Happy #SatTOYday everyone!
After the large volume of news and reveals from Hasbro Pulse Con, it was back to McFarlane for the bulk of this week's news as they teamed up with Walmart in the US to reveal a number of Exclusives as well as unveiling some new general release figures. These do include the new Platinum Chase Figures and the Gold Label Exclusives. After an avalanche of DC (Batman) reveals it was good to see a mix of licence reveals from McFarlane including Mortal Kombat, Spawn, Warhammer 40k and The Witcher
In other news the HasLab Razor Crest was announced about a week ago now, but is already funded and steamrolling its way through the tiers. NECA had more Triceraton reveals this week from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and a packaging reveal for Back to the Future.
In reviews this week we are still with Star Wars Black Series, finishing off the Rebels Wave and next week we will be starting on the first full mixed wave of the new Galaxy Collection and maybe a few exclusives too?
McFarlane, Walmart Reveals
McFarlane had a busy end to the week, working in conjunction with Walmart in the US to reveal a raft of new figures.
We start with the Gold Label Collection, exclusive boxed figures from the McFarlane licences that will be variant paint job and sculpts as well as exclusive packaging. In the US the line will be exclusive to Walmart. It is not clear if the figures will get a wider global release. The line will launch with a Todd McFarlane designed Batman figure.
The Gold Label range will also include the new Spawn figures and this will launch with a variant of Mandarin Spawn in blue and white armour
And the new Witcher licence will get the same treatment, with a variant of Geralt of Rivia incoming in 2021 alongside the other figures
Another exclusive line for McFarlane is the Platinum Collection. This is more of a Chase set of figures where a normal figure in a case will be swapped out for an exclusive Platinum Chase version. These are the standard sculpt, but with a bronzed metallic paint job.
Walmart will be getting an exclusive Chase Arkham Batman who we assume will be included as a chase figure in selected cases of the upcoming Autumn release of Arkham Batman and Deathstroke.
There will also be a DOOM variant, with the new Doom Marauder also getting the Platinum treatment and included as a chase.
Other Walmart Exclusives include a repaint of the Mortal Kombat Kitana figure who is now presented in her red Battle Kahnun skin.
And the Warhammer 40k Necrons will be de-painted and like the Space Marine released as an unpainted Artist Proof that you can then take home and paint yourself - just like the 25mm miniatures.
The final Walmart Exclusive reveal was a 2-pack of an Arkham Asylum Batman vs The Joker. The set will be a November 2020 release, and features the same sculpt as the general releases but with an updated decor that features mud splashes and toxic green slime.
That was not all for McFarlane with three other new figures revealed as general releases - although Walmart were given the reveal and the first pre-orders.
From the Warhammer 40k line is the Adepta Sororitas Battle Sister. She will be the third figure in the W40k line after the Necron and Space Marine. She will include bolter and chainsword accessories and is a 2021 release. We'd expect an unpainted Artist Proof of the figure to follow.
From Mortal Kombat, and as already revealed a few weeks back, is Sub Zero in his Winter Purple Skin - complete with translucent purple axes and skull with spine accessory.
Finally, the My Hero Academia line will welcome Shota Aizawa in 2021. Shota will come with two head options as well as two versions of his scarf.
NECA Back to the Future
NECA have revealed the packaging design for their next Back to the Future release, the Ultimate Marty McFly from Back to the Future 2. He is due to start landing in the next month or so.
NECA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
There were more Triceraton reveals this week in NECA's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cartoon line. The two pack of Zarax and Zork will be sold via Target in the US in line with the other Cartoon 2-packs. The figures have a November release date on the cards.
Black Series Galaxy Collection
While it was no secret as to the line up, the full listing for Wave 2 (Wave 27) of the Star Wars Galaxy Collection was put up for pre-order this week with a late October / November 2020 release date. The wave is now locked in as an 8 figure wave to include the repacked exclusives of Endor Han, Endor Luke, Endor Leia, Cad Bane and the Armorer. The other figures, as already confirmed, are The Incinerator Trooper, Hoth Rebel Trooper and the Phase 1 Clone Trooper
Hasbro HasLab Razor Crest
The HasLab Razor Crest from The Mandalorian was revealed a week ago and went on to be funded in just over 24hrs with 6000 backers on board. That unlocked the reveal of the first tier for 8000 backers where an escape pod accessory would be included. This tier was reached mid-week and the 2nd tier for 10000 backers was then unveiled as a Vintage carded figure of The Child.
The HasLab project runs to the 9th of November and UK and European collectors can order their Razor Crest for £349.99 via the Hasbro European Partners, Zavvi.
SH Figuarts, The Mandalorian
There was more Mandalorian news this week from Tamashii Nations who announced their version of The Armorer from Season 1. The Armorer will include some specific accessories including the Camtona and stacks of Beskar. She also has her tongs and hammer and a Pauldron that she is working on. She has a March 2021 release date
Storm will be in attendance at Wonder Festival 2020 this weekend in Shanghai, and have a new exclusive on sale in the shape of Haohmaru from Samurai Shodown
On The Pegs
We do have a rare On the Pegs report this week from Smyths, with new finds including the latest Star Wars Black Series line, a Fortnite Jazwares 4-pack and more Lanard Alien packs.
This Weeks Action Figure Reviews...
About Me : As a child of the 70's and 80's I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force) and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licences - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
