McFarlane announces NBC Universal licensing deal

McFarlane Toys has announced a new licensing arrangement with NBC Universal to bring characters from the Universal properties to the Movie Maniacs line and McFarlane digital collectibles offering.

This potentially now opens up Movie Maniacs to iconic movies such as King Kong, Universal Monsters, Back to the Future, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Child's Play, and E.T. A lot of these stray into properties already being released by NECA, which is why this has probably been specifically limited to the McFarlane 6-inch Movie Manics posed figure line. We should see the first products this Spring.

Los Angeles, Calif. February 15, 2024 - McFarlane Toys has announced their collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences to expand their Movie Maniacs brand with a range of posed figures and corresponding digital collectibles based on some of NBCUniversal’s most iconic characters. Coming to retail this spring, in a nod to fan favorite comedies of the 1980s and 1990s, the first wave of figures includes Jake Blues from The Blues Brothers, Andy Stitzer from the 40-Year-Old Virgin and The Dude from The Big Lebowski. Fans can be on the lookout for many more exciting and nostalgic characters to come in future waves. Each incredibly detailed, 6” figure includes a numbered art card, scenic backdrop, and is posed on an environmental base. A digital collectible will also be released of each figure.

“It’s pretty cool to bring fans even more of their favorite characters – now from the rich library of NBCUniversal. With the recent launch of McFarlane Toys Digital, we have the unique ability to expand our Movie Maniacs brand, which began back in 1997, beyond our expertly detailed figures and into the digital world by offering our fans a new way to showcase their collections. NBCUniversal’s collection of iconic characters and stories make them an ideal partner for this exciting new venture” said Todd McFarlane, founder, and CEO of McFarlane Toys.

Product is launching this spring and will be available online and at retail worldwide. All digital products will be sold in conjunction with their physical collectibles and will be redeemable at mcfarlanetoys.digital.

About Me : As a child of the '70s and '80s I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force), and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licenses - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who, and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK-focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
