The next part of the Transformers Studio Series Devastator from Transformers: The Movie have been revealed in full at Megacon 2025 and immediately after opened for pre-order. Constructicons Long Haul and Hook will be a Studio Series 2-Pack with Long Haul transforming from Dump Truck to Robot and Hook from Crane to Robot. They will also combined to the other Constructicons being released in 2025 to create the Devastator. We can expect Long Haul and Hook in August 2025. “It's talking, Merry. The tree is talking” Merry and Pippin make up Diamond Select’s Series 7 Lord of the Rings figures, a line that has been running since 2021. Both of our Series 7 Hobbits use the standard packaging first established in 2021 for general releases. The window box uses a bblue-huedcolour scheme inlaid with the map of Middle Earth and with the stark contrasting gold Lord of the Rings logo to the front left. The artwork on the other side has also remained the same throughout all 7 waves - showing an image of Sauron, Gandalf and Frodo rather than an actual image of the character included. The only reference to the content sits underneath this with the character name in gold text. The rear of the box features a large central image of both Series 7 figures as well as some smaller ‘also available’ images featuring Series 5’s Boromir & Lurtz, and Series 6’s Saruman and Sam. There is a small font paragraph of text between these two sets of images that provides a generic overview of The Lord of the Rings itself and under this a confirmation that Pippin is based specifically on his appearance in The Fellowship of the Ring. The Diamond Boxes continue to use a top hanging tab which is prone to damage in shipping. And they are also still using both an internal window and a two sided inner tray which does somewhat restrict how well the figure itself is displayed through the dual plastic surfaces which create a number of reflections and distortions.  Pippin arrives in the outfit we see him wearing as he leaves Lothlorien in The Fellowship of the Ring, complete with Elven cloak. The trousers are three-quarter length and in a dark brown colour with additional weathering. Pippin is wearing a simple cream shirt, over which is his blue jacket. He is also wearing a scarf as an individual piece. This sits round his neck as does the Elben cloak which is a cast green piece with full texture and weathering a painted gold metallic leaf of Lothlorien clasp. To remove either the scarf or the cloak you will need to remove the head from the neck pin - and I advise caution doing so with the nature of the plastic Diamond utilise on their Select figures.  Like Merry, Pippin also has some disappointing painted joints. While the arms are blue for the coat, this is painted over a flesh colouring and the rear of the joint is very unsightly. There is also a significant paint rub issue on the front of the joint which flakes immediately on first movement of the elbow joint. On the legs, there is the reverse of the issue. While you’d expect the lower legs to be cast in flesh tone, they are actually cast in dark brown and therefore the rear of the ankle joint is an even starker issue than the elbow. While paint rub here is less obvious, the front of the ankle joint will wear away over time. Pippin’s head sculpt is a strong likeness to Billy Boyd, slightly better than Merry but still with a skin tone that is slightly too tanned. Diamond continues to paint their face sculpts and this is done neatly to pick out the eyes and key features with the hair also well shaped and sculpted and then painted with no obvious paint bleeds or issues with the edges. The Hobbit feet are sculpted with a patch of fur on top which is painted initially in the flesh tone but then with brown painted on the very top edges to give the hairy feet effect. Pippin is scaled perfectly with Merry as the two are almost identical in height. Combined with the other Hobbits we can see that Sam is looking a tad tall, and Frodo a tad small. Frodo is of course also the only Hobbit not to have an elven cloak having been shortchanged on accessories in Series 2. Because our Hobbits stand at just 5.5 inches rather than the normal 7 inches and above of characters like Aragorn and Gandalf, the packaging in which they sit has an excessive amount of space, and to add perceived value for the release and to fill in this space we do get a number of accessories with Pippin. These accessories are a little better thought out than Merry, but still lack a huge amount of options for a display. While Merry had a set of cooking implements, the main element of Pippin’s accessories is the large dragon firework they steal from Gandalf at Bilbo’s party. This is a large piece, coloured in bright red and with golden trim and a thin base in wood coloured brown. Pippin can hold this, propped across both hands and in particular utilising the single alternative right hand with a more open palm. While the execution of the firework is OK, it lacks any display functionality in light of Pippin’s actions in the movie and might have best been executed as a diorama piece stuck into a stand to reflect the mud in the tent allowing it to freestand alongside your Pippin and Merry figures.  Pippin also features the exact same pipe and tankard as was included with Merry. These are scaled perfectly for the figure and while the pipe appears delicate, there is flexibility built into the plastic so it is not as easily broken as you may think. Pippin can hold the pipe between the fingers of his hands as the most secure position, while either hand can grip the brown painted handle of the silver tankard. Sadly, there is not enough elbow movement to have either the pipe or tankard raised to Pippin’s mouth, leaving the options more limited to holding the pipe in hand, although the tankard can be raised in celebration. Pippin comes with a sword and holster, like Merry as given by Aragorn on Weathertop. The sword is individual to Pippin with a wider silver blade, brown grip and silver pommel. This fits in either of Pippin’s gripping hands. The sheath is the same as included with Merry, a dark brown piece with sculpted pattern up both sides. Like almost every sheath released to date in the LOTR series by Diamond, there is no way of attaching this to the figures belt so it can be worn as intended. So you are left with having Pippin hold the sheath - or to rig up your own fixing to he belt.  Pippin features 14 points of basic but pinless articulation. There is some basic movement build in here, but not to the extent we find on other lines and that is as we have seen to the detriment of the figure in terms of posing him with some of his accessories. All of the joints feel tight and secure but are at risk of paint damage when used - mainly the elbow and ankle joints. Pippin can stand perfecty well once posed, but like Merry he lacks any of his boisterous character that see in the films with such a restricted range movement and therefore limited interaction with any of the accessories.  Pippin is very much as we’d expect now from the Diamond Lord of the Rings series, a very well executed figure in terms of costume with an acceptable if not spectacular likeness, basic articulation, and a selection of accessories that often have limited or no engagement options with the figure itself. For me Merry and Pippin might have been best served as a two pack, negating the need for much of the accessories except perhaps the pipe and tankard which are fitting for our two hobbits. Pippin, like Merry, also suffers from poor decisions around base colour and overpainting and the issue with both the elbow and ankle would have been easily avoided by using a base plastic that matched or was close to the final colouring.  There is quite a bit of shared use between Merry and Pippin, with both figures using the same entire lower half - just painted differently - and also sharing the upper arms., While none of this detracts from either figure, the cost-saving employed on the shared elements puts further focus on the accessories and overall 'value for money' of the releases which are still retailing in the UK around the £30 mark. Series 7 does finally complete the Fellowship and in an age where many action figure lines are cancelled before key characters are released we should be thankful for this. Posed all together you can also see the advancement of the line between 2021 and 2024 with Legolas and Frodo in particular looking dated against the newer figures.  I was also pleased to find that Merry and Pippin were both relatively well scaled against the older large Toybz Treebeard figure and have sufficient articulation to be posed sitting on his shoulders as seen during the events of The Two Towers. The new Marvel Legends carded 'comic book' wave has opened for pre-order at Marvel Legends stockists. The six-figure wave features Banshee, Daken (Wolverine), Ultimate Iron Man, Adam Warlock, Miles Morales Spider-Man, and ROM Spaceknight. Each figure will come with a miniature comic book based on the issue on which the figure is drawn. They are also still using both an internal window and a two sided inner tray which does somewhat restrict how well the figure itself is displayed through the dual plastic surfaces which create a number of reflections and distortions.  Merry, from The Fellowship of the Ring, is depicted in his yellow shirt with a white collar and brown three-quarter trousers. Over the shirt is a green textured jacket, while the trousers are sculpted with a black painted belt and silver buckle. Weathering is added to the trousers to give a worn look, while the shirt and coat are left relatively clean. Merry features some frustrating decisions on colourtion of plastic with the arms obviously cast in a flesh colour and then painted - which means the rear pin of the elbow joint is exposed in the flesh colour when the arm is bent, and while the front half of this joint is painted, it starts to rub with the first elbow movement straight out of the box. As a direct contradiction to this, the bottom half of the legs and feet are cast in a dark brown and then painted in flesh, resulting in exposed brown plastic on the rear of the ankle joints and further worn paint to the front if the ankle joints are used. Merry is also wearing his elven cloak as gifted to him in Lothlorien. This is cast green plastic with a metallic green painted elven leaf-shaped clasp. The cloak is textured and weathered to an impressive extent. It is removable, but you will need to pop off Merry’s head first - which needs to be done carefully considering the type of plastic employed by Diamond for their figures.  The head sculpt for Merry is a good likeness to actor Dominic Monaghan as Pippin from the 2001 movie. The skin tone is perhaps slightly too tanned, but there is sufficient detailing in the eyes, facial features, and the mop of brown hair - although as yet still no facial printing tech in use from Diamond. The other key hobbit feature, the hairy feat, is achieved with a sculpted wad of ‘fur’ on the top of the feet which is partly painted on the top facing in brown. Merry is Hobbit-scaled and stands just 14cm (5.5 inches) tall, which is accurate alongside human-sized characters like Boromir and Gandalf. He also lines up relatively well against the other hobbits from the line, although Frodo looks a touch small and Sam a touch tall. The size of the Hobbit characters does present Diamond with a challenge on filling out the packaging with a good amount of accessories to provide perceived value. While Frodo had a build-a-figure part, and Sam had a whole raft of travelling gear, Merry still feels very light on accessories and what we get is limited in terms of their display value.  The focus on Merry’s accessories is very much around cooking and ‘second breakfast’ and he features two pans - one larger than the other - with a dull silver base and brown painted handle. With these also comes a brown knife and spoon, both slightly oversized for the scale of Merry. He can hold these in either hand, but the grip is not secure.  The two accessories I really like in terms of fitting in with the character and his scenes in the Trilogy are the pipe and mug. The pipe is delicate and scaled well for the figure and to hold it you need to slip it between the spaced fingers rather than in the hand grip itself. The tankard, in a silver finish with a brown handle, is also scaled nicely to Merry and can be held securely in either hand. Unfortunately, the elbow articulation isn’t wide-ranging enough to have Merry raise the pipe, or the tankard, to his mouth.  The accessory set is finished off with a sword and scabbard -  the one presented to Merry by Aragorn at Weathertop. Like so many of the LOTR figures from Diamond, the scabbard has now functionality to connect to the figure and be worn on the belt. It is cast in brown with an intricately carved design down both sides of its length. The Numernorean blade is a hard, brittle plastic painted silver on the blade with a hold trim toward the grip, and the grip itself in brown. An alternative right hand is included and seems to be specific to cradling the blade or the scabbard for poses with the weapon. Merry has just 14 points of articulation, all now pinless but with a relatively limited range of motion as mentioned earlier with the elbows in particular. The joints are all tight, but with that comes a significant risk of paint rub particularly prevalent at the ankles and elbows. Merry stands perfectly well on his own but lacks some degree of character with the accessories in particular.  Like much of the Diamond Lord of the Rings line, the focus has been on a very accurate costume for the figure with a relatively strong likeness and a paint job that brings out the best of both. Articulation is obviously secondary, and not the line's strong point. The decision to cast parts in the wrong colours and then paint is odd and most likely driven by the factory output and this causes unsightly issues at the elbows and ankles which most other lines avoid by colour-coordinating parts and joints. Merry’s accessories are a mix of those that we’d expect for the character like his pipe and tankard, to an odd cooking set that lacks any aesthetic benefit and a sword and sheath that can’t be worn. In terms of filling out the packaging then Diamond might have followed suit with the older Toybiz line and created diorama parts such as a campfire with all the cooking accessories.  There is quite a bit of shared use between Merry and Pippin, with both figures using the same entire lower half - just painted differently - and also sharing the upper arms, While none of this detracts from either figure,e the cost-saving employed on the shared elements puts further focus on the accessories and overall 'value for money' of the releases which are still retailing in the UK around the £30 mark. McFarlane has revealed a new DC Direct Gold Label exclusive Clayface figure from Batman: The Animated Series. The figure stands 7 inches tall and scales with the rest of the 6-inch TAS figures. It will come with two heads and 3 swappable arms. The release is a Bestbuy US exclusive and will be live for pre-order as of the 6th of February 2025 with a shipping date in late March 2025. Images have now been circulated on social media for the NECA Matt Hooper figure from Jaws as listed on the Bestbuy website earlier this week . The pictures visually confirm that Hooper will come with four different heads, a selection of gloved and ungloved hands, alternative arms for a jacketless look, duffel bag, scuba tank, spear, and crushed cup. The images also show an Ultimate 7-inch scale Quint on the back of the box as 'available separately' which confirms this Jaws 50th Anniversary Series will include at least two of the three key characters. A Chief Brody figure is unlikely considering the issues that caused NECA's original 8-inch retro figure to get cancelled. McFarlane is adding King Kong to their Movie Maniacs series with this new 6-inch posed figure from the 2005 King Kong movie. The set features a non-articulated King Kong figure on a display base with a scenic backdrop. The set is limited to 7,400 units and includes a certificate of authenticity. NECA has unveiled a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle release from The Last Ronin with this image of Gammy April alongside Baby Yi and Moja. The set includes additional hands for Gammy April. With a relatively limited output of Warhammer 40k Space Marines from McFarlane, there is no significant scope for squad or army building - a key part of the miniatures hobby - unless you are proficient in painting and sculpting using the base figures or the 'artists' proofs' However, two of the early Space Marine releases from the Ultramarines and Blood Angels did feature coloured heads which it seems could be swapped across the pair to create some slightly different squad members for your Space Marine team. Both heads are hollow and held on by an internal socket that clicks into a ball joint neck. Heating up the headpiece allows these to be clipped off easily and then swapped over to the corresponding figure. The red head is not a perfect colour match to the Blood Angels Hellblaster while the blue head is much closer for the Ultramarines body. By picking up both figures you will have a choice of weaponry for the figures to use. While the Plasma Cannon will fit both figures, the Ultramarines doesn't have the supporting left hand - but it works to an extent. The Blood Angel only has one gripping hand so unless you are having him as another Hellblaster, he can use the Ultramarines Bolter or Chainsword. If you choose to customise or kit-bash your figures please be careful when handling knives or sharp objects or when using hot water or when heating up the plastics.
