In May 2018 Hasbro announced it had secured a deal to purchase the Saban Power Rangers brand from Haim Saban, ending a 25 year relationship between Saban and Bandai. The Hasbro team announced that it would continue the basic Power Rangers lines and would also launch a collector friendly 6 in ch scale line called the Lightning Collection. This collection would follow a similar format to the existing Hasbro collector lines such as Marvel Legends and Star Wars Black Series. The first wave was confirmed at New York Toy Fair 2019 along with a reveal of the packaging.
