Happy #SatTOYday everyone!
Short and sweet this week with not a huge amount of news incoming. While Hasbro did announce a new Star Wars Black Series Exclusive, most news will be being held back for Hasbro Pulse Con in a couple of weeks. NECA too have been quiet, announcing one new figure and a cancellation sadly. McFarlane's Mortal Kombat line looks to be going from strength to strength with two new figures confirmed for January 2021.
In reviews I check out the new Galaxy's Edge Black Series figures of Hondo Ohnaka and the Mountain Trooper. I also get my hands on the new Doctor Who Jungles of Mechanus Dalek Set from Character and give this the review treatment.
Star Wars Black Series Darth Nihilus
In a mid-week reveal, a Darth Nihilus from Knights of the Old Republic was unveiled by Hasbro as part of their 6 inch Black Series. The figure is part of the Gaming Greats subline which is a Gamestop Exclusive line in the US and sold via the Fan Channel elsewhere to Specialist Stores.
Darth Nihilus does look to use some parts from the existing Darth Maul figure but also includes lots of new parts and of course a new head sculpt. You can pre-order Darth Nihilus now for an Autumn release.
While Wave 6 of the Hasbro Power Rangers Lightning Collection had been revealed and up for pre order for some time, we did get some new images this week - including shots of the figures in their box - ahead of their release.
McFarlane Mortal Kombat
McFarlane had two new figures on show this week for their 7 inch scale Mortal Kombat line. Up first was a shot of Liu Kang who will join the McFarlane Mortal Kombat roster in January 2021.
This was followed up by a full promo image of Shao Kahn. Shao Kahn had been teased in the background of a recent Todd McFarlane online video, and is also arriving in January 2021. McFarlane have not given detail as yet of when pre-orders will open - but October 2020 is a good bet based on the usual process.
McFarlane DC Multiverse
The final reveal for the week from McFarlane was in their DC Multiverse line, and it was this awesome looking Batcycle from Dark Nights : Death Metal. There are no other details apart from the release estimate which is January 2021.
Rather than announcing new product this week, NECA had to confirm a cancellation. The 8 inch Chief Brody figure from Jaws that was announced in February and was due for a December 2020 release has been pulled from the release schedule due to licencing issues. The accompanying Quint figure will still be released and NECA have more Jaws product planned, but how successful this will be without Chief Brody as part of the collection is unclear.
NECA They Live!
There was a new figure reveal from NECA in the week, with another partnership with Scream Factory. The Frank figure from classic movie They Live will be a December 2020 release and can be ordered on its own, or as part of a bundle with the They Live Bluray from Scream Factory. Sadly, the figure will only be sold to US collectors as Scream Factory do not deliver outside of the US.
This Weeks Action Figure Reviews...
About Me : As a child of the 70's and 80's I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force) and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licences - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
