Hasbro has confirmed the contents for its Star Wars Black Series Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary line.
Like the 40th Anniversary line for A New Hope, the Empire collection will feature 6 inch Black Series figures on vintage inspired blister cards. The assortment of figures includes direct repacks, some updates via the face print technology and a handful of new figures.
Wave 1 will land in Spring and is a 5 figure wave. This wave includes repacks of Leia Hoth, Han Solo (Bespin) and the AT-AT Driver. Yoda is essentially a repack of the Archive line with that version having had a face print upgrade over the original. Luke in Bespin fatigues will also include a head sculpt upgrade using the face print technology.
The second wave brings us another direct repack with the Tie Fighter Pilot. Lando (Bespin) and R2-D2 are repacked with paint updates - Lando getting face print while R2 is redecorated to his muddy Dagobah look.
The two new figures are from Hoth, with a new Luke Skywalker in his Snowspeeder flight suit - a perfect fit to the Snowspeeder also announced.
The final figure is the Hoth Rebel Trooper. This figure brings a new feature to the Black Series with a second face plate to give the figure two distinct looks. Coupled with the goggles and scarf accessories Hasbro have confirmed the Hoth Rebel Trooper can achieve 6 different looks. The new face plate is hidden away in the Troopers backpack.
I hope that the case assortments are sufficient to take into account the army building nature of the Rebel Trooper. It is unclear if the new figures will get a boxed release in the future?
