- Review: Doctor Who Vortex Edition Third Doctor with electro-plated roleplay Sonic Screwdriver, Character Toys Exclusive
“If you kill me now, you will wonder throughout eternity whether you should have listened to my words.” In late 2024, Character Options launched a new and enhanced range of Doctor Who 5.5 inch figures called the Vortex Editions. These were sold exclusively by Character and featured figures with improved articulation, sculpt, and paint decor than the standard releases. The first release was a bundled two pack featuring Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th Doctor and Ruby Sunday. Roll forward to March 2025 and the next release in the Vortex Edition line was announced as a new version of Jon Pertwee’s Third Doctor, bundled with an electro-plated roleplay sonic screwdriver. The set shipped just 2 days after it was announced, and arrived from Character in an outer cardboard shipper but without any protective packaging. The outer shipper was squared, while the Vortex packaging features a cut out corner, leaving some packages arriving damaged where the void between inner and outer box was crushed or penetrated during shipping. The Votex packaging itself is white as a base colour with an orange hued vortex design surrounding the window and also on the diamond name plate - we assume this is the assigned colour for the Third Doctor era. The usual TARDIS image sits bottom left, while the current Doctor Who logo sits at the top. The corner cut outs mentioned above are now limited to the top right only, an immediate variation on the Vortex Edition boxes as the first two releases featured a cut out on both top and bottom right corners. Further diamond call outs around the window confirm the figure as “High deco Vortex Edition Figure” and that it comes “With Accessories”. At the other side of the window, the call out diamonds turn their attention to the included Sonic Screwdriver and confirm it as a “Deluxe Electro-Plated Sonic” and featuring “Multiple Sound FX!” The box sides are relatively simplistic using the white backdrop and with the newer Doctor Who (Whoniverse) logo text. The left hand side features a wrap around of the orange vortex and over this is the wording “The Third Doctor”, it is unclear if this is confirming the figure or the era on which it is based - the Ncuti Gatwa figures didn’t include this wording. The back of the box follows the usual principle of being entirely text based with a lengthy background about the Third Doctor and confirming the outfit of the figure is based on that from The Daemons (1971). To the side of this we have repeated diamond call-outs about the sonic and a larger version top left that talks more about the Vortex Edition line as featuring a “higher specification deco applied over base colour plastics for extra details”. There is no reference here to improved joints as was included in this call out on the 15th Doctor and Ruby Sunday figures. The set continues to use very visible white cotton ties to secure the figure, which does detract from a mint in box display. Once opened the backing design is revealed in full as the roundels from the classic TARDIS, which is a nice variation to the repeated coloured Vortex seen on the first packaging. The Third Doctor figure is the base established way back in 2009 when the first Jon Pertwee was released. The figure includes a pair of black suited trousers with gloss black shoes, a red jacket with extremely delicate grey trim and fastenings - a huge improvement on the more heavy handed paint we’ve seen on this jacket previously. Under the jacket is a frilled white shirt with the frill visible at the cuffs of the sleeves and between the open section of the jacket. The Doctor is wearing a neck tie which best showcases the Vortex Edition deco coming with a green base colour and brown and white patterning which imitates the costume, while not being able to replicate the pattern at such a small scale. The headsculpt is the huge selling point of the set, only the second ever Jon Pertwee likeness and much more themed around his earlier seasons with shorter hair. It is a huge improvement on the likeness and also you can see the newer deco techniques with much more realistic eyes, lip colour, two tone hair colour and perhaps some subtle skin shading. vs 2018 Third Doctor 'Time Monster' figure (right) The cape is an individual piece in softer plastic and again from the 2009 Sea Devils release and having been re-used multiple times since. It is black as a base colour with much made about the purple lining deco which is bright and crisp, but nothing immediately spectacular - and our version even has splashed purple on the black, although thank fully this is under one of the arms. The cloak can be removed with a bit of patience, utilising the slits down from the main arm hole to manouver it over the arms and off. Underneath is a fully sculpted and painted figure, providing a second variation of the figure and also as seen in The Daemons when the Doctor removes his cape. The Doctor comes with two accessories, the first of which is his sonic screwdriver scaled for the figure and the same piece included in the original Third Doctor releases starting in 2009. This is impressive in its execution considering the size and features a much more detailed silver base with clear yellow, red and black markings down the main body and red around the emitter at the head. It’s designed to fit into the Doctor’s right hand, and does so snugly initially out of the box - but be warned that this grip can be loosened after using the second accessory. The second piece is the Crystal of Kronos as seen in The Time Monster (1972), another recycle piece originally included with The Master in the Time Monster set from 2011. The piece is a black shaft with translucent crystal formation extending out from the base. This also fits in the right hand, but due to the wider diameter of the grip I found the Doctor’s right hand immediately stretched meaning the Sonic didn’t sit quite as well afterwards. Accessory three is also not directly complementary to the figure, a Giant Maggot as seen in The Green Death (1973). The Maggot is where Character Toys have introduced a variation into the set, setting up the packaging to incorporate three variations of Maggot and shipping the sets with a random single Maggot included. That means the absolute completists, or those wanting a group of Maggots, will need to buy multiple sets - and because these are randomly packed there is an element of difficulty in doing so. There is then a further issue that Character has limited the set to two pieces per household, putting another barrier in the way of a complete set. vs 2009 Green Maggot release (right) The Maggots are as originally released in 2009 with The Green Death set, and your maggots will vary in terms of head position with one flat to the floor, one partly raised, and one fully raised. Each is painted with a cream base colour, and over this a green slime application. A brown wash adds a 'soiled effect' while the visible open mouth is painted with pink inner and white teeth. The newer variant is a brighter green than the old release, while the skin tone is darker. The Doctor comes with the usual articulation as has been standard for the Doctor Who line up to the point Character launched the Vortex Edition. There are nine points of articulation in total, including visible pins at both knees and elbows. With no ankle rockers, the legs will be limited in their positions, although the hips and knees allow for wider stances, and walking/running positions. The arms can’t move outward at the shoulders due to a fixed single axis joint, with rotation included at the bicep, which remains prone to popping out when turned. The elbows bend to 90 degrees only, while the wrist joints are a single rotation on the inserted peg. The final joints are in the rotation of the waist and again at the neck, which allows the new head sculpt to turn to either side - but not fully, as the head clashes with the collar of the shirt after a short turn. The other half of the set, and more than 50% of the perceived value, is the electro-plated Sonic Screwdriver. This is a 1:1 role play piece and is as previously released in the Doctor Who line, but now electro-plated giving it a high polished metal finish. Over the eletco-plated metal look body are the classic markings with a black trim to the base, a yellow upper band with black rings and an upper red collar. The head of the Screwdriver is a burgundy piece with a central silver emitter. The Screwdriver features included sound FX which are activated by retracting the upper shaft which withdraws down into the body. Doing this one generates the standard sonic noise, while doing it twice in quick succession creates a thrumming noise. Quality-wise wise this is still a plastic device, and will be subject to wear to the electro-plating when handled extensively. It is unable to stand on its own and there is no display stand included, so collectors will need an aftermarket solution if displaying it unboxed. The set is the first of five Character have planned for 2025 and is priced at £44.99 with free delivery. While the price point was initially perceived as high, the usual price for an electro-plated sonic has been between £25 and £30 if you look at the recent 14th Doctor release - giving the figure and accessories a value of between £15 and £20. This is in line with the first Vortex release figures and the recent carded releases which were sold at £17.99 each. But it is this Vortex Edition bracket that perhaps is the part to cause concern considering it was badged initially as new figures, with improved articulation and deco - with this Third Doctor release now only featuring improved deco. Perhaps expectations might have been better managed initially to pave the way for these new sets. Alongside the other releases from The Daemons For fans of Doctor Who and the Classic Era in particular, the set extends the figures from The Daemons to that of the Doctor, The Master and Boc, which is a nice trio for display. It is just a pity that the accessories are not from the same story and are recycled from past releases rather than adding in complementary accessories like a torch or the trowel used to ward of Bok. The new Jon Pertwee head is impressive, and while fans immediately speculated on further re-use of the younger head - Al Dewar of Character has already stated online that this will be the only use of the head. The set will appeal to roleplay Sonic collectors also, with the Electro-plating improving the visuals even if this is essentially the guts of the older release. - Review: Marvel Legends Black Panther (Shuri), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Special Release
“I am the Black Panther, and I have come for retribution!” Ahead of the cinematic release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Hasbro released a mixed wave of Marvel Legends figures including those from the movie alongside comic book adjacent characters. While the wave included movie figures of Nakia, Namor and Okoye alongside an updated Everett Ross from the first movie, there was no movie Black Panther in the wave, only a comic book release accompanied by a Hatut Zeraze. This was likely due to confidentiality with Disney & Marvel heavily protecting the fact that Shuri would take up the Black Panther mantle in the film. This omission was corrected in early 2023 with the release of a single Shuri Black Panther figure. The figure was not exclusive, nor linked to any wave and simply sat as a single release in the short-lived plastic free packaging series, coming without any window and using artwork and photography to depict the content. Black Panther is a brand new sculpt recreating Shuri’s suit as seen in Wakanda Forever. Like the prior releases of T’Challa the suit is cast entirely in black plastic featuring an embossed texture and more deeply cut sculpted panel lines. A selection of these lines within the suit are then picked out with gold paint, with a small amount of silver used on the upper chest and on the thighs. Despite the slim profile of these suit lines, the paint application in the main is neat and tidy. The gold colour does struggle against the base black and looks muted in places, while the reverse of the figure is devoid of any painted detail at all save some triangular panels round the lower legs. The Shuri Black Panther helmet is similar in styling to those we’ve seen previously with a Panther shaped mouth piece, nose and pronounced ‘ears’ at the top. Shuri’s facial ‘dot’ markings are recreated on the suit as silver details with further silver lines under the eyes, and on the eye panels themselves. A couple of gold lines can then be found further up on the helmet and extending to the rear. While T’Challa Black Panther figures nearly always featured both a masked head and an unmasked Chadwick Boseman head, there is no place in this set for an unmasked Letitia Wright headsculpt, which is disappointing. What we do get is a solitary pair of alternative hands allowing Shuri in her suit to be displayed with either clenched fists or extended Panther clawed hands. Both hands use the same textured black base as the suit and also feature small sections of gold markings. Articulation is pinless and pretty much unencumbered by any part of the costume. There are 18 points of articulation in total, a fairly set standard for many Legends figures, but again less than was given to the T’Challa Panther figures, with Shuri notably short on butterfly shoulders and with a simple torso ball joint rather than the full torso pivot. So while arms and legs have a full range of motion, the torso lacks the crunch for some of the more dynamic positions we see when Shuri is fighting in costume. There is enough to have some variation in display but not as much as you’d get from a comparable T’Challa Black Panther. Despite essentially being the main protagonist of Wakanda Forever, the Marvel Legends release of Shuri’s Black Panther is certainly lacking when rightly compared to figures of her brother T’Challa from the original movie and subsequent appearances. Not only is this 2023 release lacking an unmasked head for Shuri, the articulation is scaled back and therefore limiting on posing options for a character that is intended to be seen as agile and cat like. Visually, the figure is on point, albeit with the gold maybe needing to be a bit brighter but that doesn’t quite balance out the other issues. At the moment this remains your only Shuri Black Panther option for the Cinematic collection and while it does the job, there is very much a feeling of what it could have been with a few more tweaks. ep Track of all the Marvel Legends figures from Hasbro at our comprehensive Marvel Legends Collectors Database & Checklist If you are reading this via a 3rd party website that is importing our newsfeed, please come and visit us directly and give us a follow on Facebook , Twitter , and YouTube . - Review: Marvel Legends Ironheart (Riri Williams), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Deluxe Release
"Your mother protected me like I was one of her own. The least that I could do is try to return the favor." Ahead of the cinematic release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Hasbro released a selection of Marvel Legends figures from the movie including a wave of single figures featuring Nakia, Namor, Okoye, Agent Ross and Attuma - and a deluxe release of Riri Williams’ Ironheart. The new Ironheart figure was packed into the wider deluxe packaging but was released during the short-lived plastic free packaging series, coming without any window and using artwork and photography to depict the contents. Ironheart is a deluxe release, newly tooled and based on the suit Riri Williams is wearing at the very end of Wakanda Forever. This is cast predominately in red gloss plastic with black panels and gold trims painted on top. The chest reactor line is picked out in light blue while additional components like the gear around the thighs, and vents on the legs, are finished in silver. There are two large plug in boosters that connect to sockets on the figure's back to complete the Ironheart armoured look - these are not overly secure and can frustratingly fall off with any minor handling or a knock. Again, these boosters are red gloss cast with black trim and silver booster segments. The figure stands at 6.5 inches tall but looks proportionally taller thanks to the lengthened legs and their incorporated boosters - pretty much in keeping with the suit we see on screen. You can choose from two head options for Ironheart, the first an unmasked Riri Williams head that is sculpted with as slight smirk on her face rather than a neutral look. It's an OK likeness to actor Dominique Thorne with the 3d facial printing adding further realism to the eyes. The hair piece is part of the overall sculp tbut still features quite a crisp hairline. The colouring is black with brown inlays around the plaited sections. Two ‘buns’ are included at the back where Riri has tied up her long hair for use in the suit. The unmasked head does look marginally too high on the neck peg. The masked head is the final element of the Ironheart helmet and this is again red gloss plastic with a black central section, gold trim and light blue visor. The heads can be swapped simply enough, and by including both masked and unmasked versions you can pose Riri holding the helmet - if indeed the suit works that way and is not nanotechnology. Accessories are plentiful and are likely the key driver behind the Deluxe status. We have two pairs of hands to choose from with a pair of clenched fists, and a second pair with the hand extended to fire the central repulsors. These also include a central socket on the palm that can incorporate one of the included effect pieces. The hands can be displayed as they come on the figure, or by adding the extended wrist weapons, which are black gloss parts with gold trim. These are fitted by taking off the hand, fitting the extension and then resetting the hand. There is also a larger fully extended weapon version for the left hand only which starts with the black casing and then extends out to two silver prongues with inlaid blue repulsor panels. This weapon also features a softer plastic pipe that connects to the weapon and backward to a matching socket on the jet packs. This one fits in the same way, although you can’t put the hand back on when this, the largest of Ironheart’s weapons, is deployed. To go with the weaponry are a selection of effect pieces. We start with the usual Iron-Man blasts in a very translucent blue. These slot into the sockets on the hands for firing effects, or onto the feet for a flight position. You can also use these with a pair of smoke swirls that sit around the repulsor blasts to create a smoking effect, having been cast in a translucent grey/black plastic. The final effect pairing is a set of slimline blast effects that slot into the jet pack to the rear - again helping with a flight position if you want to go down that route using an aftermarket stand. Ironheart has just 16 points of articulation, all pinless. These start at her feet, which are the least articulated as rather than a standard rocker, the entire foot is on a single pin hinge that rocks it back and forward in one direction but has no lateral movement. Above this there are a pair of single knee joints, some thigh swivels slotted behind the thigh armour and ball jointed hips. The leg joints are all tight and secure, and Ironheart is simple enough to stand and to support her own weight, and expanded weaponry and thrusters. The torso features a ball joint with a relatively good range, and a neck joint that permits both heads to fully rotate as well as some degree of tilt forward, backwards, and sideways. This does come with a partly visible neck peg when using the unmasked Riri Williams head. Arms include a standard wrist joint with pivot, double jointed elbows and a set of ball joint shoulders that also incorporate the upper shoulder armour. While the shoulder armour moves with the joint, it does prevent the arms from being raised up at the sides, even when rotated. This all allows the arms some level of posing, but not to the extent you would perhaps want from an armoured suit with blasters on either arm - with the blasters themselves also restricting further movement when engaged as they overlap the elbows. The Ironheart design, seen at the end of Wakanda Forever, has been translated reasonably well into this figure with its stark red colour scheme trimmed in black and gold. Proportionally it does look lengthened at the legs, and with some limitations on articulation its not overly easy to pose in some of the ways we see it fight on screen. The unmasked head is a good likeness without being spectacular, and the additional weapon options are a good way of allowing variation to the suit, much in the way the Infinity War Iron-Man was given his nano-weaponry. The effects are not everyone’s cup of tea, but add some character to the suit, which can be posed in flight pose but needs an aftermarket stand to take its weight. Ironheart, like much of the Wakanda Forever figure line, did seem to struggle at retail, driven in part with plastic-free packaging. It sat well under retail price for some time, and is still easy enough to source at time of writing, a couple of years past release. ep Track of all the Marvel Legends figures from Hasbro at our comprehensive Marvel Legends Collectors Database & Checklist If you are reading this via a 3rd party website that is importing our newsfeed, please come and visit us directly and give us a follow on Facebook , Twitter , and YouTube . - Review: Marvel Legends Attuma (BAF), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Attuma Build-a-Figure Wave
"Chi'kunalook estali'niti ta'witi [you’re not worth my blade]” Ahead of the cinematic release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Hasbro released a mixed wave of Marvel Legends figures including those from the movie alongside comic book adjacent characters. From Wakanda Forever we got new figures of Nakia, Namor, and Okoye along with an updated Everett Ross who was badged as from the original Black Panther movie. The wave was rounded out by comic book releases of Black Panther, and Hatut Zeraze and the build-a-figure returned to the Wakanda Forever theme with Attuma, as seen in the movie. The wave was part of the short-lived plastic free packaging series, coming without any window and using artwork and photography to depict the content. The BAF content checklist moving to the side panel, confirming the need to buy all six of the wave to complete your Attuma figure - including the two comic book figures of Black Panther and Hatut Zeraze. With all the pieces collected, assembly is done through the usual connections with arms, legs and head all connecting into the central torso. As is standard, the thigh connections are the hardest to engage and may need some gentle heat to make the plastic more accepting of the connecting piece. Attuma is in essence a standard height Marvel Legends figure and is comparable to Namor from the same wave. His height is however exaggerated by his ornate bone headdress which puts the overall figure another inch or so taller than characters of a similar build. Attuma is built on a blue-skinned cast body, and despite similarities in physique, there is no obvious borrowing of parts from Namor. The tone of the blue is questionable to what we see on screen, which has more green and is more intensive - although that is more from the lighting and post production with the figure most likely based on behind-the-scenes costumes. Attuma features additional body detailing vs what we saw on Namor, notably battle scarring on the torso. Over the base body is Attuma’s Talokan warrior armour which includes bone plated shoulder guards and further spinal bone segments that run down the arms to a bracer which has a bone outer panel and brown inner leather wrap. The boots are dealt with in a similar fashion with a brown ‘wrapped’ effect around shins and feet and bone trim added to the top, down the front and on the top of the foot. Attuma is wearing an added skirt piece in softer plastic that features a brown cast belt with more bone detailing around the clasp. From this runs some fin like panels in very light beige, a front tabard in two shades of brown and with a blue striped section at the top, and an inner skirt piece in a soft purple colour. A similar softer plastic section is included around the neck, again in brown but embedded with teeth in a bone white and with more of the bright aqua blue around the lower section. Round the very back of the skirt is a knife in a holster, but this is sculpted and not a useable accessory, which would have been a neat addition. The head is cast in the same blue as the body and features a transparent breathing mask over Attuma’s nose and mouth. The eyes sit underneath the brow of his large bone coloured head piece with its wide marine creature bone crest. Around the back of the headdress are some softer plastic spines in purple/brown and Attuma’s own black flowing hair. While difficult to see, the face does appear to use facial printing and Attuma wears similar green earrings to those we see on Namor. Attuma is provided with two weapons, both included in the Agent Ross set alongside one of his arms. We start with a club/blade cast in brown with sculpted detailing, picking out the wrapped grip and the texture of the upper club/blade. The only painted detail are the inset teeth along one ridge, painted in bone white. The weapon also features a softer plastic loop at the handle end, butt his has no functionality with the figure and nor do I recal it being seen in the film (I may be wrong). The weapon wielded during nearly all of Attuma’s scenes is the second longer axe weapon that comes with a grey cast shaft and a purple flint textured blade with a metallic sheen. Both weapons fit into either of Attuma’s gripping hands, with sufficient articulation for the longer of the two to be wielded across both hands. Attuma has 18 points of articulation, all pinless, but with much of the articulation facing some level of restriction due to the design of his armour. The legs are held in check by the skirt piece, but support the figure adequately with a range of neutral and action ready stances available. The arms have a bit of resistance thanks to the shoulder armour which is fixed to the arm and provides a blockage to raising the arm directly. It does however rotate and allows the arm to raise up, but this then throws the aesthetics with the shoulder pauldron sitting down the back of the arm and not where it should be. The torso joint, while not restricted, is limited in its movement. And the neck joint - and it is a very visible central neck peg - has restricted movement due to Attuma’s lengthy hair. While there are issues with Attuma, he is a visually impressive figure with plenty of sculpted detail although perhaps a lack of overall vibrancy to the skin tone and the costume. Articulation is good, without being spectacular and certainly a different approach tot he shoulder armour may have helped in the overall posing options for the arms. The split of the wave felt frustrating - as was the case for any wave that had either an MCU or Comic Book BAF that required buying figures from the other side of the Marvel Universe. Since the Attuma wave, we’ve seen some level of shift in this principle, and going into 2025 more of a split between Cinematic and Comic releases. Thanks to a lack of immediate engagement with the wave, partly driven by the windowless packaging, Attuma remains a relatively simple BAF to acquire either through the figures or through purchasing parts on the secondary market. ep Track of all the Marvel Legends figures from Hasbro at our comprehensive Marvel Legends Collectors Database & Checklist If you are reading this via a 3rd party website that is importing our newsfeed, please come and visit us directly and give us a follow on Facebook , Twitter , and YouTube . - Mezco One:12 Collective Conan the Barbarian 'War Paint Edition'
Mezco Toys has shared a preview of their new One:12 Collective Conan the Barbarian figure. The new 6-inch release features Conan in his War Paint and comes with three head options which interchange with two different hair pieces. The set also includes a selection of alternative hands, severed head, amulet and a pair of snakes. Conan is armed with a dagger, his sword and its sheath. The set will come with the usual display base and stand as included on all One:12 Collective releases. Conan is live for pre-orders as of the 13th of March 2025 and is expected to ship between October and December 2025. Conan and his companions emancipate King Osric’s wayward daughter from Thulsa Doom’s stronghold in a savagely covert rescue mission, but at what cost...? Straight from the 1982 cult classic, Conan the Barbarian, Conan dons his camouflage war paint in order to save a king’s daughter for a hefty ransom. This iconic look from the original Conan the Barbarian film includes 3 head portraits featuring the likeness of Arnold Schwarzenegger with interchangeable hairstyles, allowing for multiple distinct looks from the film. Conan comes complete with battle-ready weapons fit for a conqueror, including the Atlantean sword and sheath, and a dagger – both of which can be stored on his belt. Two snakes are included in unique static poses as well as the severed head of one of Thulsa Doom’s followers. The film follows Conan, a warrior seeking revenge against the evil wizard Thulsa Doom and his cult, who ruthlessly murdered his parents. Along the way, Conan battles enemies and forms alliances in a brutal, mythical world.
- Review: Marvel Legends Okoye, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Attuma Build-a-Figure Wave
“You have two choices: you can come to Wakanda conscious or unconscious.” Ahead of the cinematic release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Hasbro released a mixed wave of Marvel Legends figures including those from the movie alongside comic book adjacent characters. The wave was part of the short-lived plastic free packaging series, coming without any window and using artwork and photography to depict the contents. Okoye is released in her Dora Milaje armour as seen during her early scenes in Wakanda Forever. Despite the similarities with the 2018 Build-a-Figure, the only direct re-use evident is that of the upper torso piece. The costume is complex as is the onscreen version starting with the upper clothing which is red as a base, although the upper torso is cast in orange with the red and associated grey trim painted over the top. The orange section leads into an ornate sculpted sash with a mixture of brown, green and yellow decor. This then meets the belt and skirt piece with the sash extending downward into the shirt as a softer plastic piece. The rest of the shirt features a light tan brown colour and straps with a darker brown upper segment around the back. Okokye is wearing dark brown leggings, again sculpted in with the geometric pattern, and knee-high boots using the same base brown plastic colour. The armour is finalised with golden bracers, golden shoulder armour, a gold ‘Panther’ belt buckle and gold neck collar with an added flourish of a splayed necklace sitting as an extra piece around the neck. The headsculpt looks similar, if not the same as the 2018 version, and is a good likeness to Danai Gurira. I do probably still prefer the original figure in terms of the facial printing with more natural looking eyes and a crisper series of head tattoos. The newer figure features more prominent eyes, and these almost look like a return to the painted versions, while the head tattoos feature both red and grey colouring, which doesn’t quite allow them to stand out as much. Okoye comes with the same spear and spear-tip sword as included with the 2018 BAF. For the Wakanda Forever release we’ve lost decor with both seapons cast in a plasticly looking silver. The older version had a painted shaft for the spear, and a painted grip for the sword. These fit into either of Okoye’s gripping hands, with sufficient articulation for two handed posing with the spear. No other hands are included in the set. On paper Okoye comes in with 18 points of articulation, and while the legs have been upgraded with pinless joints, the skirt piece restricts them to very limited movement outside of neutral two-footed stances. The arms lack a butterfly joint, but otherwise move well enough with the weaponry in particular. There is a lot of movement in the torso, which helps battle stances. While the neck joint allows for a full range of head movement, although this comes with a very visible neck peg joint. Considering her 2018 version is similar in design, it was an odd choice to release Okoye again in her Dora Milaje armour for the Wakanda Forever release, particularly in view of the Midnight Angel armour used later in the movie - although this design was probably held back from Hasbro before the movie was released. The new figure offers a backward step on decor for Okoye on the costume and in the accessories, and while articulation looks OK there is a lot of lower leg restrictions due to the long skirt piece. Okoye suffered, as did the others in the wave, from the windowless packaging which has seen her sit at discount pricing under her RRP for some time after release. This being said, visually she is impressive and will certainly brighten up a Wakanda Forever display alongside Namor and Nakia in particular.
