"I know you will find this difficult to believe, but this time I mean you no harm."
As soon as I received the Character Toys Doctor Who Vortex Edition release of Anthony Ainley's Master, I knew I wanted to explore how to display The Master as we saw him in the Death Zone during the events of The Five Doctors.
Apart from Omega, the Character line has not used soft goods in their releases, but a fabric cape seemed to be the most obvious solution for a Five Doctor's Master. After searching the usual suspects, I found this 'Vampire Cape' on Etsy by seller TheDollhouseTailor. The cape is 1/12 scale and features a large raised collar. While shown here with a red lining, there is a full black option by selecting black for both collar and lining size when ordering. It is also very competitively priced at £7.80 delivered in the UK.
The cape came really quickly and once in hand, you can set about dressing The Master. The cape features two slim ties around the colla,r and I found the best way to get the fit was to lay the Master on the cape and to tie the cape around the neck. You can then pull these back over the shoulders and tie a final knot around the back. The larger collar then folds down, covering the ties and also leaving a very small collar in place, almost replicating the Five Doctor cape exactly. Being soft goods, the figure is not damaged or changed in any way.
For me, I am really happy with the look, and he looks great alongside my Five Doctors figures and the Cybermen from the Death Zone.

About Me : As a child of the '70s and '80s I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force), and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licenses - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who, and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK-focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
