SatTOYday Roundup : Issue 157

Happy #SatTOYday everyone!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Festive period, even if it was very different this year. I hadnt expected there to be enough news for an issue before the New Year, but the figure companies had other plans with reveals from NECA for The Boys and Turtles, a new line from Diamond Select, new figures from MAFEX, SH Figuarts and Storm Collectibles... and of course a McFarlane reveal or two.

I finished off my Action Figure Advent with some of my final reviews of 2020. I boxed off the Marvel Legends X-Men line with a look at Mystique, Wolverine, Professor X and Magneto. And in Star Wars Black Series I took a look at the brand new Speeder Bike set from The Mandalorian, the Clone Wars Mandalorian Loyalist, and from a couple of years ago the Red Squadron Astromech Set.

I have a couple of other reviews to finalise in the next few days, then with as many of the 2020 figures reviewed I will look to be picking some Top 5's for the year just gone.

NECA The Boys!

We knew that NECA were releasing figures from the hit Amazon superhero show, the Boys. On Christmas Day the NECA social feeds gave us a first look at the first figures of Homelander and Starlight. We await more details for this exciting new NECA franchise.

NECA Turtles

Each Christmas, NECA holds a 12-days of Christmas Events - providing fans with high quality downloadable checklist posters for their popular lines. The final two from NECA were from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with the last one on Xmas Eve revealing quite a lot of new figures.

We can look forward to Ace Duck and Chrome Dome in the Animated Series. There will also be a set of the Frogs - Rasputin, Genghis, Atilla and Napoleon. The poster also showed the previously teased Turtles in disguise.

The preceding poster for the other turtle lines also showed some new April O'Neil variants in the Mirage comic book line - with April shown in her yellow and green jumpsuits.

SH Figuarts Wonder Woman 1984

As the Wonder Woman sequel, WW84, finally hits cinema's Tamashii Nations have unveiled their 6 inch Wonder Woman in Golden Armour from the movie. The set will include two heads, alternative hair pieces, lasso of truth and removable wings. A flight/display stand is also included. Golden Armour Wonder Woman is a May 2021 release.

McFarlane DC Multiverse

There were a couple of Festive reveals from McFarlane in the DC Multiverse line - starting with the promotional images of their Red Variant Batman from the White Knight storyline comic book and the variant cover art featuring a red shaded Batman. The release will be a Target US exclusive and is down for a March 2021 release.

Another variant was also revealed in the shape of the existing Hellbat Armour Batman who will be re-released in 2021 in a golden armour variant. Full details, and preorders, will be available in February 2021 with a late Spring / early Summer release date expected.

Medicom MAFEX

The Medicom team revealed a pair of new MAFEX figures over Christmas - one from the Marvel Universe and a second from the DC Mulitverse.

Thor from Avengers Endgame will see Thor in his final battle armour and he will come with three heads for varying expressions. Two versions of both Mjolnir and Stormbreaker are included - one normal and one with a blue hue to recreate the lightning charge. Lightning FX pieces are also plentiful. Thor will be an October 2021 release.

Superman from The Return of Superman will bring us a MAFEX Man of Steel in the black suit. He will include two head options - one normal, one angry - and a selection of hands. There are also swap out lower legs allowing rocket boots with flight FX boost pieces to be fitted. Like Thor, Superman is an October 2021 release.

Invincible from Diamond Select Toys

Diamond Select Toys and Skybound Entertainment are partnering up in 2021 to bring us 7 inch scale action figures from the Skybound Invincible series which will be making its way to Netflix in the new year. The line launches with figures of Invincible and his father Omni-Man. Both figures feature alternative heads, hands and accessory pieces.

Storm Collectibles Injustice 2

The next DC figure from videogame Injustice 2 : Gods Among Us was revealed at Christmas by the Storm Collectible team. Ares looks fantastic in his dark armour and he will feature three head options, alternative hands and a soft goods cloak. He will be armed with both a sword and axe weaponry.

This Weeks Action Figure Reviews...

About Me : As a child of the 70's and 80's I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force) and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licences - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
