Happy #SatTOYday everyone!
The news this week was very Hasbro heavy with reveals on Monday for Mando Monday and again on Friday in a Fan Friday Triple Play Event for Transformers, Marvel and Star Wars. The event started to line up the first of the main line 2021 products with the next full Marvel Legend line confirmed and new Black Series single releases for the first 2021 Galaxy Collection Wave.
Elsewhere this week, we had a subdued McFarlane with just some new images of the Last Knight on Earth wave come online via a number of European Retailers. Super7 and Big Bad Toy Store showed off a new Thundercats Exclusive, while NECA teamed with Shout Factory for another Exclusive Horror tie-in.
In reviews this week I continue my (slow) work through the Star Wars Galaxy Collection first releases with an indepth look at the Imperial Stormtrooper. And I have a rare NECA review as my Sarah and John Connor Terminator 2 pack finally got unpacked.
The Hasbro Fan Friday Triple Play event started with Transformers and revealed two new Studio Series releases for June 2020 in the shape of B-127 from the Bumblebee movie, Bee as seen in the Fall of Cybertron scene. We are also going back to Dark of the Moon with a Deluxe release of Dino. The Transformers/Ghostbusters mashup of Ectotron is being re-done in an Afterlife version with updated weathered paint job. He will come with small figures of Slimer and a 2nd Ghost and will be exclusive to Target in the US - with wider availability outside of the USA via the Hasbro Fan Channel.
The next stop on the Triple Play event was with Star Wars where we got a number of new Star Wars Black Series reveals from The Clone Wars in the shape of Hunter and Crosshairs from Clone Force 99 (Bad Batch) and Asajj Ventress. These three will be part of the 4th wave of the Galaxy Collection with 2 other as yet confirmed figures with the wave due in June 2021.
The Vintage Collection had just a single reveal for Zutton (Snaggletooth) who will be release on Vintage cardback in Spring 2021
The Triple Play event ended with Marvel Legends and the reveal of the full Stilt Man BAF wave with Peter B Parker and Prowler joining the Into The Spider-Verse figures of Miles and Gwen - and Frog Man filling in the final slot alongside the Hand Ninja. The full wave will be a February 2021 release and is now up for pre-order at your stockist of choice.
The Thanos shown during Hasbro Pulse Con was fully unveiled, based on the Infinity Gauntlet storyline and with a bearded alternative head from the 2016 story Thanos Wins. He will be landing in March 2021
The Marvel panel also took a look ahead to the House of X wave that was announced at Hasbro Pulse Con. We knew that the wave would include Moira MacTaggert, Professor X and Magneto - they will be joined by Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey and Omega Sentinel. The BAF is being held back for now. Another series revealed at Pulse Con was Bring on the Bad Guys and it seems joining Arcade and Dormammu is a figure of the AIM Scientist Supreme. The panel ended with a very big hint at Modok joining the Legends line in the near future.
Going back a bit now to the start of the week, and it was the 3rd of the Disney Star Wars Mando Monday events. There was one figure reveal this week via Hasbro for the Star Wars Black Series with the new Stormtrooper body being re-released with a weathered look as an Imperial Remnant Stormtrooper. The figure is a Target Exclusive in the US, but is a Fan Channel release over here in the UK with an early 2021 release date.
Hasbro also revealed a new Mandalorian Helmet in their 1:1 scale line of helmet replicas, complete with electronic sound and light up functions.
NECA news this week started with a festive reveal of the packaging for their Christmas Fiend from The Misfits.
We would then continue in the 8 inch line theme with a joint reveal with Shout Factory for another horror exclusive tie in with a Scream Factory Steelbook release. The Miner from My Bloody Valentine is a limited piece and will only be available in the US and Canada.
Mezco Friday the 13th
Mezco choose Friday the 13th to confirm a re-release of their Friday the 13th Part 3 Jason Voorhees. The 6 inch One:12 Collective figure will come with alternative head, swap out hands and a large range of weaponry to choose from. He will be a Spring/Summer 2021 release.
McFarlane DC Multiverse
McFarlane were unusually quiet this week considering the raft of news and reveals we've seen weekly since the summer. News of note this week was for their DC Multiverse Last Knight on Earth wave, which features the Bane Build-a-Figure. Several European stores shared the promotional images for the wave including Bruce Wayne, Omega, Wonder Woman and Scarecrow and confirmed it for a February/March 2021 release.
Super7 have teamed up with Big Bad Toy Store to release an exclusive glow in the dark version of Mumm-Ra from their Thundercats Ultimates line. Available this December, Mumm-Ra features two head options and two versions of his cloak - one soft goods and one plastic. He features all the same accessories as the main line release, and like the figure itself these all have a glow in the dark feature, as does the packaging.
This Weeks Action Figure Reviews...
About Me : As a child of the 70's and 80's I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force) and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licences - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
