One of the biggest - or rather tallest - BAF figures to date in the Marvel Legends MCU line is that of Giant Man from Captain America Civil War. It was released in 2016 as a BAF getting a repack later in the same year in a "Best of the MCU" wave. The figure will be released again come the end of 2019 as a standalone boxed release.
You will need to collect all 6 pieces of Giant Man from either of the two waves in which he is packed. This is either the Captain America Civil War wave or the later Best of MCU wave. Unlike say Hulkbuster, there is no discernable paint difference between the two waves making pieces interchangeable if you wish.
There are no immediate issues in assembling Giant Man, but be warned his legs are the weak area and have a tendency to pop off at the thigh joint where they are connected into place.
The Best of the MCU wave is the harder of the two to find. While the Best of wave from 2015 had been very much UK and European based - this one featured more in the Far East and not in the West and included figures already highly sought after like Scarlet Witch and the new War Machine.
First things first, this Giant Man - while 10 inches tall (250mm) - is still not Giant enough in terms of matching the onscreen exploits of Scott Lang in Civil War. This was never going to happen in a BAF scale or even as a standalone release where the price point would have been too high for many. What we get is a figure that dwarf normal 6 inch figures enough to be a focal point.
The sculpt of the helmet is crisp and well executed, and with the larger scale we get more detail including translucent red lenses to the helmet with painted eyes and face underneath. The costume detail is simply painted in variations of red and grey with trims of silver and some blue panels painted here and there. The darker grey is not quite dark enough for me, especially when you line the BAF up against a standard Ant-Man figure.
We have no accessories for Giant Man, nor could we think of anything that would have been remotely possible to include along with such a large figure.
Despite his size, Giant Man is pretty agile with 19 points of articulation, the same as most male legends bucks in 6 inch scale.
Head : ball joint pivot neck
Body : T-joint ab crunch, waist rotation
Arms : ball jointed shoulders, bicep swivel, double jointed elbows, pivot wrists
Legs : ball jointed hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees, ankle rockers
Even in super size the figure can kneel as well as get into some pretty good fighting and action poses. It is just a shame he doesn't have a more open gripping/holding hand to grab hold of War Machine as we see in the Airport in Civil War.
The Giant Man BAF is a figure that ticks many boxes, and while he is quite small to what we see on screen he is probably at about the limit of height that Hasbro could released in the traditional BAF line.
The sculpt is good with paint fairly accurate, perhaps not quite as dark as it could be on the suit. With awesome articulation to boot this is a great centrepiece figure for a Civil War display, or even now in a larger Endgame battle scene.
I score the Giant Man BAF a solid 4 out of 5.
