“You destroyed us, Doctor. The Dalek race died in your inferno, but my ship survived. Falling through time, crippled but alive!” The History of the Daleks Set, number 19, was released in limited quantities in late December 2024 with further stocks then shipping in early January 2025. As with all the ‘History’ Sets it is a B&M Stores Exclusive, produced by Character Toys. The sets had followed a chronological story order until 2023 and had reached the 9th and 10th Doctor era’s that same year before going back to fill in the gap created when they skipped Resurrection of the Daleks. The Parting of the Ways set follows on from a story perspective from the set dual numbered as 16 and 17 covering both Dalek and then skipping Parting of the Ways to do Army of Ghosts. Confused? So are we. Regardless of continuity going all a bit ‘Timey Wimey’ the latest History Set follows the design principles dictated by the current BBC Doctor Who marketing designs with a white box and TARDIS design and utilising the diamond Doctor Who logo put in place for the 60th Anniversary. An accent colour is now included around the packaging which is meant to be aligned to a particular Doctor era although we haven’t had enough sets yet to see the full scheme. This is a 9th Doctor set and given an orange colouring while the aforementioned 16/17 set was badged as the 10th Doctor with a blue design. The box front is adorned with the usual diamond callouts confirming the contents and the source material, and the foil ‘Limited Edition’ sticker remains in place. The rear of the box is text-heavy and covers almost the entirety of the Parting of the Way storyline rather than an overview or top-line synopsis. There is no background on the Dalek props for this story as we’ve seen on other sets. There are two variants equally produced in the shipped sets with half the packs including a standard Gold Dalek Drone, and the other half featuring a Gold Assault Dalek with claw arm attachment. There is nothing on the box to specify the difference, you can only check on the version by checking out the Gold Dalek arm within the set. While this appears to be a collector box, the Daleks are actually sealed in a shaped plastic tray onto the internal backing card - this means that once the set is opened it cannot be repacked as the backing card is ripped and damaged in the process. The Daleks are produced using the most recent (2008) modern Dalek body. This is the more accurate shape after the earlier models were created with an oversized base. The Dalek Drone is cast in bronze plastic with a brighter gold colouring painted onto the roundels, across the slats of the mid-section, and around the housings of the gun and sucker arms. The base is a grey colour and weathered with dry-brushed silver to give a scratched effect. The sucker arm and gun arm are both silver, with a black painted sucker. Sadly, due to the way the sets are packed the sucker arm will most likely be warped. There is also a chance the eye stalk will also be bent - this features a silver shaft, clear rings, and black eyepiece with a painted blue iris. While this Drone is similar to the 2023 version from ‘Dalek’, the last time the New Series Drone in this configuration was released was 2012 as an FX release The Assault Dalek is identical to the Drone in colouring and design including the weathered base. This variant has the sucker arm replaced with a shorter arm that ends in a gold three-prong claw. The Assault Dalek was originally released in 2007 on the older Dalek body and in both a standard version and a darker SDCC variant. This 2024 release corrects the body shape but still uses the claw arm from the original - although it doesn’t look out of place.  The Black Dalek is one of the Emperor’s Guards seen briefly in a wide shot of the Emperor from Parting of the Ways. It has technically been released once before way back at the start of the line in 2005 in the RC packs to create a variation to the standard Drone. This 2024 version is much more accurate both in body shape using the newer body, but also in colouring. It features a black cast body with gold hemispheres. The midsection is the usual bronze with gold slats and arm housings. And bronze is also featured on the neck rings before the dome which returns to the mat black finish. Gun arm, Sucker Arm, and Eyestalk all remain the same - while the base of the Black Dalek is now black without any weathering.  The Daleks all feature the same level of articulation with a 360-degree rotating dome and on this an eye stalk that pivots up and down within its housing. The gun and sucker arms have a wider range thanks to a ball joint connection and can move within the extent of the outer housing. The Dalek base is fitted with two fixed wheels and a third rotating caster wheel. These allow the Dalek to be pushed around, while also giving it a slight lift off a surface for a levitating look. The Parting of the Ways History of the Dalek set brings us three new Dalek options for new series collectors across two equally packed variant sets. While some fans might have army built using the 2023 ‘Dalek’ release, the new Drone is much more accurate to the 9th and 10th Doctor multi-Dalek stories and this is the first time in over 12-years that a Drone has been available. The Black Daleks are a nice addition, and unlike Dalek Sec from the 2023 set - these still present an army-building option for your Dalek Empire. The Assault Dalek is also now finally available on the newer body which is another positive for the set. Distribution has posed an issue for the set which has been circulating on the secondary market for x2 or x3 times its shelf price of £21.99. Stocks are now starting to come through, so hopefully those who want the set will have opportunities to purchase it in store. With the release at the end of 2024 of Jude Law's Star Wars Black Series release of his character Nod Na Nawood from Skeleton Crew, an opportunity was presented for collectors of the Marvel Legends Cinematic line to correct (if they wanted) the 2019 release of Yon-Rogg from Captain Marvel. The original figure was based on concept art and Yon-Rogg was given a helmet rather than the unmasked Jude Law as he appeared through much of the film. The Jod figure's head will pop off the neck section by way of some gentle heat (I used hot water). From here, and ideally, while it is still warm and soft, it can drop onto the neck peg of the Yon-Rogg figure. The neck peg on the Marvel Legends body is slightly larger than the Black Series neck so while the Jude Law head slots into place, it is very tight and the head will distort slightly if the head is turned either way - for a fully articulated fit the neck peg should be shaved down. If you choose to customise or kit-bash your figures please be careful when handling knives or sharp objects or when using hot water or when heating up the plastics. As Skeleton Crew draws to a close with the exciting and climatic season finale we take a look at the characters we might expect to see in future waves of Star Wars Black Series figures from Hasbro. The first wave of Skeleton Crew figures gave us Captain Brutus as a key protagonist and the mysterious Jod Na Nawood alongside the main characters of Wim , Neel , Fern and KB and while these were subtitled with 'At Attin' initially indicating further variants, there are no real other costumes for them to warrant any of them with a future release. Pirates have been a key theme across the season and with Pirate Captain Brutus already realised as a 6-inch release it is realistic to think we might see more of his crew in the future. The three most likely for this are the trio of Gunthar, Vane, and Pax who crop up regularly in the Pirate crew scenes - with Vane and Gunther also predominant in the season finale. The three were also featured in early promotional prop displays at D23 last year - meaning their costume details would have been available to Hasbro to begin figure development. Vane's prior role in The Mandalorian gives his character a wider role in the New Republic era and he could happily sit either as a Skeleton Crew or Mandalorian release. The outside choice for a pirate release is that of Benjar Pranic as voiced by Alfred Molina. This would introduce the Ishi Tib species to the Black Series allowing for some potential re-use in the future. I would also expect a Captain Silvo release - maybe as an exclusive - to re-use some of the Jod Na Nawood figure but to put him in his full pirate gear including helmet, coat, and ammo bandoleer. But outside of our pirate crew, has Skeleton Crew provided us with any other potential figure fodder? Considering how much Hasbro likes New Republic-era droids, then the Safety Droids of At Attin might feel like a no-brainer with the potential for some level of Army Building, with or without the stun blaster rifles they carry in the finale. The stumbling block presenting some pause for thought will be the peg warming and clearance prices on other New Republic era droids like HK-87 and the Republic Security Droid. Cute creatures are also a staple of the Star Wars toy line and therefore Kh'ymm could be the next diminutive character to line up with Yoda, the Ewoks, and Grogu. I would also give Pokkit an outside chance too considering her role as a Bounty Hunter and the onscreen presence she brings in her short scenes. The FInale? The season finale did nothing to change our initial list of figures, although it did raise the profile of some of the picks like Vane, Gunther, Kh'ymm, and the Safety Droids. The finale also raised the stocks of Wendle and Fara - although probably not to a level where figures might be an option. Your Picks? The first Hasbro Marvel Legends Fan Stream of 2025 was held on the 17th of January 2025 via the Hasbro Pulse YouTube Channel The panel, hosted as usual by Dan, Ryan, and Dwight, had set expectations ahead of the event confirming a sole Movie reveal and the rest of the content would be comic book based. After a look at the recent Nemesis Wave the team's first reveal was a new X-Men Retro Carded Jean Grey from X-Factor. She comes with two head options as well as extra hands. This one is a Target US Exclusive and a Fan Channel in the UK, Europe and Canada. It will ship in Spring. The movie reveal was, as expected, the Spider-Man: No Way Home Electro which will feature electrical effect pieces. This is a mainstream release and opens for pre-order on 30th January 2025 with a Spring release date. The panel then moved on to a new 'Maximum Series' sub-line of figures which is a deluxe premium line featuring classic Marvel comics characters in their iconic looks. The line starts with a brand new Spider-Man with new sculpt, articulation, alternative heads, web effects, and spider-sense accessory pieces. We then got a full look at the previously teased Rom the Space Knight. He comes with a blaster and effects, and a 1/12 scale comic book of Rom the Space Knight Issue 01 from 1979. Rom is part of a wider wave which also includes Daken The Wolverine from the Dark Avengers who features two head options as well as alternate hands/claws. Daken also features a comic book, a recreation of the Dark Avengers Issue 01. The next reveal was an updated Adam Warlock with his staff, swap out Infinity Gauntlet hand, and a copy of Infinity Gauntlet Issue 01. The fourth figure of the wave is Ultimate Iron Man, a full new sculpt with Ultimate Iron Man Issue 01 comic book. Mile Morales Spider-Man is the fifth figure in the wave with a copy of Ultimate Spider-Man Issue 01 as well as a masked and unmasked head. And the wave concludes with Banshee from X-Men in the classic yellow & green costume and a giant-size X-Men number 01 comic The wave is packed on cardbacks and there is no build-a-figure for the series. Medicom have previewed a new Marvel Cinematic MAFEX release of Erik Killmonger from Black Panther. The figure is in the Golden Jaguar suit and features an unmasked head - and likely a masked alternative. There are also Wakandan tribal weaponry included. We await further details. It was announced today (14th January 2025) that Diamond Comic Distribution has filed a voluntary petition for bankruptcy in the US. While this impacts all assets under the Diamond Comic banner including Gentle Giant and the Diamond Select figure & statue brand, the voluntary petition will allow the business to seek refinancing and to consider the sale of assets to support a restructuring of the business with a deal already agreed for Universal Distribution to pick up Diamond UK distribution. What this means for the industry is as yet unclear. Diamond have indicated there is no change to the distribution of comics or products at this time, but we have to worry about future releases that may or may not now make it to market. NECA has announced three new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ultimate releases from The Last Ronin - The Lost Years! The comic book-based trio are the Nightwatchers Turtles and includes new figures of Leonardo, Donatello, and Michelangelo. Each figure includes alternative heads, hands, and appropriate weaponry.
