantom Menance as it celebrated its 25th Anniversary. Our pick from the prequels is the SDCC 2024 release of Darth Maul and his Sith Speeder . The set gave us a brand new Maul figure - who would go on to be released twice more in the year - and his Speeder adding another vehicle into the collection. The Black Series is also continuing to explore the old Expanded Universe (now Legends) and through the Publishing Series brought us a new 4-pack in 2024 based on Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy, particulary The Last Command . While the set featured what were essentially repacks of Luke Skywlaker and Mara Jade, it also gave us a cleverly kitbashed Luuke Clone figure and the highlight - a brilliant Joruus C'Baoth. My final three picks are all taken from the Disney+ properties, starting with Andor as we look forward to Season 2 in the Spring of 2025. It was this second series that promoted a trio of Andor releases in late 2024 and alongide Cassian and K-2SO, the standout for me personally was Dedra Meero . The figure itself is beatufifully crafted with a fantastic likeness, and expands the Imperial Officer ranks perfectly. The Mandalorian has of course been a mainstay of Black Series releases since 2019 and as it celebrated its own 5th Anniversary we were given perhaps the best version of Mando to date - albeit under the Book of Boba Fett banner. The Glavis Ringworld Mandalorian reworked Din Djarin in full with better proportioned armour and a soft goods cloak that works with his jetpack. It was also the first Mando to feature a Darksaber. While the Mines of Mandalore release under The Mandalorian collection was based on the same figure it lacked the soft goods and the jetpack. Our final pick was is from the latest Disney+ Star Wars offering. Skeleton Crew hit out screens in December and at the same time the Black Series put a six figure wave straight into stocks to coincide with the release. Within the wave there was one standout character for fans of the Original Trilogy in particular with Captain Brutus bringing the Shistavanen race, first seen in the Cantina scenes, into the Black Series. Brutus features a glorious sculpt but also a significant selection of five different blasters - all with working holsters. Our review of Brutus and the other Skeleton Crew figures will be up in early 2025. Your Choices So those were our picks, but what did you - our readers - think of the figures we reviewed in 2024. We've looked at our blog post visitor numbers for reviews and our YouTube showcase video views to identify two Top 10's from each. Within these, you can see some common favourites including the Ultramarines Terminator from McFarlane Warhammer 40k, The Last Command Set from Star Wars Black Series, and Glavis Ringworld Mandalorian. There are also some interesting picks based on visitor numbers and views including the Fugitive Doctor and TARDIS, Khorne Berserker and Saruman. I am hoping for the same mix of Star Wars Black Series releases from across the various eras and am particularly looking forward to the Shadows of the Empire releases. Marvel Legends will of course see an uptick in release volume in 2025 with three movies incoming as well as the new Daredevil Disney+ series and I the new Captain America, Falcon and Red Hulk are of course already on the way. It will be interesting to see where the Warhammer series goes in 2025 and I cannot predict what we may or may not see - although the recent Amazon Secret Level episode may provide some inspiration. Meanwhile it seems our Lord of the Rings offerings for 2025 are already laid out and I can't wait to add the Witch King to the collection. And where will Doctor Who go in 2025? Will the B&M support, which has been steadily reducing year on year, continue and has the new generel retail releases been successful enough to warrant more new series figures? Revealed via a placeholder listing on Walmart's website in the US is this new NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures release of Krang Shredder. The figure features both Krang and Shredder head options, a selection of hands, a bladed weapon and a bonsai tree. The figure is packed in the TMNT Adventures window box. It is unclear if this is a Walmart Exclusive or when it will be released. The Platinum 'Chase' version of McFarlane's new DC Multiverse Collector Edition Superman is the 'Evil' Superman we see in the Superman III movie from 1983. The repaint of the standard 1978 Christopher Reeves Superman has a darker suit and red eyes. As a chase variant, it is randomly packed into cases of the standard figure. To mark the 70th Anniversary of Godzilla, Tamashii Nations are releasing a 70th Anniversary Special release of Godzilla from Godzilla vs Destroyah (1995) in the S.H. MonsterArts series. The figure will come with extra hands, flame effects and an exclusive 70th Anniversary stand. The figure is a July 2025 release with pre-orders opening on the 9th of January 2025. The new S.H. Figuarts War of the Rohirrim figures previewed earlier this Autumn have now opened for pre-order with a September 2025 release date. Hera will feature alternative expressions, extra hands, and four sword options - long and short, with scabbard and without. The Star Wars Black Series Holiday figures are a variety of Black Series releases, reimagined into a Holiday theme - usually Christmas, but we have seen some Halloween figures over the years. Our festive pick this year for review is the 2022 Holiday Scout Trooper, released as part of the 2nd full wave of Holiday figures and exclusive to Walmart in the US. The Christmas-themed figures are packed into a light-coloured giftwrap inspired box with red trim and snowflake detailing using the helmet design of the Scout Trooper figure. The Holiday Scout Trooper is a repaint of the existing Black Series Imperial Scout Trooper with a focus on the festive combination of red and green. The undersuit is coloured in a deeper red, while bright red is used on the knee and groin panels and green on the shoulder, elbow and wrist panels. The boots also feature green but with white stripes. The body is concluded with a printed ‘Christmas Jumper’ inspired design on the chest which features Grogu. The Scout Trooper helmet is cast in red, with a green visor and with some component details picked out on the mouthpiece and at either side of the cowled visor.  A holster on the right shin carries the Scout Trooper hold-out blaster. These holiday edition accessories are often painted up like Hasbro Nerf weapons with the hold-out blaster having a white body with an orange barrel and grey grip. It fits into the Scout Trooper’s right hand when not holstered, with the right hand having the top two fingers split from the bottom two to sit into the grip of the blaster.  The Holiday Troopers nearly always feature a Christmas-themed creature of sorts, and for the Scout Trooper, the Hasbro team has taken the saddle bag with Grogu from the 2019 Imperial Remnant Scout Trooper and given it a festive makeover. The bag is now bright red, with white trim and a black strap. It sits over either shoulder of the Trooper, with the flap able to be opened to reveal Grogu’s head within. Grogu is not given any Xmas decor and is the same green-painted head as seen on the main releases. The flap can be closed if you want to hide Grogu away, with twin straps slotting into sockets on the main bag and holding the piece closed.  The Scout Trooper has 20 points of articulation, including double joints on the knees and elbows. Designed originally to ride a Speeder Bike, there are plenty of posing options available with the joints tight and secure and able to hold in a number of posing options with or without the two accessories.  The Holiday Edition figures are certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, but do follow a theme that pre-dates the Black Series with Hasbro Holiday Editions from across the years. I find them a bit of fun for the Festive period and am trying to pick up a new one each Christmas to expand my display, sitting alongside some of our Chrimbo decorations for a broader display. "The 12th Cyber Legion monitors this entire quadrant” “I need to find the Doctor, and I need to show him this” “You are Complete” The second batch of B&M Exclusive Doctor Who Sets from Character Toys was released in December 2024 and featured just two sets - a new addition to the History of the Daleks collection, and this 3-pack titled Friend & Foes of the Doctor.  The set arrives in the packaging established in 2023 for the Invasion of Time set and uses a white and blue outer box with a TARDIS illustration in the corner. The set name is confirmed in the bottom right corner and above this a foil ‘Limited Edition’ sticker. The contents are then listed a bit further up in a diamond call-out box. The set is badged as from the 10th Doctor era, but only actually contains one figure from the Tennant run with the Clockwork Man from The Girl in the Fireplace. The other figures, as detailed on the rear of the box, are taken from Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor run with River Song from The Pandorica Opens, and the Cyberman from A Good Man Goes to War. The rear of the box also expands on the variations these figures represent and their place in each of their appropriate episodes. These ‘collector’ boxes have sadly now moved to a blister card within the main box that means they cannot be repackaged once opened with the blister having to be pulled away from the backing card in order to access the figures. The set also has two variants with two different Cyberman split 50:50 across the production run, which does mean double-buying for those completists who want all the variants.  We start with the Cyberman which is built using the 2006 figure. These were envisaged to be the original Mondasian Cybermen during the events of A Good Man Goes to War, so the figure has had the Cybus Industries logo removed from the central chest panel and a circular decal applied instead. The original figure has always been well-proportioned and detailed, with this 2024 model enhanced with what looks to be a brighter silver finish and darker two-tone greys in the connective joints.  The Cyberman is accurate to the episode, but the variant Cyberleader with painted black handlebars is more of a ‘what if’ scenario. In the show, the actual Cyberleader (or Controller) had the transparent dome and while I can understand why there are calls for this to have been used instead, that would have made the production run more complicated vs simply painting the same head mold slightly differently on half of the sets.  The Cyberman comes with the ‘Reaper’ gun first seen on the Mickey Smith release in 2007. Like the Cyberman, the gun too has a decor update with a black finish and gunmetal dry brushed detailing. The weapon has been packed with a Cyberman in a B&M set in 2016 with a gripping hand that allowed the weapon to be held in the left hand. In this set, they have made the decision to go with the Cybercontroller hands which are more open and this makes the gun difficult to grip in either hand. The articulation is 14 points in total, and while the hands make it look like a two-handed pose should be possible, the limited arm movement blocks this. All in all the Cyberman is limited to wooden posing in neutral stances or with some level of movement in the arms to point the gun assuming it doesn’t simply fall out of the grip. Our second figure is a new version of River Song. This is based on the scenes at the start of The Pandorica Opens where River steals the TARDIS painting by Van Gogh from Liz 10. To replicate this for the set, the original Pandorica Opens River Song - in boots, a fur-lined coat - has been taken and cast entirely in black. While the trousers and boots are pretty accurate to those opening scenes, the coat really should have been a collared shirt and not a bulky jacket. Over the outfit is a softer plastic belt, also in black with silver painted details, with a holster then fixed to River’s right thigh.  The head sculpt is new and is a good likeness to Alex Kingston and in keeping with the established aesthetics of this long-running Doctor Who line. This new River head sculpt features a ponytail with the hair reworked and painted a sandy finish. The head is cast in a flesh tone, which is not fully matched with the painted flesh on the neck which does stand out.  River has 16 points of articulation including the inclusion of a boot cut swivel instead of the thigh, and a duel joined shoulder which means the arms can move away from the body as well as rotating in full. This makes her the most articulate figure in the set. She also comes with a gun in a gunmetal finish that can sit in her holster or in her right hand. Neither fit is snug and the gun falls out of the holster far too easily. The hand grip is a little more secure, but the trigger finger won't engage to hold the weapon securely.  Our final figure is a new variant of the Clockwork Man. To date, we’ve had blue, black, and purple versions of this figure which dates back as far as 2007. As detailed on the back of the box, there were two versions of the Gold Clockwork man scene in The Girl in the Fireplace, and therefore if B&M and Character wanted to put a variation into the set the more desirable variant might have been a recoloured Clockwork Man with varied hair piece or tweaks to the outfit. What we do get is a gold-clad Clockwork Driod with plenty of paint applications from the golden trim of the tailed coat to the buttons on the waistcoat or the buckles on the shows. The face is similarly detailed with the crooked red smile and black eyes contrasted by the pale white finish of the face and golden trim around the eyes. The hair piece is a grey finish and textured, enhanced further with a lighter grey wash. Like all prior Droids, the head is removable to expose the clockwork head underneath. This is a clear plastic dome inside of which we can see some golden clockwork workings. The Droid also comes with the blade weapon that slots into a socket in the sleeve of the right arm. The blade piece is silver with further gold components on the outer side.  The Clockwork Droid features a very low articulation count of just 11 in total. The legs don’t have much movement beyond a neutral stance, while the arms can only extend outward with a 90-degree elbow bend. The head is fixed so doesn’t rotate with or without the mask in place, and the only other movement is a waist joint which will rotate under the cut of the waistcoat.  The 2024 Friend & Foes of the Doctor set feels a bit of a mismatch throughout. It is badged as a 10th Doctor Era release, yet 2/3rds of the set are actually from the 11th Doctor. The Cyberman is an impressive decor update on prior releases, but the Cyberleader variant is not quite accurate and is unlikely to temp all but the most completist of collectors to double-dip on the set. The River Song is visually OK and has a good level of articulation, but also lacks screen accuracy.
