SatTOYday Roundup : Issue 156

Happy #SatTOYday everyone!

And as this is the SatTOYday before Christmas, can I wish you all a very Merry Festive Period in these strangest of times. I hope that you can make the most of time with your family and don't forget to check in virtually on those you cant see in person. For those who celebrate Christmas I hope Father Christmas brings you plenty of Action Figure goodies, and it would be great to see your Xmas presents light up our Facebook and Twitter Feeds.

With the big day so close, news has really slowed off this week. The last episode of The Mandalorian Season 2 (wow) has aired and the penultimate Mando Monday reveals brought us news of even more new Black Series figures... and we still have one more Mando Monday to come. Jakks Pacific put their next Apex Legends figures up for pre-order, with Storm doing the same for their next Golden Axe release. I also stumbled on a new line from The Noble Collection called Bendyfigs, so checkout the details of the latest kid on the action figure block.

In reviews the Action Figure Advent has been a challenge, but I am up to date and thanks to the arrival (on time and undamaged) of the Children of Thanos Marvel Legends boxset I even threw in some bonus reviews this week.

Stay tuned to my social feed and the website feed for the last few reviews this year and we will be back in the New Year with the next issue of #SatToyDay. In the interim watch out also for some end of year reflections and maybe a few favourite figure picks of 2020.

Mando Monday's

This week was the last but one Mando Monday, landing a few days ahead of the Season 2 finale with confirmation of a brand new Black Series figue of Bo-Katan Kryze as seen in Season 2. She will be part of the Asajj Ventress / Bad Batch wave with one more figure to be revealed ahead of the Spring 2021 release.

This week also saw another wave of Archive Black Series figures go up for pre-sale. Wave 4 is heavily influenced by army builders seen on The Mandalorian with repacks of the Tusken Raider, Shore Trooper, Death Trooper and Hover Tank Pilot. This 4th wave will be a Spring 2021 release and pre-orders are now being taken - which is more than can be said for Wave 3 (Hoth Han, Luke, Cody and Thrawn) which is still not officially solicited by Hasbro and by all accounts will land and be sold as an in stock item at the end of December for January 2021 delivery.

Transformers Buzzworthy Bumblebee

Images were circulated this week of a new set of figures in the Transformers Studio Series called the Buzzworthy Bumblebee collection. In the set of four deluxe releases we have repacks of Bumblebee from the 2018 movie with Charlie, Bumblebee WW2 from the Last Night and Shatter - also from Bumblebee 2018. We also have a new figure with Age Of Extinction Bumblebee with Sam Witwicky figurine. Full details of the new releases are unclear, although it is likely these are 2021 releases.

McFarlane DC Multiverse Injustice

The previously announced figures from the Injustice 2 video game, Gorilla Grodd and The Flash, went up for pre-order this week with an April 2021 release date. Flash features three different speedster FX pieces and both figures include the usual stand and art card.

Bendyfigs by the Noble Collection

I came across some interesting 7 inch Lord of the Rings figures in a B&M store this week called Bendy Figs. Knowing nothing about them I did some research and found out these are a new line from London based The Noble Collection. The Noble Collection have been doing prop replicas and statues from licenses like Lord of the Rings & Harry Potter for many years now. They are now expanding with a sub-division called Noble Toys and this new Bendy Figs line.

The figures appear to use a seamless body, rubberised plastic over an inner poseable frame. Soft goods or sculpted parts are applied and the figures packed into blister cards with a stand and any appropriate accessories. The Lord of the Rings figures that caught my eye in B&M include Frodo Baggins, Gandalf and Gollum, with a Sauron to come.

Other licenses are also included in the line with figures from Harry Potter, Star Trek, Universal Monsters and DC all being released.

Lanard Toys Predator

Lanard Toys, the company behind The Corps toy line and more recently the kid focused line of Aliens figures is moving into action figures for The Predator. The new Hunter Collection is made up of 7 inch and 12 inch figures . We have three 7 inch Predators launching the line in March 2021 - the Jungle Hunter, City Hunter and Berserker. There is then a 12 inch Predator with removable bio mask, opening jaw feature and light up shoulder cannon. As with most Lanard toys the line will be exclusive to Walmart in the US. Over here we would expect these to go into Smyths Toys as the UK exclusivity holder for Lanard products.

Golden Axe Death Adder

As teased last week, Storm Collectibles released the full details of their 10 inch Death Adder figure this week from Golden Axe. Death Adder will feature a seamless body with joints executed under the "skin" of the body with body parts cast in a flexible rubber to move with the joints. He will feature alternative hands and an axe, and is up for pre-order now with a April-June 2021 release window.

Apex Legends

The Apex Legends license from Jakks Pacific will move to a 2nd wave of figures in early 2021. The next wave was confirmed this week and put up for preorder. It consists of 6 inch scale figures Revenant, Wraith and Octane - and will arrive in the first three months of 2021.

The NECA Advent season is upon us, with downloadable checklists being shared which each feature a teaser for a new figure. So far we've seen the Twins from The Shining in their Toony Terrors Line, outline images of new Predators and confirmation of the next Back to the Future release being the Marty McFly variant in just his denim jacket with guitar. This will be called the Audition Marty McFly. We would expect the full solicitation for these to follow over Xmas or early in the New Year

NECA also still have product shipping in late December, including their Ace Ventura Pet Detective Shady Acres figure - and this week we saw the packaging reveal for Ace and Mr Wiggles.

This Weeks Action Figure Reviews...

About Me : As a child of the 70's and 80's I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force) and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licences - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
