On the Pegs : Smyths Toys, Star Wars, Fortnite and Aliens

Toy Store visits are quite a rare occurrence at the moment with everything going on, but having found myself at a Smyths this week it was worth checking out what was new on the shelves.

Smyths are expanding their Star Wars line now after a long wilderness period. I was surprised to see the latest wave, the new Galaxy Collection, on sale - although the Smyths I was in just had two pegs full of Snowspeeder Luke left (£19.99 each). They also had the 3rd Wave of Vintage Carded Black Series 40th Anniversary figures. There was a good selection of these, and there are also some peg warmers knocking around from Wave 2 - Tie Pilot and Lando.

Finally I found a tray of 6 inch scale The Child figures. These look to be the 2nd run with the lighter collar. They were not priced, but the website indicates these are a tenner.

Over in Fortnite I found a nice new 4-pack of 6 inch scale Jazwares figures. The figures had all been out before - Beef Boss, Peely, Tomato Head and Jonesy (Recruit). They each come with the accessories, alternative heads/faces and harvesting tools. Considering single figures are £19.99 the price tag of £59.99 is a pretty good deal.

Finally, I do like to checkout the Lanyard section and in particular their new Alien line of 3.75 inch figures. There was loads to choose from, with reductions on the basic (Swarm) sets to £7.99 including a newer one with the auto-cannons from Aliens.

The Power Loader Set was in stock at £12.99 and we also had a new Ultra Set with a Red Alien Queen, two Xenomorph, a Marine and an Alien Egg and Facehugger. This is a Smyths Exclusive and is priced at a reasonable £29.99. The older Purple Queen was reduced too at £16.99

I hope these reductions are not an indication this line is struggling in the UK as I really like it and it reminds me so much of the 1990's Kenner line - my son too is a fan and is lining up a lot of these for his Christmas list...

About Me : As a child of the 70's and 80's I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force) and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licences - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
