SatTOYday Roundup : Issue 163

Happy #SatTOYday everyone!

I spent much of this week looking forward to the Marvel Legends Fan Friday, with lots of rumours swirling about reveals. In the end it was a single wave reveal for the Super Villains with a couple of other future figures unveiled. The wait goes on for new MCU content. NECA spent the week running teaser images for new products including Ultimate Monsters, Back to the Future and Alien.

McFarlane were back with a couple of new products this week, a new Spawn announced via their own page... updated images via Gamestop in the US and a tease from The Toddfather for a new Violator figure.

In other news there was a Mattel Jurassic Park reveal coming in Spring 2021 and we also link up with Iron Studios for reveals in their 1/10 Art Scale movie line of statues. Reviews this week are all from the Star Wars Black Series with Moff Gideon, Dark Side Vision Rey and Jar Jar Binks.

Marvel Legends 'Bring on the Bad Guys'

The first Marvel Legends Fan First Friday Event of 2021 took place on the 19th of February and featured our usual Marvel Legends team of Dan, Ryan and Dwight. The team initially took us through the previously announced figures of MODOK and Maestro before moving on to the main reveal for the panel.

The 'Bring on the Bad Guys' wave has been known about for some time with early production art being shown in 2021 for some of the included figures like Dormammu, Scientist Supreme and Arcade.

The full line up is now confirmed as a 7 figure line up of Dormammu, The Scientist Supreme, Arcade, Dr. Doom, Lady Deathstrike, The Hood and Red Skull. The build a figure for the seven figure wave is Xemnu. It will be released this Summer.

The panel also showed off a number of other new figures. Following on from the Walgreens (US) Dark Silver Surfer is Nova and he will then be followed by Quasar later this year. There will be a new Iron-Man wave by the looks of things, with an AI Tony Stark figure and Civil Warrior revealed. The final image was a teaser of a sword - most likely Excalibur, which could indicate the arrival of a number of characters from the comics who wielded that blade.

The NECA team were in teaser mode this week with a number of new images for what will be new product later in the year.

Up first was another Universal Monsters tease, with this black and white image of a Bee crawling out of a coffin. This confirms that Dracula from the 1931 Boris Karloff movie is joining Frankenstein's Monster and The Mummy in this newest of NECA's action figure Ultimate lines.

We then got an overhead shot of a new Doc Brown figure, this time by the looks of his outfit it is the Back to the Future Part II version.

The next Alien figure has been revealed as another Kenner inspired figure in the shape of the Panther Alien. We await more details.

NECA then moved on to the Evil Dead with the next tease, a shot of a table containing a chainsaw, shotgun and other accessories - all potentially heralding the return of Ash and the Evil Dead line.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

NECA also revealed the full contents of their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Turtles in Disguise Set this week. The 4-pack will feature all four turtles, complete with soft goods trousers & trench coats as well as 'human' disguise masks and a raft of other spare parts and accessories. The set will be a Target US exclusive like all Animated Series releases. We are awaiting details of any global availability.

Todd McFarlane was also sharing teasers this week, with a look at a prototype Violator figure in the Spawn range. No more details were given at this stage, and the figure looks to be in very early development.

Spawn continues to have a life within the Mortal Kombat line for McFarlane also, with a product page going live this week on the McFarlane site for a new 12 inch Commando Spawn. The release is described as a 'static figure' so is more of a statue - but it will come with a gun and necroplasm flame. There are no release details as yet, but the boxed images indicate it is close to release.

And via a Gamestop (US) listing we got the full look at the Batman Hellbat Armour Gold Edition figure coming in April 2021. This repaint of the original Hellbat armour features a gold paint job with red emblem and folding wings.

Iron Studios

I am delighted to be expanding our coverage this month as we will now be bringing you press releases from Iron Studios in their 1/10 scale Art Scale statues line. We started this new partnership with the details of their Dark Knight statue of the Joker who will be released in the 4th Quarter of 2021.

Another Q4 release from the Batman movies was The Penguin, as seen in the 2nd of the Tim Burton movies, Batman Returns. Penguin is sculpted atop a set of steps in his sewer hideout and is being escorted by his Penguin warriors while his Rubber Duck boat sits below.

The final Iron Studios reveal of the week was from Jurassic Park, with the 'Clever Girl' statue of Muldoon and the Raptor from the iconic scene in the original Jurassic Park movie. This statue will be a quarter 3 release for 2021.

Mattel Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park fans can also look forward to a new 3.75 inch release from Mattel in April with a box set of Dennis Nedry, a Dilophosaurus and a Jurassic Park jeep - all to recreate his ill-fated attempt to escape the island.

This Weeks Action Figure Reviews...

About Me : As a child of the 70's and 80's I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force) and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licences - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
