Happy #SatTOYday everyone!
This week started brilliantly for a Whovian like me with the announcement of a number of new Doctor Who sets coming to B&M in June. McFarlane have also been quite busy this week with details of three new DC Multiverse figures and a variant for their Mortal Kombat Spawn.
The week ended with a bunch of new Marvel Legends reveals, with new figures of Moon Knight, Apocalypse and new wave of Spider-Man Retro carded figures unveiled amongst others.
In reviews I celebrated the new Dr Who news with a look at the current B&M offering of the 3rd Doctor and TARDIS. And for the 40th anniversary of the UK release of The Empire Strikes Back, I took a look at the new 40th Anniversary Carded Lando Calrissian from The Black Series.
Who's Back at B&M Stores
Character Toys announced a new raft of Doctor Who figure sets heading to B&M Stores in June 2020. The new sets include a new 2nd Doctor and TARDIS from The War Games. There is also two new Dalek Packs called "The History of the Daleks". Each set has two Daleks - with the first pack containing the 1963 Daleks from their debut storey, while pack 2 has a drone and Supreme Dalek from The Dalek Invasion of Earth (1964).
There are then three of the more traditional B&M three figure sets, introducing a number of new characters. The Friends & Foe of the 13th Doctor set includes the previously announced Yaz and Ryan figures alongside a Judoon Trooper. The Companions of the 4th Doctor finally gives us a 4th Doctor Sarah Jane Smith along with figures of Romana I and Romana II. The UNIT Claws of Axos re releases the Brigadier with new figures of Sergeant Benton and Captain Yates.
As per previous releases, these are all clever re-paints or kitbashes of older figures with new sculpted head. The Affable Design Company went on to share behind the scenes digital sculpts for some of these later in the week.
Fan Friday Hasbro Pulse Marvel Legends
This week's Hasbro Fan Friday was dedicated to Marvel Legends, with a live stream held with the Hasbro Legends team.
They took us through some of the reveals from Toy Fair with details discussed for Old Man Hawkeye, Rogue and Nimrod. They also showed off a new Army Build AIM soldier with promises of another Army Builder later this year that was a brand new sculpt. They even confirmed, in answering a fans question, that figures are incoming from the Spider-Man Into the Spider Verse movie.
And the full line up was revealed for the Spider-Man Retro Wave. All the new reveals can now be pre-ordered with Autumn 2020 as an approximate release date.
McFarlane DC Multiverse, White Knight Figures
McFarlane released the images and details this week for their next three DC Multiverse figures. These are all based on the White Knight comic series and had been unveiled at New York Toy Fair in February 2020. They include Batman and Joker from the first White Knight Series and Azrael from the Curse of the White Knight follow up.
McFarlane Mortal Kombat Spawn Variant
McFarlane's new Spawn figure from Mortal Kombat is getting a variant release later in 2020 with the weapon accessory updated from his sword to a mace.
The Fiend by NECA
NECA revealed the boxed packaging for the re-release of their Fiend 8 inch action figures, based on the artwork of punk band The Misfits. The two versions are due for a June 2020 release.
Streets of Rage 4 Axel Stone
Storm Collectibles have released the full details for their first Streets of Rage figure, Axel Stone as seen in Streets of Rage 4. The figure features three head options, a variety of hands and a selection of game accurate weapons including broken bottles, baseball bat and knife. The figure is down for a Quarter 4 2020 release.
The "Best Of" the Nightmare Before Christmas
Diamond Select's long running series of Select figures from The Nightmare Before Christmas will see a new line of "Best Of" figures released in Autumn 2020. These new repacks will come in slimmed down window box packaging with no diorama pieces. Two waves have been announced so far with Jack (two versions), Sally, The Mayor, Dr Finkelstein and Lock, Stock and Barrel.
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey
Incendium have announced two new figures in their Bill & Ted 5 inch figure line, with figures of Bill and Ted from the sequal Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. At present the figures are shown by way of a digital mock up with pre-orders being taken. There is no specified release date as yet.
This Weeks Action Figure Reviews...
About Me : As a child of the 70's and 80's I grew up in a golden age for action figures and in my youth bought and sold myself through collections of Star Wars, G.I. Joe (Action Force) and M.A.S.K. while also dabbling in He-Man, Transformers and Ghostbusters. Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licences - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who and the Aliens. I launched The Mephitsu Archives in 2015 with a view of creating a UK focused site or these figures where fans can pick up the latest action figure news, read reviews and get information on where to buy their figures and what is currently on store shelves. I hope I am delivering that to you guys...
