SatTOYday Roundup : Issue 166

Happy #SatTOYday everyone!

After weeks of waiting, the McFarlane Justice League figures from the Zack Snyder cut of the movie have finally been revealed. McFarlane were also busy with the pre-order details and galleries for the Darkfather Batman wave as well as new Gold Label figures.

'Marvel Must Haves' Monday was focusing on the finale of WandaVision from last week and had new Wanda product from both Hasbro and Diamond. The other main Hasbro news of the week was the launch of Hasbro Pulse UK. NECA news this week ranged from packaging reveals for the new Turtles boxset, to a reveal of a new Shout Factory exclusive.

Just one review this week as I unpack the new NECA Alien 40th Anniversary Ash figure.

Spoiler Warning

The final article of this week's newsletter includes a spoiler for Godzilla vs Kong. There are also images in this weeks issue of character designs from the WandaVision finale and the Zack Snyder Justice League

McFarlane Justice League

This week saw the long awaited reveal for the McFarlane DC Multiverse 7 inch figures from the Zack Synder cut of the Justice League. The first wave will include figures of Batman, Superman, The Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman. It seems Wonder Woman has been left out having only had a figure released last year.

There are also new Mega Figures which will be larger scale deluxe releases around 9.5 inches tall. These will be Steppenwolf and Darkseid.

There was also a better look this week at the next DC Multiverse wave from Batman Death Metal. The four figure BAF wave includes Superman, Batman, Robin King and Wonder Woman with each figure also coming with a part to build the Darkfather BAF figure. The wave will be a July 2021 release.

There were also new images this week for figures in the Gold Label exclusive line. The Curse of Apocalypse Spawn is packed within the Mortal Kombat line and features Spawn with his club and a display stand. He will be a May/June 2021 release.

Also arriving in May/June 2021 is the Blood Angel Primaris Lieutenant in the Warhammer 40k line. The Lieutenant will come with both a bolter and sword, along with the display stand.

Marvel Select Scarlet Witch from Diamond

After the WandaVision finale, the 'Marvel Must Haves' Monday reveals were certainly themed around Wanda - the Scarlet Witch - with Diamond Select being one of the companies that will be bringing Wanda into figure form later in 2021.

Marvel Legends Scarlet Witch

Of course, not to be outdone, the 'Marvel Must Haves' reveals also included the Hasbro Marvel Legends Scarlet Witch in the 6 inch scale. There were limited details provided, but we are assuming that the figure is part of a wider Disney+ wave that will also include the Vision figure revealed last week.

Hasbro Pulse UK

The other big Hasbro news of the week was not a figure release, but the launch of the Hasbro Pulse platform for UK collectors. The site is live now with a good offering of figures across the Hasbro licences of Star Wars, Marvel, GI Joe, Power Rangers and Transformers. There is also an exclusive section where retailer exclusives from the US are now sold - it is unclear if this will impact our UK independent stores who have had access to these before now via the Fan Channel.

You can also subscribe to be a Premium Member of Hasbro Pulse. This gives you free shipping on all orders and early access to certain exclusives and product releases. This normally costs £40 for a year, but if you sign up before the 31st of March 2021 you will get the subscription for £20, a 50% saving.

There is some disappointment from Northern Ireland collectors as the Hasbro Pulse UK doesn't actually ship to the whole of the UK, with Northern Ireland currently excluded.

Hasbro Ghostbusters

Just as the week drew to a close, Hasbro announced some new releases in their Ghostbusters line. The new Kenner Retro releases will feature an ECTO-1 as well as ghosts Bug Eye and Fearsome Flush. The releases will be Walmart Exclusives in the US and pre-orders open Monday 15th March for an April 2021 release.

Mattel Jurassic World

Mattel are bringing us another super-sized 3.75 inch scaled Jurassic World dinosaur in the shape of the Apatosaurus. This new dino comes in at 112cm long, 6cm longer than the Brachiosaurus. It has shown up on the Smyths Toys UK website for a late March release at the UK price of £49.99

NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

NECA have released the packaging images for their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4-pack, the Turtles in Disguise, which features all four Turtles complete with soft goods coat and trousers, human mask and hat.

NECA Gremlins

NECA have a new accessory set planned this year, this time for the Gremlins line. We do not know how big or extensive the set will be - but we do know, courtesy of the reveal from TJ Gremlins Guys, that Gizmo's Pink Sports Car will be included

NECA Toony Terrors

The full details have been released by NECA for their Toony Terrors Jaws Deluxe Set of Quint and the Shark. This July 2021 release will feature 6 inch scale Quint with machete and spear gun, and a Bruce the Shark.

Shout Factory & NECA : Battle Beyond the Stars

In another team up, Shout Factory will be releasing a Blu Ray Steelbook from the 1980's movie Battle Beyond the Stars. Ordering the Deluxe pack from Shout Factory will also bag you an 8 inch NECA exclusive figure of Saint-Exmin from the movie, as played by Sybil Danning.

The set/figure is limited to 2000 units and can only be ordered in the US and Canada.

NECA Back to the Future

NECA's next Back to the Future figure has been teased and it looks to be Griff Tannen from Back to the Future Part II. The figure is not fully revealed, but we can see Griff's hand as well as his telescoping baseball bat.

Bandai Robot Spirits Pacific Rim : The Black

The new animated Pacific Rim : The Black series has hit Netflix and the first figure from this new addition to the Pacific Rim franchise has been revealed by Bandai. The Robot Spirits release of Atlas Destroyer will stand 17cm tall and comes fully articulated and armed with saber chain weaponry. He will be a September 2021 release.

Iron Studios Superman

Iron Studios will be bringing a new 1/10 Art Scale statue of Clark Kent to market in the 4th Quarter of 2021. The statue features Clark atop a rooftop piece as he begins his transformation into Superman.

Warning : The final article of this week's newsletter includes a spoiler for Godzilla vs Kong

Playmates Godzilla vs Kong

Smyths Toys in the UK, and Walmart in the US, have listed new Godzilla vs Kong Monsterverse figures which includes a massive spoiler for the movie in the shape of Mechagodzilla.

Mechagodzilla will be released in both the basic 6 inch format and a larger 11 inch version and will land at some point in May 2021. It is unclear why Playmates have allowed the figure to be listed and advertised considering the spoiler it presents. We've done our best to share the news but also to keep it behind spoiler warnings for those who do not want to explore any spoiler images until they've seen the movie.

This Weeks Action Figure Reviews...

About Me : As a child of the 70's and 80's I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force) and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licences - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
