"For the first time in my life, I am proud to wear this suit. It means I'm an X-Man. I am the X-Man." Rather than release figures ahead of the release of Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024, Hasbro held back their releases until a couple of months after the movie had aired - at which point an Autumn standalone three figure wave, without an build-a-figure, was dropped. And the wave release was not without issues, with stocks in the UK in particular being staggered as far out as February 2025 (hence our later-than-usual review). The wave included - as expected - new figures of both Deadpool and Wolverine, with the third slot handed over to Headpool alongside a Logan ‘accessory’. The new Deadpool & Wolverine figures use the new square packaging, with black base colour and the Deadpool & Wolverine movie logo under the main window. The design also draws from some of the prior Deadpool Legends releases and includes the character name panel shown as though Tip-Ex’d on the box and handwritten over. We do get side art on the right-hand spine, and a repeat of the image on the back alongside some character-specific text that gives a brief overview of Wolverine’s role in the movie. The rear of the box also carries the ‘handwritten’ design with a checklist of all three figures in the line The figure sits in the usual plastic tray and behind this is a cardboard figure backing insert that is also Deadpool-inspired, containing hand-drawn illustrations of Deadpool, Rainbows and a Unicorn. Wolverine is a brand new figure, developed to recreate his X-Man suit as worn for much of Deadpool & Wolverine. This is cast in a textured yellow, with painted blue panels and parts as well as an individually cast yellow belt with red and black ‘X-Men’ central logo. The suit is presented clean, so as seen at the very start of the movie, and without the damage and weathering it sustains once Wolverine and Deadpool land in The Void. The figure features two head options - one masked and one unmasked. The masked head captures the lower jaw of Hugh Jackman utilizing facial printing to capture the facial hair and mouth. The mask itself is black and yellow, with the yellow featuring the same texture as the rest of the suit. The eyes are painted in white and are a touch ragged at the edges. The ‘ears’ of the mask do sit quite flat and would ideally protrude more at either side as seen with the onscreen costume. There is some flexibility in the ears, but when you do warm them up and move them outward they do naturally sit back into the flat to the head position. The masked head also is contextually not seen with the clean, full-sleeved costume with Logan saving it to the final fight scene where the suit is heavily weathered and the sleeves have been ripped off. That of course doesn’t stop you from displaying Wolverine in full suit and mask as it was intended - just not seen on screen. The unmasked head sculpt is brilliant and captures the best likeness of Hugh Jackman to date in the Marvel Legends series. The head is shared with the Logan figure, but there are subtle differences in the decor. Facial printing again enhances the sculpt and in particular does a great job blending Logan’s facial hair round into the sculpted sideburns and the classic Wolverine hairstyle.  As we would expect from any Wolverine release, the figure comes complete with both extended claw hands and a second pair with claws retracted. This second pair features one hand clenched as a fist, while the other is a gripping hand - although with nothing to grip. The preference here would be for two clenched fists, and it is intriguing what the thinking is with the gripping hand going forward as there is no obvious re-use outside of this specific Wolverine suit.  Articulation is entirely pinless and there are 21 joints in total allowing Wolverine with a full range of movement. The legs can bend and sit into fighting stances, or kneeling and preparing for battle. The arms extend fully including additional range from the butterfly shoulders - while an ab-cruch does allow Wolverine to stoop and ready himself with his claws.  Visually this Wolverine figure is impressive both in terms of the colouring of the costume and the accuracy of the unmasked head in particular. It of course also represents a big shift in the Cinematic Universe with the arrival in figure form of an X-Men character in comic-accurate costume. Looking beyond this though there are a couple of niggles, particularly the mask which proportionally isn’t quite on point and perhaps around the cleanliness of the costume considering what the character goes through in the movie. While it is fair to comment on the mask not being worn with this clean, sleeved outfit - it is fair to say that Hasbro could have simply left it out and instead gave collectors both options so we can choose to expand what we see on screen and display Wolverine in the full costume as Xavier and the X-Men had originally intended.  It is almost nailed on that we will see a further release of this Wolverine, most likely a sleeveless battle-damaged variant, but for now he and Deadpool really complement each other on display while they wait to see who or what may join them, action figure wise, in the future. The rear of the box also carries the ‘handwritten’ design with a checklist of all three figures in the line The figure sits in the usual plastic tray and behind this is a cardboard figure backing insert that is also Deadpool-inspired, containing hand-drawn illustrations of Deadpool, Rainbows and a Unicorn. With Deadpool’s costume itself being drawn up as new by the TVA tailor, the figure is a fully new sculpt and does not rely at all on the 2020 Deadpool release  from Deadpool 2, except maybe the hands. The bulk of the Deadpool body is cast in red, a brighter finish to the previous figure as it was on screen. This is lined with black around the shoulders, torso, thighs, and knees. Deadpool comes with his signature belt in brown with a Deadpool logo buckle painted in red, black, and white. The belt also uses gold clips to either side of the buckle, and this gold is repeated on Deadpool’s chest panels, on his gloves, and on the clasps for a pair of black twin holsters. Further weapon storage is presented by the shoulder strap and twin sheaths for his swords, and a black shin holster on the right leg. vs 2020 Deadpool 2 release (right) Deadpool only comes with one head - we are still awaiting a Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson head in the Marvel Legends series. The head is cast in the same red as the body with painted black eye panels and white eyes. Overall the accuracy to the movie costume is strong, although there is something a little off in the proportions with a very slimline aspect to the legs in particular.  The previous releases of the original Deadpool across the initial 2-pack , the greyed ash variant , and the most recent Legacy  release all had a raft of accessories. For the Deadpool & Wolverine release, this has been paired back so only two sets of hands are included - losing the clenched fists and leaving the two pairs of gripping hands, one for swords and one for guns. The swords are reused from the original Deadpool and are black-painted grips with silver blades. They are curved slightly as we see the Katanas on screen and this does cause them to stick a little when inserted into the holsters on Deadpools back. They sit snugly in the smaller grip hands fitted to the figure on arrival.  Deadpool also comes with ‘Baby Knife’ which has a similar design to the larger Katana's with a black grip and silver blade. This fits into the smaller sword-gripping hands and can be holstered in the shin holster on the right leg.  Deadpool’s guns come already slotted in the holsters, but these are removable and use the more accurate handgun design in black plastic as seen on the Legacy  release, and not the sci-fi guns we got with the first release. To use the guns you will need to swap to the more open ‘trigger finger’ grip hands. Being a new figure the articulation on Deadpool is entirely pinless and utilises the modern configurations. There are 22 points of articulation in total, with a standard set of leg joints and a wide-ranging grouping for the arms including well-disguised butterfly shoulders. The torso is inclusive of both a waist swivel and an ab crunch while the neck is dual-jointed, although the joint between shoulders and neck is barely mobile.  The joints all combine really well to allow Deadpool a wealth of options including the use of the swords, guns, and baby knives. While he can’t quite do the splits as seen when he dons the new outfit in TVA, there is plenty of range but also stability that keeps him secure in most positions.  The Deadpool & Wolverine release of Deadpool is a strong addition to the Marvel Legends movie line and suitably marks Deadpool’s official arrival into the MCU. The costume, as it was on screen, moves more to a comic book finish in terms of the brighter red and there are some very minor questions over the overall proportions although these are more apparent when a comparison is drawn up to the original 2020 release which was a very impressive and accurate figure.  As it was in the movie, Deadpool really comes to life posed with Wolverine in his X-Men suit a contrast of red vs yellow on your shelf as it was in the movie promotional artwork as well as on screen. We will start with Headpool who is a brand-new sculpted headpiece inclusive of skeletal facial features and a torn Deadpool mask with bulging eyes visible in the torn eye slots. Headpool is wearing a flight helmet in two-tone brown, and this is capped off with a propellor that actually articulates and rotates. Despite being a severed head, the decor and finish is comparable to that used on a full figure. Headpool isn’t designed to sit onto a standard body ball joint, and instead, the neck has a small socket that corresponds with a clear plastic stand packed in with the set. This is a circular base about an inch and a half wide, and a central piece that stands about 3 inches high. The head simply slots onto the top of the post, with no ball joint of any kind to add additional ‘articulation’ to the head - therefore leaving it in a static position with no ability to tilt in any direction.  In the movie we see Headpool hovering at the head height of the other Deadpool Corps, yet Hasbro has chosen to make the stand half of the height it should be , putting Headpool at crotch height against the other Marvel Legends figures.  Using the flight stand from Star Wars Black Series Luke Skywalker Training Remote There is no apparent reason for making the shortened choice, particularly when within Hasbro’s own Black Series line there is a stand used on the Training Remote for Luke Skywalker that was the right height, had the ability to pivot on a ball joint and that would have needed minor changes to the Headpool head to get it to fit. As it stands - and as seen in our images - you can still use this piece, although Headpool sits loosely on the top rather than fixed. The accessory of Logan is based specifically on the first meeting between Deadpool and Logan in the bar after Deadpool has scoured the Multiverse to find Wolverine. The figure re-uses parts from the 2020 Wolverine/Logan figure  in the chequered shirt - although these parts have been reworked. The shirted torso is a re-used section, although this has been recoloured to try and match the bar scene with a grey pattern shirt and a sandy-coloured vest beneath. The legs are also the same as the original, but the belt buckle has been reworked. These are tan colour, yet have a texture to them which doesn’t quite look right. Rather than fit Logan with standard feet, the figure tries to play on the X-Men costume beneath and uses the feet from the full costume Wolverine figure in the same wave - painted in blue with black soles and laces, but without the full trim we see on the suited Logan. The jacket is new with the main part a rubberised plastic sleeve over the torso with sculpted matching arms. This is light grey with painted buttons, and one of Wolverine’s gloves peeking out from a side pocket painted blue. Logan comes with a choice of two sets of hands allowing you to use either extended calw hands or clenched fists. we then have the choice of a pair of clenched fists or extended claw hands. The hands are also taken from the 2020 figure.  The Logan figure is sadly not wholly accurate to the bar scene where the jacket is much darker and more weathered in keeping with Logan’s character. The shirt too should be darker, and the vest should have a rounded high neck to hide the X-Men suit underneath. The costume inaccuracies continue with the trousers which are again darker in the bar scenes, although the bar scenes don’t quite show if the feet are indeed the X-Men suit costume as found on the figure and not a standard pair of boots. While the costume has issues, the head sculpt is glorious with an excellent likeness to Hugh Jackman enhanced with facial printing. The head is shared with the suited Wolverine , although there are paint variations between the two. In particular, the eyes are darker and more shaded, maybe a nod to Logan’s intoxicated state when we first meet him.  As an accessory himself, Logan has no other parts bar the spare hands. He does come with a full suite of 21 points of articulation, giving him plenty of posing options. The legs are pinned and those pins are quite visible due to the lighter colouring of the trousers. The arms are pinless so are either new or donated from a similarly suited body (let me know if you identify which) and feature some butterfly joints hidden under the jacket. While the onscreen version of this Logan does very little other than fall over drunk - there are plenty of more dynamic fighting stances you can put him in if you wish.  I do like the principle of this release, badging Headpool as the star of the show with a Logan accessory is very much in keeping with the Deadpool humour. The box art also retains an identity while still conforming to the usual Marvel Legends base features including the side art, background text, and checklist of other releases. Headpool as a figure does everything right, but is let down massively - well a whole 3 inches - by the choice of the stand.  Logan features a superb Hugh Jackman head sculpt - but one that came from the Wolverine figure in the wave anyway. By using the older Logan/Wolverine body the heads are also interchangeable allowing you to swap and change between figures if you wish. The figure potentially relied on early costume details or concept art, and a desire to re-use a large amount from an older logan figure. The finish on all of the items of clothing is two or three shades too light and too clean on all of the clothing. The shirt detail is also inaccurate so while the jacket pocket and shoes play on the ‘hidden’ Wolverine costume within - it's clearly not there when you look at the low-cut shirt section.  Headpool with Logan is an OK release, without being spectacular or wholly accurate which is a shame. There will be better Wolverines to come - one is in this wave - but as a Logan figure and specifically the visuals this has perhaps gone a little bit backwards (head sculpt aside) to the previous X-Men 2020 and X-Men: Origins releases. McFarlane's new DC Multiverse Batman movie releases have opened for pre-order. They include a new single release of Michael Keaton's Batman from the 1989 movie complete with alternative hands, Batarang, Grapnel Launcher, and Ninja Wheels. He also comes with a soft goods cape and two rods which can be inserted in his hands, and into folds in the cape to create the expanded cape look. Joining him is Christian Bale's Batman from Batman Begins (2005). This new Dark Knight Trilogy release features a hand with Batarangs, hand with smoke grenade, Batarang, and Grapnel Gun. Both figures also feature the usual display base and collector card. They are due to ship in March 2025. Within the wave, there is also a Platinum Red Chase figure of The Scarecrow from Batman Begins. This new version of Scarecrow comes with a suited body. The next wave of Diamond Select's Lord of the Rings series has been revealed exclusively at Collider.com The two-figure wave will feature the second release of King Aragorn, now in the armour of Gondor and complete with twin sheaths - so we assume he will include two sword accessories. Full content will be confirmed at pre-order and then nearer to release - we hope the figure might include the King of Gondor helm either as a removable part looking at the shape of the hair or as an extra head option. Aragorn is joined by Lady Galadriel. In a welcome move, and in line with the older Toybiz line, Galadriel will be the first LOTR mainline release to come with a scaled diorama part with the Mirror of Galadriel and her jug included. Aragorn and Galadriel are Series 10 of the Lord of the Rings Series, following on from the Series 9 pairing of Tauriel and Bilbo Baggins. This does mean that Gandalf the White - as previewed a couple of times at collector events - is also still not locked in for a release. Hiya Toys continues to announce Godzilla figures from the Monsterverse, the latest being the Exquisite Basic 'Heat Ray' Godzilla from Godzilla (2014). It seemed strange after such a long absence in UK supermarkets to see the new Marvel Legends Deluxe figures of Sam Wilson Captain America, and Red Hulk on the shelves in Sainsbury's. They were part of a larger promotional end featuring Lego, Playdoh and Hasbro Hero, & Roleplay items. The two figures were also under their RRP and priced at £28 each. It appears that McFarlane's Super Powers Kickstarter figures and vehicles from 2024 are getting a general release in 2025. The Bat Multi-Craft and Black Manta Sea-Saucer have both been listed for general pre-order at stockists with the items shipping in late February 2025. There has also been listings through Amazon Canada of single-carded figures of Batman, Aquaman, and Robin - although nothing for Black Manta. These have a mid-March release date. On a day out with my son this week, we found ourselves through a stroke of coincidence at the Dagfields Antique and Collector Centre near Nantwich, Cheshire. The stop-off was a filler after our morning visit had not taken anywhere near as long as we expected. Our plan was to do a bit of mooching around the stalls and to see if we could find any retro toys. What we didn't know until arrival, as that the site is home to 88mph Toys & Collectables - a specialist stand-alone store focusing on retro toys from the 70's and 80's through to some modern items. The store is something special to behold and we spent a good hour or more browsing the cabinets and shelves with me doing quite a lot of reminiscing to my son over the likes of The Real Ghostbusters, Action Force, M.A.S.K., and of course Star Wars. The quality of the Star Wars offerings was impressive, with excellent pricing to boot. Sadly, none of the offerings fitted quite into the remit for our Star Wars Vintage Rescue project - but we will certainly be back in the future as that project grows. The Antiques Centre itself is spread over a number of buildings and while there were no other stalls of a similar quality to 88mph Toys , there were a handful of stalls/dealers focusing on Toys and a few older retro items for sale. Definitely worth a trip if you are in the area. The Cafe is very nice too - and the pies from the Farm Shop (Cheshire Pies) are amazing! I recommend the Steak and Stilton. The family and I headed to watch the new Marvel Cinematic addition, Captain America; Brave New World. on its 2nd day of release. This is certainly not a film review as we are in the business of talking toys - but I can say that we all enjoyed it. Having watched the film in full it is fair to say that Hasbro has done pretty well in getting us the new Sam Wilson Captain America and Joaquín Torres as Falcon into the Marvel Legends series ahead of the movie release with little discrepancies to the two suits we see on screen. Unfortunately, their Red Hulk falls short of what we do finally see on the screen when President Ross finally succumbs to the anger within. The Hasbro Red Hulk is more of a generic release that could fit with the movie as much as it could with the comic books. The head sculpts are the main issue lacking any likeness to Harrison Ford - while the trousers are presented as the 'stretchy' pants worn by Hulk - and not the ripped and shredded trousers that Ross is wearing during his Red Hulk scenes. There is precedent for revisiting characters from the MCU to bring us more accurate versions, Hasbro has certainly done this with Cull Obsidian as well as tweaking the original Infinity War 'Nomad' Captain America. Whether Red Hulk will see the same treatment is yet to be seen? I always watch new movie offerings from Marvel to see if there are other characters and figures who we might want to see in the Marvel Legends series. While the recent offering of Deadpool & Wolverine had a very large roster that could make it to 6-inch format - Brave New World is more compact in terms of key characters. For me it would be a shame if Samuel Sterns (The Leader, albeit not named that way) doesn't get a release. As the main villain of the piece, he should be a safe bet for any future Brave New World figures - although we did think the same of The High Evolutionary from GOTG3. Sidewinder, as played by Giancarlo Esposito, would be a very toyetic release considering his military garb, extensive armory, and sunglasses. Less so would be the latest addition to the Black Widow program within the MCU and Ruth Bat-Seraph - most likely in her mission gear we see late on in the piece once she teams up with Cap and Falcon. And that then leaves President Thadeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross as a standard release in his Presidential garb - either in the suit from the White House scenes, or his Presidential Jacket while he was commanding the Navy operation at Celestial Island. A single release of Ross also provides an opportunity for Hasbro to throw in a Red Hulk head as an accessory - presenting a part fix to the Deluxe Red Hulk if we are not to get a retooled figure.
