SatTOYday Special : "Best of the Rest" 2019

The Mephitsu Archives has been running now for nearly 6 years, and at the end of each year I do like to look back and pick some of my favourite figures from the year just passed. These lists are from the figures I've reviewed that year and from the lines I collect and review - predominantly Star Wars Black Series, Marvel Legends MCU and select NECA, Diamond and McFarlane lines.

This year I have split out the list into a selection of Top 10's, each focusing on a different group of figures. Let me know what you think of my choices....

Outside of Hasbro product, there hasn't been a huge amount of other figures that I have reviewed across 2019. There has been limited releases for the NECA Aliens line and Diamond & McFarlane have also been single figure pick ups rather than full lines. To that end a Top 10 was a tough ask, so in this Special I have picked out a handful of my favourite "other" releases of 2019.

Each figure included has a link via the image to the full review if you want to see more...

Doctor Who 7th Doctor & STRIKE Dalek

Character Options (B&M Exclusive)

B&M gave us a number of new Doctor Who 5-inch figures in 2019, with the exciting packs being those based on Big Finish Audio plays. These new Doctor & Dalek sets may have been repaints of existing figures, but they delivered some stunning new Daleks - including the STRIKE Dalek, who arrived with a 7th Doctor in an outfit that was pretty close to the one he wore in the TV Movie.

The Night King, Game of Thrones

McFarlane

In 2019, McFarlane took up the Game of Thrones licence . The last 6-inch figures we had got were from Funko, and the McFarlane line was clever enough to stick to this scale. We got four figures in the launch wave - and it was The Night King that stole the show with a phenomenal sculpt and paint job.

Newborn Alien, Alien Resurrection

NECA

While NECA may have slowed on the Alien line, 2019 did see them reach Alien Resurrection and bring us three great new figures from the 4th movie in the franchise. Whatever you think of the Newborn on screen, you can't argue against the job NECA have done of recreating it in a 7-inch action figure scale. As well as being gruesome and horrifying, it stands a good 11-inches tall and dominates a display.

Jareth The Goblin King, Labyrinth

McFarlane

McFarlane may not go deep into a franchise, but they do produce fantastic looking figures of key characters. This is the 2nd Jareth figure we've had from Labyrinth - and it looks spectacular with a fantastic likeness to David Bowie and a spot on recreation of that hairpiece. It even comes with a Goblin!

Ripley-8, Alien Resurrection

NECA

We're back to NECA and Alien Resurrection with this final choice. It's my favourite of 2019, and you can see why when you start to pose the NECA Ripley-8 figure from Resurrection. While it may come with two big guns, it is that basketball poses that make it for me. Gotta love a Ripley figure in any shape and after a few "tweaked" Sigourney Weaver figures, it was great to get this brand new one.
